Congress MLCs Forcefully Remove Dy Chairman From Chair In Karnataka & It’s A National Shame

Despite knowing how ‘dirty’ politics can be, how ugly things can get, it still comes as a shock (and disappointment) when we witness our chosen leaders acting like absolute hooligans in public view. Take for instance the latest incident at the Karnataka Legislative Council where Deputy Chairman S L Dharme Gowda was literally pulled down from the Chairman's seat by Congress MLCs.

Live footage from the assembly, which was adjourned sine die, has since gone viral on social media.

In their defence, Congress MLC Prakash Rathod said, “The BJP and JD(S) seated him on the Chair illegally when the House was not in order. It is unfortunate that the BJP is indulging in unconstitutional behaviour. The Congress first asked him (Deputy Chairman) to get down from the Chair after which we had to evict him as it was an illegal sitting.”

However, BJP leader S Prakash gave a different version and shared, “The Legislative Council is known as the House of Elders and responsible behaviour is expected from members across parties. Dirty politics have taken over the Council leading to the Chairman not resigning by himself after Congress lost majority to BJP and JD(S) coming together.”

We admit, India’s political scenario isn’t one of the things the country or its people can brag about. The political tiffs we often witness on national television arise from more than just ideological differences. The very fact that our political leaders, who are also the chosen representatives of the masses, choose to go to any lengths to serve their personal agendas over public welfare, speaks for itself.

Regardless of what both the parties had to say, it seems everybody is having a hard time coming to terms with what transpired in the House. Here’s what people are saying.

Congress is such a disgrace to the country. They lose elections and blame it on evm and public . No respect for any authority . Why this party is still allowed to conduct elections??

Either it's BJP or INC or anyone ,it's we as a citizens who are responsible of making mockery of democracy. Most of the MP/MLA are facing criminal charges , still they win, why? We need educated, respectable leaders, not such hooligans. It's time we abstain voting these people.
