Androids Co-Founder Unveiled The Essential Smartphone And It Looks To Challenge Apple andamp Samsung

Android co-founder Andy Rubin has finally unveiled his smartphone that has an edge-to-edge display and has Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. Rubin is claiming that the smartphone has “one of the world’s best phone cameras” which may just challenge the iPhone 7 Plus, Galaxy S8 and the Google Pixel.

Unlike other smartphones, the 'Essential' phone is made up of titanium, instead of aluminium which may aid in preventing drop damage. The smartphone also has a ceramic back which we have seen earlier on the Mi6 and other smartphones.

The Essential is modular like the LG G5 and Moto Z Force Droid and can be fitted with a 360-degree camera as an accessory. The add-on camera clips to the rear of the phone and has a dual 12-megapixel fisheye lens.

The smartphone’s primary camera has a dual-camera system which has a 13-megapixel sensor and is capable of taking incredible low-light images.

The front-facing camera of the Essential phone has an 8-megapixel sensor and has an aspect ratio of 16:9. It has a 3,040 mAh battery capacity and 128GB of internal storage.

The smartphone does not have a headphone jack and has a USB Type-C port which might be used for audio purposes. The smartphone might ship with a headphone dongle, right out of the box.

The smartphone is slated to launch in the United States first and will subsequently follow with a global launch. The phone will retail for $699 (INR 45,000) and will be available in four colours i.e. black, grey, white and green. Rubin, in an interview, stated that the Essential phone will be the ‘iPhone killer’ and will challenge companies like Apple, Samsung and Google.

We sure hope so.
