Life, as we know it today, is a constant hustle. We are perpetually chasing after the top scores, that next degree, upcoming placements, that promotion we have your eyes on, and then a bigger house, a better car, followed by an unceasing list of a bazillion other things. 

There's no one to blame here, it's human nature, and we happen to be alive and kicking in the 21st century.

This generation thrives on material abundance and the “likes” it would fetch them when it is put on display. We live our life like there is no tomorrow, without even sparing a thought to the fact that the tomorrow we take so much for granted, might not be a reality of our lives.

The story of Ali Banat, an Australian millionaire with a lavish lifestyle and all the luxuries in the world, who decided to give away all his wealth to those in need, is a lesson for our generation to hit the pause button, take a second look at the life we are leading and reconsider where we are headed in the larger picture of things.

You may not have heard of this name before, but he became an inspiration for an entire generation of men and women around the world. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Banat used to live in Greenacre in south-west Sydney and was known for living the good life.

He owned a successful security and electrical business and led a life that most of us can only aspire for. Life had been good until it struck him right in the gut. He was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage-four mouth cancer and the doctor gave him just another seven months to live.

However, his humble acceptance of his fate and the will to leave this world after having made an impact on people's lives, expanded his life by another three years. In the following months, post his diagnosis, Banat started to donate all of his prized possessions to people in need around the world.

Banat became famous when a video featuring him titled 'Gifted With Cancer' went viral on social media. In it, he speaks about how Cancer changed his perspective towards life and that he has finally come to see the meaning in every little thing that God has blessed us with.

It is evident that his plush life was filled with many valuable commodities, from limited edition Louis Vuitton hats and shoes, to expensive designer accessories and a Ferrari Spider worth Rs. 4,30,92,000!

Right after his diagnosis, Banat began to distribute all of his valuables amongst people in need. He said, “when you find out you're sick or you don't have much time to live, this is the last thing you want to chase. And that's how we should live our lives every day”.

He believes that on the day of judgement, none of the wealth you acquire shall matter, and what will remain is the good you did for others and the difference you made to people's lives.

This belief marked the inception of the charity foundation he set up called 'Muslims Of The World' which aims to build villages for widows, mosques, schools that will house orphans, medical centres, as well as businesses to support the local community.

The foundation has since earned donations worth over 1,041,438 dollars. He personally visited the African countries to ensure that 100 per cent of all the donations go to the projects the foundation takes up. 

Ever since, the foundation has helped numerous people across a number of countries including Togo, Ghana, and Burkina Faso.

Earlier this year on 30th May 2018, Ali Banat succumbed to his Cancer and left this world for the heavenly abode, but his words and actions have touched a million hearts and inspired a generation of people across the globe to carry his legacy forward.

People from all around the world have since come together to donate money to his foundation and the good work he started, to ensure that his legacy lives on forever.
