    Ever since it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan has been roped in by Yash Raj Films for an espionage thriller titled Pathaan, it was further reported that the movie will be a part of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe.  
    A few days back, Pathaan was announced with a special video featuring Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham & Deepika Padukone. And now, it’s time for the OG spy of this cinematic universe, Tiger aka Salman Khan! 
    YRF released the announcement video that features Katrina Kaif practising action choreography while we see Bhai sleeping with his face covered with the iconic scarf from Tiger films.

    She then wakes him up and says, “Your turn”. Bhai then gets up and in his inimitable style and says in a deep voice, “Tiger always ready”.  

    Sharing the announcement video, Salman Khan tweeted, “Hum sab apna apna khayal rakhen.. Tiger3  on 2023 Eid… let’s all be there ..Releasing in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Celebrate #Tiger3 with #YRF50 only at a big screen near you on 21st April 2023.”

    Directed by Manish Sharma, Tiger 3 will release on April 21, 2023, during Eid.  
    Interestingly, before Tiger 3, Salman Khan will make an appearance in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan.

    Anushka Sharma joined her husband Virat Kohli on the pitch on Friday in Mohali, Punjab, for his 100th international Test cricket match. Their daughter Vamika, Virat's mother, and Virat's brother were in the stands as veteran cricketer Rahul Dravid presented him with a ceremonial cap.
    Dressed in a white ruffled top and beige leggings, Sharma was standing next to the former Indian skipper Virat handed out the ceremonial cap to Anushka after receiving it from Rahul Dravid, saying, "Ye le jao please (please take this with you)."

    It did not take long for the so-called Indian cricket fans to start questioning Anushka’s presence on the cricket ground during Kohli’s ceremony. The popular question was about why was she there in the middle of the ground and how did she contribute to Indian cricket in order to get the privilege of being seen during an international Test match.

    In her upcoming film, Chakda Xpress, Anushka will play the role of a cricketer. The film will follow Jhulan Goswami, the former captain of India's national women's cricket team, as she rises through the ranks amid oppressive politics, to realise her ambition of playing cricket for India.
    As far as the Virat Kohli is concerned, the cricketer is expected to deliver a big innings in the longest format of the game soon, especially considering the fact that the last century he struck came over two years ago in November 2019 when India was hosting their first-ever pink-ball Test in Kolkata against Bangladesh.

    India captain Rohit Sharma began his Test career as a skipper by winning the toss in the first match of the two-game series against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Friday (March 4).  
    Rohit decided to play three spinners and two pacers along with six batters, including Rishabh Pant (who will don the wicket-keeper's hat).  
    India had dropped Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara for this series and it opened the door for the youngsters to come into the Test side. 
    Rohit and team management picked Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari as replacements for the two veteran batters.

    Team India had two more options in Priyank Panchal and Shubman Gill but decided to go with Vihari and Iyer for the Test series opener.  
    This decision did not go well with fans who felt Gill, who had missed out a couple of series due to injury, should have got the nod ahead of Iyer. 
    Upset with team management's decision to bench Gill at his home ground, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. Many felt that he should have been ahead of Iyer in the pecking order as he was out of the team due to injury and not poor form.

    Gill had done well in overseas conditions, scoring runs in Australia including the match-winning knock in Brisbane that helped India win the Border-Gavaskar trophy last year.  
    However, in the limited chances he got in India in the longest format of the game, Gill failed to make it count and his lack of runs on home soil might have played against him in the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka.

    Gill, 22, has shown glimpses of what he can do and is considered to be a technically sound batter. It is important for the team management to back the youngster and if he is not in the reckoning, they should give him game time by allowing him to play Ranji Trophy.

    As Virat Kohli became the 12th Indian cricketer to play at least 100 Tests, he was presented with a special cap by the head coach Rahul Dravid before the start of the match. 
    The felicitation ceremony took place in the presence of all his teammates, with his wife Anushka Sharma also standing next to him.

    Dravid, the second most capped Indian in Test cricket, knew how humongous this occasion was for Kohli and he made it even more special by delivering a brilliant speech that was brimming with emotions.

    The 49-year-old lavished praise on the former India captain using all sorts of adjectives which truly define Kohli’s love for the sport and all his achievements.

    Not just Kohli, it was a momentous occasion for his family members as well, without whom he wouldn’t have been able to make it this big in international cricket.

    Overwhelmed by his kind words, Kohli said it was a “special moment” for him as his wife and brother were there in the stands to witness his 100th Test. He even thanked the BCCI for opening the stands for the spectators and making the match even more memorable.

    “It is a special moment for me. My wife is here and so is my brother. Everyone is very proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn't have been possible without you. Thanks to the BCCI as well,” Kohli said after receiving the cap. 
    Only a select few cricketers have been able to play at least 100 Tests and this list is going to be even narrow in the days to come. Kohli’s achievement is special because he has managed to reach this milestone while playing all three formats and the IPL.

    Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's Fukrey, featuring Pulkit Samrat, Richa Chaddha, Ali Fazal, Varun Sharma, and Manjot Singh in central characters, was released in 2013. After a poor opening, the film witnessed a jump in collections with each passing day and turned out to be a sleeper hit. Later, in 2017, its sequel, Fukrey Returns, came out and became a huge hit by crossing the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. Since then, moviegoers have been waiting for its third part, and here comes great news for them.

    Ye thi good news. Sadly, it's time for a disappointing update. Looks like Ali Fazal aka Zafar Bhai won't be a part of Fukrey 3. Reportedly, the actor has opted out of the much-awaited sequel due to his packed schedule. He is currently busy with Vishal Bhardwaj's Khufiya and had no option to let go of the third installment of Fukrey.

    Revealing the same, a source informed Mid-Day, "Ali was busy till early February with the shoot of Kandahar, and promotions of Death on the Nile. Keeping his commitments in mind, Vishal sir lined up Khufiya for February".

    The source added, "Meanwhile, Mrighdeep got the combination dates of Richa, Pankaj Tripathi, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat, and Manjot Singh, and is eager to roll Fukrey 3. It’s an unfortunate turn of events, but Ali won’t be a part of it as he is busy with the thriller till March-end".
    Interestingly, Ali will not be replaced with another actor and the makers will tweak the plot to justify his absence in the film.

    There is a particular sequence that lasts for a few minutes in one of the first three episodes of Rudra: The Edge of Darkness, where Ajay Devgn’s character DCP Rudraveer Singh is just sitting casually with a carefree attitude while a serial killer’s histrionics are on full display. 
    At that moment, you realise only an actor of Ajay Devgn’s stature could’ve pulled that scene off. In that whole sequence where minimalism is key, any lesser actor would’ve tried to upstage the other actor playing the serial killer. It’s Ajay's understated performance that elevates Rudra to new heights. 
    Based on the popular British show Luther starring Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson, Rudra: The Edge of Darkness is about brilliant supercop Rudraveer Singh (Ajay Devgn) who is going through a tough time in his marriage with Shail (Esha Deol) and is notorious for taking the law into his hands to catch killers.

    Once a psychopathic killer Aliyah (Raashii Khanna) slips through his hands and he reluctantly forms a unique bond with her and even seeks her help whenever he is stuck in his investigation. 

    We go on this journey with Rudra as he tries to nab serial killers while dealing with his troubled personal life, one episode at a time. 
    Director Rajesh Mapuskar, who helmed the feel-good movie Ferrari Ki Sawaari in 2012 and a comedy-drama in Ventilator in 2016, changes gear here and helms a gripping thriller quite skillfully. I loved how he gave the show an almost neo-noir-ish treatment. 
    While I am not really a fan of episodic treatment of the narrative in shows, it works here. 
    I believe if you are adapting an already brilliant show or a movie, the best way to do it is to follow it to a T. As they say, why fix something if it isn’t broken? Rudra is more or less a faithful remake of Luther and that is a good thing. 
    The cinematography and the way Mumbai city has been shot add to the thrill and gloom element of the show. The editing is quite good as well. The episodes are around an hour long each but due to their taut screenplay, they flow smoothly.

    Coming to the performances, as mentioned, Ajay Devgn delivers a knock-out performance. There is another scene where subtlety works in the favour. When Rudra’s wife tells him about seeing another guy, Ajay doesn’t emote much and yet you feel the pain and shock he is going through. 

    While Idris Elba’s portrayal was a bit flamboyant in the original, Ajay Devgn takes it easy & makes it work.
    Raashii Khanna, who was last seen in a brief role in Madras Cafe in 2013 is a revelation here. Her character is such that she could’ve easily gone overboard with it but thankfully, that didn’t happen. Some of the best scenes in the show are between Rudra & Aliyah and their chemistry is like a house on fire. 
    Atul Kulkarni is always good at almost anything he does. He plays Gautam, Rudra’s colleague and close friend. Can’t wait to see how his character shapes up in future episodes. Ashwini Kalsekar as Rudra’s boss provides able support. 
    Tarun Gahlot as Rudra’s partner is another good performer and has quite a good screen presence. Among the actors playing serial killers, KC Shankar stands out. 
    On the downside, if you have watched Luther, there is not much in the Hindi remake that may interest you, besides the presence of Ajay Devgn, of course. At least going by the first three episodes.
