PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday alleged that the purpose of the Panama Papers probe was to hurt the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The politician implored that the public should try to discern what the Panama matter was actually affecting, implying that the probe was negatively affecting the CPEC project.

While addressing an Eid lunch hosted at the JUI-F Secretariat in Peshawar, Rehman rubbished the probe, referring to it as "a useless request that has become a huge deal."

The politico-religious leader questioned the purpose of probing into the premier's assets, stating that the prime minister had not established his business empire recently .

"Anyone who defies the Panama Papers probe today is called corrupt," Rehman claimed.

He added that the Panama Papers aimed to create instability in the country than its purported objective of eradicating corruption or penalising the premier.
