RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Wednesday that the One Belt One Road (OBOR) project would open a world of new opportunities and said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the most important part of this plan.

The army chief was addressing a gathering on CPEC logistics which was attended by ambassadors, civil and military officers.

Gen Bajwa said that the project would bring an economic revolution for the economies of both Pakistan and western China.

The COAS said that the Army would fully guard the CPEC plan, adding that national institutions would also have to play their part.

The CPEC is duly considered to be a game changer, said Gen Bajwa.

?Pak-China relationship is based on the principles of peaceful co-existence, commonality of interest and shared perception on regional and global issues. We have always stood by each other through thick and thin and at every critical juncture of our history,? the COAS said, according to an ISPR release.

CPEC is a collection of projects currently under construction at a cost of more than $50 billion. The major portion will be spent for enhancing energy capacity of the country and almost $12 billion on infrastructure-related projects.

CPEC-related construction work has been expedited after ships carrying construction material arrived in Gwadar at the end of October 2016.
