The trailer of Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi starrer Shakeela has been unveiled and if you have seen the trailer of the movie, you have an idea that the film is about the story of the soft-porn Malayalam star Shakeela in the late 90s and early 2000s. Shakeela was forced to join the adult film industry after her father's death. After giving back-to-back hits, she was declared a superstar.

The trailer gives you the glimpses of the highs and lows of her life. Richa has completely transformed herself into Shakeela and Pankaj Tripathi has joined her in telling the story. Talking about the film, director Inderjit Lankesh said, "Shakeela is truly a labor of love and commitment to show Shakeela’s story is iconic in so many ways. Her story is almost folklore today, but the truth is that so much happened to her while she soared to success from nothing and then came back to nothing again. I’m happy that our producers are releasing the film so widely, giving me the confidence to know that it’s a film that will appeal to the larger masses. To release in so many languages was important because that was the power of Shakeela."

Here’s the trailer:

In the statement shared to the press, Pankaj Tripathi said, “I am thrilled that our little labour of love Shakeela is all set to release in theatres this Christmas. I am so excited about the film because I have worked with the very talented friend Richa Chadha in this film."

Despite Pankaj being a part of the movie, people are unhappy after seeing the trailer as they think Richa can’t ever match the level of Vidya Balan’s charm and they also termed it as a cheap version of The Dirty Picture.
