Shakun Batra’s Gehraiyaan starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Pandey and Dhairya Karwa may have received a mixed response from critics and audiences but if there is one aspect of the film that received unanimous praise then it is Naseeruddin Shah’s character and the scenes featuring him.

In the film, he plays the character of Deepika Padukone’s estranged father. The two shared a troubled relationship because of something that happened in their past.

While Naseeruddin Shah’s character has turned out to be the MVP of Geharaiyaan, this isn’t the first time he has played such a character on-screen.

In fact, Naseeruddin Shah has a history of playing characters that share troublesome equations with their kids.
Before Gehraiyaan, here are 5 other films where Naseeruddin Shah played an estranged father and nailed it:
    1. Chamatkar (1992)  © Red Chillies Entertainment
In this 1992 fantasy comedy, Naseeruddin Shah played a gangster who tries to mend his way but is betrayed by his subordinate and killed.
He returns as a ghost and befriends Shah Rukh Khan’s innocent village lad to avenge his death and get closer to his estranged daughter played by Urmila Matondkar.
    2. Naajayaz (1995)  © Vishesh Films
In this Mahesh Bhatt directorial, Naseeruddin Shah once again played a gangster who is at loggerheads with a police officer (Ajay Devgn) determined to take him down. As the narrative progresses, Naseer’s character realises he is an estranged father to the cop.

    3. Main Hoon Na (2004)   © Red Chillies Entertainment
In Farah Khan’s directorial debut, Naseeruddin Shah had a guest appearance as Shah Rukh Khan and Zayed Khan’s father. While his character is killed in the beginning, on his deathbed he informs his elder son Ram (SRK) about his estranged son Lakshman (Zayed Khan).

    4. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)  © Excel Entertainment
Perhaps the most popular estranged father character played by Naseeruddin Shah. In the film, he appears only briefly but leaves a lasting impact.

Farhan Akhtar’s character has another motivation for taking a trip to Spain with his friend i.e to reconcile with his estranged father played by Naseeruddin Shah. The two, eventually, meet for a brief scene that changes Farhan’s character’s life forever.
    5. Kaun Banegi Shikharwati (2021)  © Zee5
In this Zee5 web series, Naseeruddin Shah plays a former king who shares a troubled relationship with his estranged daughters played by Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra and Anya Singh.

After the pictures of his Hindu wedding invite got leaked online, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that it has given him an extra headache in the last couple of days.
The RCB all-rounder said it was supposed to be a private event in the presence of 350 closest friends and family members but now that the details of the week-long event have made it on the internet he will have to beef up the security arrangements even further to ensure that all the functions go on smoothly without any issues.

“It was not ideal. We've got to get extra security for the wedding now,” Maxwell told cricket.com.au after Australia clinched the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
The reason why Maxwell's marriage is hogging so much limelight in India is because of her fiancee Vini Raman, who is an Australian citizen of Indian descent.

But more than their marriage, which is set to take place in Melbourne on March 27, it’s their wedding invite, printed in Tamil, that has created a lot of buzz on different social networking sites after it got leaked online.
Maxwell said that the matter was brought to his notice by a former RCB teammate who informed him that his Tamil wedding card was doing rounds on the social media and how much buzz it has created online.

Describing the online leak of their wedding invite as “unfortunate”, Maxwell said that their Indian relatives perhaps got a “little bit excited” and circulated the card among their friends, in order to show off, and it eventually ended up in every major newspaper in the country.
“It was supposed to be a private event and unfortunately the relatives over in India just got a little bit excited and decided to show a few friends."

“Next minute, it's in pretty much every paper over there and I'm getting tweeted it by pretty much everyone. So that was a shock. It's been a busy couple of days,” Maxwell added.
Maxwell and Vini, who is a pharmacist in Melbourne, had been in a relationship for quite a few years and they got engaged a couple of years ago but had to push back their marriage due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 33-year-old power-hitter is set to miss Australia’s upcoming historic tour of Pakistan due to his marriage. There is also a high likelihood of him missing a few matches in this year’s IPL.

The schedule for the cash-rich league is yet to be announced but the tournament is likely to begin in the last week of March and it might overlap with his wedding.

After a long wait, the makers of Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur-starrer Jersey finally announced the new release date. The film, which was earlier scheduled to hit the big screens on December 31 last year, will now release on April 14, during the Baisakhi weekend. Also, it'll be clashing with the much-hyped pan-India release KGF 2. While the Udta Punjab actor's fans are happy with the new date, others think that the clash might affect the business.
    View this post on Instagram
Now, Jersey producer Aman Gill has opened up about the film’s new release date and clash with KGF 2. While talking to Bollywood Hungama, Gill said, "Previously, Laal Singh Chaddha and KGF 2 were supposed to come in cinemas on this date. Now, with the Aamir Khan-starrer shifting, Jersey has moved into the slot of Laal Singh Chaddha. It’s a four-day holiday - Thursday and Friday are both holidays. So, it’s one of the biggest weekends of the year. Hence, it could easily accommodate two big films, especially of two different genres. Ours is a family film while the other one is an actioner. So, both the films will cater to two different types of audiences".

Further talking about the box office clash, he added, "There’s no competition between the two films. It’s not like we are trying to compete with KGF 2. In no way, any one of the producers is trying to brag that they are bigger than the producer of the other film".

For the unversed, Jersey was the first film to get pushed ahead post the failure of Ranveer Singh-starrer 83 amid the coronavirus third wave and Omicron scare. Also starring Pankaj Kapur in an important role, the much-awaited film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Shahid's Jersey is the official Hindi remake of the Nani-starrer hit Telugu film with the same name. Interestingly, the Telugu film (April 19, 2019) too was released the same week as the remake.

A few days back Shark Tank India's Peyush Bansal had made an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show along with fellow "Sharks" Ashneer Grover, Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta, Ghazal Alagh, Vineeta Singh & Namita Thapar.
Later, in an interview he had talked about how before going to the popular show, he used to feel that Kapil Sharma isn't funny anymore.

However, his opinion changed completely after he found himself in splits as Kapil cracked jokes.

Something similar happened with Gehraiyaan director Shakun Batra.
He recently appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast where he talked about his experience of visiting The Kapil Sharma Show.
He said that before appearing on the show, he was told that Kapil Sharma's humour is "lowbrow".
But, he was pleasantly surprised after filming for the episode and Kapil "healed" him with his humour.
    © Sony TV
He said, “Honestly, I hadn’t really followed the whole show. I’d heard it was funny, and people were like, ‘It’s lowbrow’ and whatever. But I didn’t care. I had been shooting for the last year-and-a-half, and I had all this weight. I had just delivered the film four days ago and the next day, I was still waking up with the weight of the film. I went there with no expectation and there, I started to just laugh and laugh more. By the end, I realised I had forgotten about my film.”

He continued, “When I left (the show) I thought, dude, I would pay to be in the audience to just watch this. When I went home, I slept and I woke up at 10 in the morning, which had not happened for two years. I had been waking up at 6.30-7 with the whole anxiety of making a film. I think in some way, he healed me that night with his humour. I genuinely don't know how funny it would be when it comes out but I just tuned in.”

As for his film Gehraiyaan, the film released to polarised response. MensXP in its review of the film called it “part interesting and part meh”.
