The opening ceremony of the Hockey World Cup was thrilling and ecstatic, thanks to King Khan. Shah Rukh Khan recreated his iconic '70 minute' speech from 'Chak De India' where he essayed the role of a hockey coach named Kabir Khan.

He also spoke about the importance of hockey for our nation and how we all need to be proud of it. “This is the most important tournament of the world. Because it is our sport, it is our hockey and there is no more special game than field hockey. And what sets it apart is that it is an amalgamation of a lot of emotions, thoughts and lots and lots of action. It involves guile, strength and stamina. It is a sport that involves artistry. Players are not mere players, they are artists”, he said.  Besides SRK, Madhuri Dixit and music legend AR Rahman also performed at the ceremony.
