There are so many people, way too many people in this world actually, who have more money than they can spend in like five lifetimes and this is something a lot of people are constantly talking about. People are critical of the fact that one single person shouldn't hoard so much wealth when there are people just struggling to survive.
But, sometimes rich people can also surprise us. Everyone knows about the tragic fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral and the catastrophe happening at such a huge historical site.
Just a few hours after tragedy struck, French billionaire François-Henri Pinault made an announcement pledging 100 million euros towards rebuilding the Notre Dame Cathedral. He is the chairman of international luxury group Kering, which owns brands like Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent and president of the French holding company Groupe Artémis, which owns the fine arts auction house Christie's.
He wrote in a statement, “My father [François Pinault] and I have decided to release as of now from the funds of Artemis a sum of 100 million euros to participate in the effort that will be necessary for the complete reconstruction of Notre Dame.”
This is a huge and very generous contribution that will help in the restoration of the centuries old Cathedral, but that's not it. On top of this, French President Emmanuel Macron has also announced that they plan to launch a nationwide fundraising campaign. He said, “We will rebuild. We will rebuild Notre Dame because this is what the French expect, because this is what our history deserves, because it is our destiny.”
