Suresh Raina failed to attract any bid during the two-day long Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.
The fact that not even Chennai Super Kings (CSK) placed a bid for the southpaw despite having enough funds in their purse came as a shock to many.
CSK's CEO clarified that Raina was not picked because he doesn't fit in the current scheme of things of the team.
However, former New Zealand bowler and renowned cricket commentator Simon Doull feels it was the turn of events that unfolded during IPL 2020 that played a pivotal role in the out-casting of Mr IPL from CSK's squad.
Not many CSK fans must have expected that coming after Suresh Raina's statement in the previous season #IPLAuction #IPLAuction2022 pic.twitter.com/svzawdaXJM
    — CricTracker (@Cricketracker) February 15, 2022 During the 13th edition of IPL, media reports emerged that Raina was unhappy with his hotel room and he decided to fly back home from Dubai. While some reports also suggested that Raina decided to fly back after his uncle was murdered in Punjab's Pathankot, a comment from CSK boss N Srinivasnan again shifted focus to the alleged rift between CSK management and Raina.
"The season has not begun yet and Raina will certainly realise what he is missing and certainly all the money (a salary of 11 crores per season) he is going to lose," Srinivasan was quoted as saying by Outlook back in September 2020.
Two years later when Raina went unsold at the IPL auction, Simon Doull said that after the events of 2020 IPL, Raina lost the loyalty of the team and the loyalty of their skipper MS Dhoni and once his rapport with the captain took a hit, there was no coming back for CSK's 'Chinna Thala'.
    Four titles
    Most catches
    Fourth-highest run-scorer
    CSK's all-time leading run-scorer
    CSK's top-scorer in the 2010 title-winning season
    Second-most runs in CSK's 2011 title-winning season

    — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) February 15, 2022 “There are two to three parts to it. He lost his loyalty in the UAE, we don't need to go on (and talk about) why it was. There's enough speculation about that. He lost the loyalty of the team and he lost the loyalty of MS Dhoni. Once you do that, you're very unlikely to be welcomed back,” Doull said on Cricbuzz.
Raina shared a great camaraderie with Dhoni. They had shared a dressing room at CSK for over a decade and were best of friends from their India playing days.

The duo even shared their retirement from international cricket on the same day. After Dhoni posted on social media that he has decided to hang his boots, minutes later, Raina too decided to call it a day.

Raina doesn't play any other competitive cricket and his absence from IPL 2022 is likely an indicator that we may never see Mr IPL light up the tournament with his explosive batting and electrifying fielding in the franchise-based tournament.

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra will be donning the hat of a head coach for the first time in his career as he looks to guide Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League title in their debut season.
Nehra was roped in by the Gujarat-based franchise as their coach while they appointed all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their skipper for the upcoming season of the T20 league.
Hardik's appointment as captain of the side was a bit of a surprise considering he was struggling on and off the field. Hardik did perform according to his potential in the T20 World Cup last year and struggled with a back injury for most part of last season.

The CVC Group, owner of Gujarat-based IPL franchise, showed faith in the all-rounder despite his struggles with injuries and fitness.
The big question everyone had in their mind was will we see Hardik bowling in the 15th edition of the IPL? The all-rounder answered the query by saying it will be a surprise and fans have to wait till the start of the IPL.
Nehra, however, is not too bothered about Hardik's bowling fitness as he feels the 28-year-old can fit into any T20 team just as a pure batter.
Head Coach Ashish Nehra shares his vote of confidence for our Captain! શું વાત છે! #GujaratTitans pic.twitter.com/97EaPX6HUJ
    — Gujarat Titans (@gujarat_titans) February 16, 2022
"If he bowls, it's great. But to be very honest, we are more than happy to have Hardik Pandya as a pure batsman. I don't see any T20 team in the world, not taking just about the IPL, where Hardik doesn't fit as a batsman. Whatever number he bats, be it 4 or 5 or 6," Nehra was quoted as saying by India Today.
Hardik was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15 crores as the first draft pick ahead of the mega auction. Nehra was doing what any head coach of a team would have done, praising his skipper. But fans did not agree with the former India pacer and called him out for giving ‘hard-to-believe’ statements.
If that was the case, shouldn't he be playing for India today? https://t.co/ngT2b3mLJ7

    — Rupesh Kumar (@iRUPACE) February 16, 2022It will be interesting to see how Hardik fares in the upcoming edition of the IPL as it will give us a clear idea whether he will be considered for the next T20 World Cup, slated to be held in October-November in Australia, or not.

You know when Mukesh Ambani gets associated with something, it has to be spectacular. Well, earlier this year the business tycoon became a proper hotelier and bought a stake at the Mandarin Oriental, New York.

Well, after it underwent some remodelling and some minor tweaks, the place can only be described as palatial.

    © Mandarin Oriental, New York
Apparently, a few months ago, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries bought out the majority stake at the hotel for USD 98 Million, and also took on a debt of over USD 115 Million. All in all, the deal cost Reliance about USD 215 Million.

Now, Mandarin Oriental is one of New York’s poshest hotels and is often frequented by the who’s who of the city. Naturally, the hotel has to offer anything and everything that upper-class New York dares to demand.

It has a massive sports/gym centre which has an indoor heated pool and one of the highest-rated spas in all of New York City.

    View this post on Instagram
It also has one of the best restaurants in New York, which, given that New York has an awesome dining scene, is saying something.

Now, you would imagine that a stay at such a property would cost you an arm and a leg. Well, you wouldn't be wrong, but you'll certainly underestimate just how expensive the rooms can get.
A basic “deluxe” room, which the folks at Oriental Mandarin, New York, call the ‘Hudson View Room,’ has a basic tariff of Rs 65,000. On top of that, there’s VAT, a few other charges, some taxes and you’re looking at a cool Rs 80,000 a night.
    View this post on Instagram
Mind you, this does not include any meals with it. A quiet dinner for two along with a few drinks will set you back by at least another Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000.

Yup, a basic “deluxe” room sets you back by Rs 80,000 a night.

Now, imagine how big a dent would renting out a suite at this place make in your bank accounts.
Their most expensive option, Suite 5000, starts at Rs 27 Lakhs plus taxes for a night. From there, your bill can go as high as the sky if you go for add-on options such as an in-suite chef, an additional bedroom, or a personal butler.
The suite itself is spread over 3300 square feet, which, in fact, is larger than most apartments in New York City.

Given just how busy the 5-star property is throughout the year, they must be minting some serious money.

Gone are the days when cricket used to be a gentleman's game. Irrespective of their nationality, players these days don’t shy away from sledging their opponents even one bit.
They like to be in the face of the opposition all the time, which makes for an exciting watch for fans all around the world.
    View this post on Instagram
But sometimes players get too carried away in the heat of the moment and let everybody down through their on-field behaviours.
There is a very thin line between aggression and arrogance and we expect players to honour that every time they step onto the field.
    © Twitter CPL
See I’m not saying players are not allowed to make mistakes. No boddy in this world is perfect. We all make mistakes. This is what makes us human. But the problem starts when people stop learning from their mistakes.

    View this post on Instagram
The point is everything looks good only up to a certain limit. This excessive aggression not just hampers their own image but also maligns the whole sport by portraying it in a bad light.
The latest example was the incident involving Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting and Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanvir during a Pakistan Super League game between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
Both the seasoned campaigners have a long history against each other and on Tuesday night they once again reignited their nearly four-year-old rivalry that began during the 2018 Caribbean Premier League.

During the match, the Peshawar Zalmi all-rounder smashed Tanvir for four maximums in an over and celebrated by giving the pacer double middle-finger salute.
    View this post on Instagram
Tanvir had the last laugh as it was his catch on the first ball of the final over of the innings that brought his blistering cameo of 37 runs off just 14 balls to an end. As Cutting began marching back to the pavilion, Tanvir treated him with a double middle-finger salute.
How did it begin?Cutting hit a few sixes against Tanvir in 2018 CPL then Tanvir got the wicket of Cutting, he celebrated by showing the middle finger - In 2022 PSL, Cutting hit a few sixes against Tanvir and he showed middle finger later Tanvir caught Cutting and he showed middle finger again. pic.twitter.com/4GhjSbJ1YS
    — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) February 15, 2022
Their rivalry began during the 2018 CPL when Tanvir and Cutting came face to face against each other while playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots respectively.
In that match, Tanvir had shown the Australian middle-fingers with both hands after taking his wicket through a toe-crushing yorker. This reaction was a result of what had happened earlier in the game. Cutting had smacked a six and Tanvir couldn’t digest that.

Since they are considered to be role models, it’s their duty to set the right examples for the young kids who idolise them and aspire to become like them.
Tanvir and Cutting were so high on their ego trip that they perhaps didn’t realise that the whole world was watching them. What’s worse was that it wasn’t a one-off incident.

Advait Chandan's Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles, is one of the most-hyped films of 2022. Ever since its announcement, the movie has been making headlines and fans are eagerly waiting for its release. Earlier slated to hit the theatres on April 14, Laal Singh Chaddha will now release on August 11.

Also, the film has been making buzz as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were supposed to do cameos in Laal Singh Chaddha. However, the latest rumours suggest that Salman is no longer a part of it.

Reportedly, Salman's part has been chopped off from Laal Singh Chaddha. Revealing the same, a source informed Bollywood Hungama, "Aamir had reserved a special part for Salman in Laal Singh Chaddha, however, with the date of release nearing, he has decided to chop that off completely. While multiple attempts were made to shoot the cameo, the dates of Salman couldn’t match. So, he is no longer a part of Laal Singh Chaddha".

Well, SRK is still a part of Laal Singh Chaddha and will make an appearance as Raj from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge days. Talking about Shah Rukh Khan's cameo, the source added, "Shah Rukh has already shot for his appearance in Laal Singh Chaddha. The shoot was done in early 2020, right before the pandemic in Delhi. In fact, it was Aamir Khan himself who directed SRK in his cameo appearance".

Bappi Lahiri, an icon of Indian music passed away on Tuesday night after succumbing to a sleep-related breathing disorder.
The veteran composer had a career that spanned a length of 50 years, influencing millions around the world. His contribution to Bollywood’s disco era with the use of heavy synthesis and memorable hooks led to international artists looking to him for inspiration.

One such artist who may have borrowed a little too much from Bappi da for his comfort is none other than Hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre - who is also the founder of the famous Beats by Dre headphones - who ended up being sued by the Indian music legend for copying his song 'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' which was later remixed as 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman'.

    © Dr. Dre
‘Thoda Resham Lagta Hai’ was a song composed by Bappi Lahiri for the 1981 film Jyoti, which ended up fading from relevance for a while before American producer DJ Quik sampled it for the Truth Hurts song ‘Addictive’ in 2002.

The lyrics were written by Steve "Static Major" Garrett wrote the song's lyrics, while Dr Dre was the Executive Producer. For Quik it had just been an instrumental track he’d overheard on TV one morning, however, the tune turned out to be  'Thoda Resham Lagta Hai' by Lata Mangeshkar, and their team’s failure to clear the rights to the song ended up making them open to a lawsuit.

Sargema had filed a massive $500 million lawsuit against Aftermath and Universal Music Group on September 12, 2002, further requesting the team of ‘Addictive’ to cease all performances and broadcasts of the song.
This legal dispute was eventually settled in 2003 after Bappi Lahiri won the lawsuit against hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, and riding the song’s newfound popularity, it was remixed by Indian composer Harry Anand as 'Kaliyon Ka Chaman', with Assamese singer Shaswati Phukan lending her song for the record.

Bappi da is survived by his wife Chitrani, daughter Reema, who is also a singer, and son Bappa Lahiri, who has a successful career as a music composer.

Team India arrived in Kolkata ahead of the three-match T20I series against the West Indies, starting Wednesday (February 16).
The team sweated it out on the field as they geared up for the challenge after clean sweeping the visitors in the ODI format. The team has been in a bio-secure bubble to curb the possibility of a Covid outbreak.
The Indian camp was hit by a Covid outbreak ahead of the ODI series as three players and a few staff members contracted the virus.
Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer missed part of the ODI series after testing positive for coronavirus.

Breaching the bio bubble is allowed for BCCI president? I know who to blame if we get any covid cases in camp in coming days.
