Sometime back, the state government of Kerala appointed 23 trans employees at Kochi Metro and, in doing so, made a huge step towards a more inclusive society. The stigma towards them is immense and it has ruined many lives. Change is happening gradually but there’s a lack of acceptance at a very deep level.

Really, there’s nothing wrong with them and they deserve as much respect as you or I. We as a society have to get rid of our deep-rooted prejudices and discriminatory behavior that are often habit-based.

The State will do as much as it can to reinstate them into mainstream culture but it’s the general public that has to be sensitized into acceptance. The 23 trans employees of Kochi Metro have come up with a video with a message for all of us. And it’s time we listen.
