Kashmiri Sikh Donates His Entire Month's Salary To Asifa's Family To Help Them

The Kathua rape case is taking a lot of turns except the most obvious one--punishing the guilty. The deafening silence of the governing bodies has led to an uproar in the nation uniting to fight for justice. While the celebrities and influential people have come down to the streets to raise their voice and have urged people on social media to fight for Asifa, little has been done for the victim's surviving family. Her family is still struggling to make their life liveable.

However, Harminder Pal Singh, a Kashmiri Sikh who resides in the Tral valley is setting an example of magnificent humanitarian duty. He is donating an entire month's salary to Asifa's family. In an interview with Kashmir Reader he explained his decision to do this. “It is my moral duty to help a nomadic family who has been made to suffer, and since I am blessed with a job and donation of one month salary would not make me suffer, Asifa was like my own daughter.”

He believes that Asifa is not the daughter of her parents but the daughter of the entire nation. He also believes that the government should take a cue from Pakistan in treating the criminals. “The culprit involved in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Zainab of Pakistan was hanged soon after the investigation was complete and same parameters must be followed here so that the family gets speedy justice.” While we progress as a society, let's not forget that no nation can sustain economically if the ethical walls are weak. The Kathua rape case is not just an eye opener, but a cry for help for us to stop barbaric acts. While shouting on social media is a great tool to raise awareness, but how about taking a cue from Mr. Singh and actually doing our bit to help the people who are facing the wrath of life all by themselves? Think about it.
