No, it’s not the Galaxy S7, and no it’s not the Galaxy Note 7 either. Waking up this morning browsing my news feed on Facebook, I came across a friend who posted a status about her phone catching fire and burning her bed. She detailed in her status that it was her Samsung J7 Prime, which was the culprit behind the fire, and it was caused due to a faulty charging port.

Just like every other claim regarding a phone catching fire, Annika Bhasker’s phone caught fire after she removed her phone from charging. After reaching out to Annika, she detailed, “the phone started heating up a month back but I thought it was normal. Yesterday I saw sparks come out of it. I thought I was hallucinating.”

According to Bhasker, she was sleeping while her phone was charging on her bed and explained that she woke up with her phone and her “bed being on fire.” Annika provided several photos of the aftermath and it seems like the phone completely devoured her bed due to a faulty charging port. According to Bhasker, the phone is still in working condition, however, the charging port is rendered useless and is apparently “toast”.

Earlier last year, several reports surrounding the Galaxy Note 7 catching fire forced the Korean company to stop the production of Galaxy Note 7 and was eventually forced to recall every Note 7 device globally. There is no word whether other J7 Prime users have faced a similar problem; however, it does seem like a one-off event.
We have reached out to Samsung for comment and still waiting for a reply. There is no word whether Samsung will replace Annika’s phone regardless of the purchase date or any additional information as to how Samsung will handle this situation.
