In 1931, France's football team defeated England for the very first time in an international game. Ecstatic with their maiden win over mighty England, the Frech players asked their counterparts if they could have their jerseys as keepsakes, and the Englishmen obliged.

While that game will always be monumental in France's ever-evolving football history, the jersey exchange between players after the match has gone on to become a gentlemanly ritual in the sport. In a show of mutual respect, the footballers, over the years, have been seen closely following the tradition.

Thus, it is understandable for footballers to boast of some iconic jerseys from their playing days. But, when you are the world's best footballer, you can have anyone's jersey you want. And, Messi's unreal jersey collection is a testimony to that.

The Barcelona talisman unveiled his incredible trove of dozens of football shirts (undoubtedly the best jersey collection in the world) from every corner of the globe. The Argentine took to social media and shared a photograph of his room full of football jerseys.

With Messi and his son Thiago sitting in the middle, the photo captures the room with around 70 jerseys spanning from floor to ceiling, with some laid out in the floor and above his head.

For anyone who loves watching the beautiful sport, Messi's magnificent collection of football shirts is a sight to behold. From old legends like Francesco Totti and Thierry Henry to current stars including Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez, the room is full of iconic jerseys that we can only dream about.

While the 29-year-old surely has one of the most sought-after jerseys in world football, there was one notable ommission - Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Barcelona's rivalry with Real Madrid, Messi is clearly happy to put the Los Blancos memorabilia on display. The shirts from both Iker Casillas and Raul are clearly visible in the picture, so where is Ronaldo's jersey?

Bizarrely, Messi's collection also includes an odd West Ham jersey that belonged to Manuel Lanzini who never actually played alongside Leo for Argentina. If that's not enough, there's even one shirt from Wigan Athletic flop, Mauro Boswell, who now plays for Leon.

And, yet there is no sign of Ronaldo's iconic No. 7 jersey.

However, unless there is one of Ronaldo's Real Madrid or Portugal shirts tucked away in the corner somewhere, it sure looks like either the Portuguese captain has never given Messi an item of clothing or the Argentine has never asked for one.

Whatever the reason, both footballers are actually good friends and are in no way sworn rivals or enemies. Right? RIGHT?
