Battleground Mobile India Found Sending Data To Servers In China & It Could Be In Trouble

Battlegrounds Mobile India released an early beta version of the game on Google Play and TapTap last week and it saw over 5 million downloads from India.  However, in the latest bombshell, the game has been found sending data to servers in China, according to a report by IGN India. The outlet was tipped by its readers on condition of anonymity, saying that the Battlegrounds Mobile India app was sending and receiving data from China Mobile Communications servers in Beijing, China.

The game was also found sending data to Tencent-run Proxima Beta in Hong Kong and Microsoft Azure servers located in the US, Mumbai and Moscow. IGN India was able to reproduce the results by installing a data packet sniffer and saw that data was being sent to a server with the IP address 36.152.4.34. A simple whois search came with the aforementioned result suggesting that the game still has ties with China and Tencent, even though Krafton has denied any involvement earlier.

Other tests revealed that the game was sending data to http://astat.bugly.qcloud.com(Qcloud,china) and http://down.anticheatexpert.com(links to Tencent china)

It is worthy to point out that PUBG Mobile, its predecessor was banned in India for violating India’s national security and the privacy of its citizens. The game was banned alongside 117 other apps originating from China due to border tensions with the neighbouring country last year.

Krafton has now re-released the game under a new name and claims to have cut ties with Tencent. However, this report by IGN India suggests that Krafton may have not fully cut ties with the Chinese company.

It is worthy to point out that Tencent does own 15.5% per cent of Krafton’s shares. Battlegrounds Mobile India has already garnered the action of Indian politicians, as many have already called for a ban of the app.

It seems like now they may have a valid reason as Battlegrounds Mobile India could be banned in India on the same grounds as PUBG Mobile last year.
