After much delay due to Covid-19, Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivii finally got a theatrical release on September 10, 2021. 

It was soon released on the biggest streaming platforms, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video a month after it hit the big screen. 

The OTT release gave the global audience a chance to watch the film from their homes.

Thalaivii is a biopic of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa, played by Kangana. 

Just a few days after it started streaming on Netflix, the film made it to the top trending list in a lot of countries while it stood at number one in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Kangana announced this via a social media post. 

She shared a screenshot of ‘Netflix Top 10 in Pakistan on October 10, 2021’ where Thalaivii was at the number one spot. 

She wrote, “Thalaivi is trending on top in many countries, including Pakistan...Art has no barriers..With love from India.” 

However, in the next story, she jokingly took a dig at Pakistani fans calling them a ‘traitor’ for watching the movie.

She wrote for her fans across the border, “On a lighter note jaan ke tasalli hue deshadrohi sirf isi desh me nahi hain (relieved to know that traitors are not in just our country).”

Thaliavii is trending worldwide where it stands at top 10 in nine countries, top 3 in six countries and number one in three countries. 

It is based on the life of Jayalaithaa, who was a Bollywood actress and later became a prominent figure in Indian politics.

While it’s great that the film is getting worldwide recognition and popularity, calling the fans across the border 'traitors' for making her film number one, while saying art has no barrier, is kind of ironic. Isn’t it?  

But then, that’s Kangana for you!
