The preparations for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) are going in full swing and in just over a week’s time, the Indian cricket board will host a two-day mega auction in Bengaluru.
590 players, including Indian and overseas cricketers, are set to go under the hammer on February 12 and 13.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the board is looking at Mumbai, Pune as the venue for the upcoming season of IPL and will take a call later on where to stage the knockout stages of the T20 league.
    The T20 challenge is back

When asked about a possible women’s IPL, Ganguly said that like in previous years, the Women’s T20 Challenge will be played but to get a full-fledged women’s IPL, the board wants the pool of female players to go up.
“Yes, of course, they will. The Women’s T20 Challenge will again be back this year in the month of May. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to host a bigger women’s IPL once the number of women players [player pool] goes up. But this year, the Women’s T20 Challenge will happen during the IPL playoffs,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
    CHAMPIONS!

The former India captain had received criticism from fans for not giving importance to women’s cricket.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who has been a vocal supporter of women’s cricket, took to Twitter to urge Ganguly to conduct a women’s IPL.
“A Womens #IPL should be top priority now @SGanguly99 !! Let’s get it sorted,” Vaughan tweeted.

    — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) February 3, 2022
Vaughan’s comments received mixed reactions from cricket fans from across the world on social media. While some were in favour of a full-fledged women’s IPL, some said England cricketers will then blame women’s IPL if their team loses in any format.
@MichaelVaughan later do not blame IPL for ruining WOMENS cricket also. https://t.co/Zp8Gpgf6oa

    — . (@Chiirkut) February 3, 2022Many of India’s female cricketers have urged the cricket board to host women’s IPL. Last year during a chat with India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Smriti Mandhana had expressed her views on how the BCCI can start a women's IPL with five or six teams and expand the tournament later.
"There are same number of states for men and women. So, when they started men's IPL, there were same number of states. But the quality went higher and higher as the years passed by," Madhana had said on Ashwin's YouTube channel.
"What IPL is today, it wasn't the same 10 or 11 years back. I think it's the same for women's cricket. We have same amount of girls playing cricket. For now, I think we will have good five or six teams to start with and probably grow to eight teams in one or two years. But till the time we don't start, we don't know," she added.

The curious case of Sukesh Chandrashekhar is back in the news. After the conman’s pictures with actress Jacqueline Fernandez got viral on social media , a whole can of worms opened for the actress. It was revealed that he had gifted her things worth crores and even bought expensive presents like cars and designer bags for her family members.

The actress was called for inquiry by the ED and post another round of pictures going viral where people spotted a hickey on her neck, it’s been a tough time for her in terms of losing out on projects, bad PR and she also had to pull back from the ‘Da-bangg’ tour in December. While she has complied and has always been available for the ED, the details of Sukesh’s shady connections with Bollywood started coming up.

It was also revealed later that the conman and his wife have reportedly gifted a BMW to Norah Fatehi,  and even she was summoned for inquiry. Sukesh’s lawyer has now released a new statement, which is a letter written by the accused in jail. Sukesh has claimed that they were no monetary benefits in the relationship and all his gifts were a part of them being romantically involved.  He also said the photos were ‘sad and disturbing’ and urged that she should not be projected in a bad way.
"As I have mentioned before, I and Jacqueline were in a relationship, seeing each other,  and the relationship was not based on any kind of monetary benefits like the way it's projected, commented, and trolled in a bad light (sic). I have gifted her things and done things for her family, which are normal things one would do for his loved one in a relationship. It's personal. I don't understand why it's being made such a big deal. At the same time, I would like to again be certain that none of this was 'proceeds of so-called crime'. It's all from legitimate earnings and the same would be proved in the court of law very soon," Sukesh said.

He also wrote that did nothing ‘except loving without any expectations’. “The relationship has lots of love and respect for each other without any expectations. Kindly request everyone to stop projecting her in a bad way, as it's not easy on her, who has only loved without expecting anything. As I have mentioned before that she has no involvement in the ongoing money-laundering case," the letter states. The actress had confessed on receiving gifts from Sukesh which include a horse worth Rs 52 lakh,  a Persian cat worth Rs 9 lakh and lots of jewellery and designer handbags.

Whenever we talk about superheroes, we usually tend to gravitate towards the fictional ones - be it Marvel or DC, or even 'Indian superheroes' like Baahubali. However, it needs to be acknowledged that the inspiration for most of those characters have been drawn from real people. Anyone who knows about the famous Gochikar brothers of Puri, will understand exactly what we mean.

Brothers Anil Gochikar and Damodar Gochikar are well-known as 'Baahubali' sevayats in Puri. They pulled the holi chariots of Lord Jagannath and his siblings during Rathayatra, and photos of their super muscular physiques at work went viral.

The photos became wildly popular on the internet, and they started to be compared to 'Baahubali', thanks to the famous scene where he pulls the rope to stabilize the giant statue.

Sourav Ganguly has been receiving a lot of flak for the way he has been handling things as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of late.
As the BCCI president, Ganguly had no role to play in any of the selection meetings but yet he bulldozed his way to attend several selection meetings.
Fans and cricket experts have been questioning Ganguly’s misuse of power to undermine various roles in the Indian cricket board.
Reports of me wanting to issue a show-cause notice to Virat Kohli are not true: BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to ANI

The former India skipper has been openly speaking about various decisions of the board on news channels even before the board announces it officially.
While some members of the board had denied the fact that there had been any violation of rule by Ganguly, a report has emerged where a member of the selection committee has come forward and admitted that Ganguly was part of various selection meetings.
The BCCI official also clarified that while Ganguly attended meetings, he did not interfere in the selection process. However, the mere presence of Ganguly in the meeting room was intimidating.

    — BCCI (@BCCI) October 24, 2019
“It is what it is. You can’t complain to your boss, can you? But has he interfered in selection? No, he hasn’t. However, his mere presence is always intimidating as he is the president of the board. But can’t talk about it more,” a member of the selection committee was quoted as saying by InsideSport .
Another official from the Indian board came in defence of Ganguly and said that the whole episode has been handled poorly and if members of the selection committee had problems with the former skipper attending selection meetings, they should have spoken to board secretary Jay Shah rather than leaking the incident to the media.

If there's something that is on the same level of grandness as drama-filled Bollywood films, it's the Bollywood weddings.
Having already witnessed the magnificent weddings of Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal, along with that of Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha, it looks like we have another wedding on our hands.
Yep! That's right. Rock On!! star Farhan Akhtar is finally getting married to his girlfriend Shibani Dandekar, with Farhan's father and legendary Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar confirming the news.

Here are three things that you should know about their wedding:

    1. The Wedding Date Has Been Finalized & There's No Time Left
    © Instagram/Farhan Akhtar
    Bhaag Farhan Bhaag? Yep!

According to reports, Farhan, who will star in the upcoming Marvel series Ms. Marvel, and Shibani will register their marriage on February 21, which means that they will have their court marriage on that date.
Reports further state that the couple had already filed the application in early January, with the registration now expected to take place in one of their houses in Bandra.
This literally means that dhoom dhaam se taiyaariyan chaalu hogayi hai!
    2. It Will Be An 'Intimate Wedding'

Farhan's father Javed has revealed that because of the current pandemic situation, the wedding may be on a small scale with only the people in the inner circle set to attend the wedding.
Speaking to Bombay Times, Javed said, “Yes, the wedding is taking place. Rest, shaadi ki jo taiyyariyan hain that is being taken care of by the wedding planners. Taking the (pandemic) situation into consideration it is obvious that we cannot host anything on a large scale. So, we are only calling a few people.”
Speaking about his future daughter-in-law, Javed revealed how his entire family is fond of Shibani.

“She is a very nice girl. All of us like her very much.”
    3. Wedding Will Be 'Full Of Food, Music & Celebration'
    © Instagram/Farhan Akhtar
What is a Bollywood wedding without good music and food? I mean, Farhan, being a musician himself wouldn't want things any different, and as per a source speaking to Pinkvilla, the wedding will actually be an occasion about just that.

“Farhan and Shibani always wanted an intimate wedding and are really excited about their big day. The party will be a small affair with only people from their inner circle in attendance. It will all be about food, music, laughter, and celebration,” informed a source in the know.
Good for Farhan and Shibani! They really do look great together! Can't wait for the big day.

Sourav Ganguly's term as president of the BCCI, like his time as captain of the Indian cricket team, has had its ups and downs. India played their first-ever Day/Night Test under Ganguly, while the women's squad competed in Tests in England and Australia, including a pink-ball game under lights.
Furthermore, one of the most difficult challenges the BCCI encountered was organising the IPL in the midst of a pandemic, which Ganguly overcame not once but twice by holding the world's largest T20 league in the United Arab Emirates. Despite this, the public continues to have conflicting feelings about Ganguly's candidacy for BCCI president.
    View this post on Instagram
As Ganguly's three-year term as BCCI president comes to an end in September-October this year, the former India captain revealed that he is still unsure of what kind of legacy he would leave. Instead, Ganguly has delegated to the public the task of determining whether the 49-year-old was a success or a failure as president of the BCCI.
"I don't think it's more challenging. What's my legacy? Well, I won't be able to tell it now. Let's see what happens. It is up to you all to judge my legacy, it is what it is. But it has been under tough circumstances due to Covid-19 over the last two years. The pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world and we are fortunate that we could still manage to get a majority of cricket done," Ganguly told Sportstar in an interview.
    View this post on Instagram
The purported disagreement between Ganguly and former India captain Virat Kohli has been the biggest setback in Ganguly's tenure as BCCI president. The whole affair started when Kohli, who had stood down as India's T20I captain, was also stripped of his ODI captaincy.
What made matters worse was Kohli and Ganguly's contrasting views on how the board reacted to Virat's decision to step down as India's T20I captain. While Ganguly claimed that he and the BCCI had asked Kohli to stay on, the former captain denied this.
    View this post on Instagram
This resulted in a back-and-forth dice roll. The entire controversy escalated to a climax with Kohli standing down as India's Test captain following the team's 1-2 Test series loss to South Africa, thereby removing him from command of any team.
Many believe Kohli's decision to quit as India's Test captain was influenced by the board's decision to fire him as ODI captain. The tale took another turn when it was alleged that Ganguly was going to serve Kohli with a ‘show-cause notice’ when he was stopped, despite the BCCI president vehemently denying any such allegations.
    View this post on Instagram
Regardless of the obvious difference between two of the most iconic people within the Indian cricket fraternity, nobody can criticise Ganguly for trying to do new things and making Indian cricket significantly more exciting during his tenure as the BCCI president.
Yes, the Men in Blue did go through some tough losses but with the pandemic practically ruining each and every plan that the Indian cricket board had for its players both domestic and international, it is safe to say that Dada did his best to play the game with the cards he was dealt.
