An Indian Model's Guide To Using Denim For Your Next Beach Holiday

Vitamin Sea should be accompanied by Vitamin D(enim).

For the rare instances when Goa plans actually materialize, one major hurdle that everyone faces but chooses not to discuss is 'what to wear to the beach'. Bollywood movies and fashion magazines can only be of so much help, and most of their pearls of wisdom are as outdated as an unfortunate pile of dried up oyster. Seriously, Hawaii shirts and ill-fitting baggy shorts in shocking colours? Those, my friend, need to go. It's time to update your beachwear, and the replacement is lying in your wardrobe right now. Meet Anand - an established model and our beachwear specialist, who has agreed to share his tried and tested inputs with us on how you can use your basic pair of jeans as super sophisticated, trendy beachwear.

Anand believes in the power of minimalism. He holds no biases against the ever-increasing supremacy of maximalism in fashion, but believes that beach certainly is not the place to indulge in that, unless of course, your only aim is a photoshoot. For someone who is going to the beach to catch a break (and it's safe to say that's literally everyone), the only goal should be to relax, and not get caught up in a frustrating bout of last minute shopping that usually anyway consists of a heap of unbridled kitsch, which later will be met with abject guilt and criticism once the vacay pictures are being edited for Instagram. So why even get involved in that? Anand's fix is simple, and it consists of your favourite pairs of jeans and half an hour of your time.

Follow these super simple steps to be beach-ready:

1. Get all your favourite pairs of jeans out and lay them down for inspection.

2. Discard the extremely baggy as well as the extremely skinny ones. Pick the ones that are well-fitting, yet allow you movement. You're going to run around, right?

3. We all have old pairs that we have decided to discard. Those, my friend, are your best friends for a beach vacation. Get them out. Take a pair of scissors, and get to altering the length. Stick to a length that ends just above the ankle for that super casual, yet playful vibe. Frayed ends are bae, and you can make the effect more prominent by pulling threads out.

4. In case you're feeling extremely adventurous and want to make them look wilder, be fearless and cut in knee rips. For those of you who know the art of ripping jeans, it should be a cakewalk.

Now, about what to pair them with. The safest bets are florals and printed t-shirts and shirts, in muted shades. You want to stand out? Go for the lime yellow or the candy orange - no judgements. Just make sure the fit is relaxed and the fabric moves when the wind hits you. You should feel like you're on a beach, shouldn't you? For those of you who have been working out, this is the time to reward yourselves and forget about it. Go flaunt those cuts. It's your time to shine.

Book those tickets already, because you are now ready to rock a beach vacation that is - in the words of Sofia Vergara and Katy Perry - 'easy, breezy, beautiful'.
