Ever since Ravi Shastri has stepped down as the head coach of the Indian cricket team following their early exit from the T20 World Cup 2021, he has been talking to the media and making some powerful comments about the situation of the game in the country and fans are absolutely loving his honesty and sincerity.
Recently, the former Indian skipper addressed the importance of the Ranji Trophy - the biggest domestic circuit for the game in India and one of the top sources for ace athletes who go on to represent the country at the highest level cricket has to offer.
The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it our cricket will be SPINELESS!
    — Ravi Shastri (@RaviShastriOfc) January 28, 2022
“The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it our cricket will be SPINELESS!” Shastri writes in his tweet which was well-appreciated by his followers.

Shastri was recognised for his openness and lack of fear, especially in an era when most cricketers and BCCI officials are too afraid to maintain transparency regarding whatever is happening inside the dressing room and the office chambers of the Indian cricket board.
Man has been on Alpha mode since he step down
    — Eminent Socialist (@wnnabesocial) January 28, 2022Ravi Shastri, redefining the definition of fearless, a concept.
    — Siddhi :) (@_sectumsempra18) January 28, 2022The GOAT talks about the necessity.

BCCI high command is ignoring the original format of the game.
    — Ajinkya (@HailKingKohli) January 28, 2022Now that’s what we wanted , that’s how it should be told . Well said Ravi Bhai , it’s high time the board starts thinking what’s right for the game instead of just finding ways and means to fill up those already full coffers . #Cricket #India
    — Nikhil Chopra (@nikhilchopra) January 28, 2022I feel in search of gold we lost a diamond in shastri !! I think him along with Kohli speaking out their minds without filter got them in trouble ! We could be heading the English way where eventually Ranji will downgrade to the level of county championship . 2 years NO RANJI
    — Kar4 LM7 (@messik4harah) January 28, 2022Shastri’s tweet comes after the 2020-21 season of the Ranji tournament was already called off because of the fear of the COVID-19 pandemic last year and the possibility of the 2021-22 season happening also hangs by a thread.
Officially, the men’s tournament was scheduled to begin in January, whereas the women’s tournament was on the boards from February. However, the Indian cricket board announced postponing it by a month and it is likely to start in mid-February.
The Board has decided to conduct the Ranji Trophy this season in two phases. In the first phase, we plan to complete all matches of the league stage while the knockouts will be held in June: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

    — ANI (@ANI) January 28, 2022
The problem is that the world-famous Indian Premier League is also scheduled to take place from March 27 which makes it practically impossible for the Ranji season to get finished in one go. As a result, Sourav Ganguly and other administrators are exploring the possibility of conducting the domestic tournament in two phases.
According to BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal, the league phase of Ranji 2021-22 is expected to be concluded ahead of IPL 2022 and the rest of the matches will take place once the T20 tournament is over.
@BCCI should mandate Ranji Trophy for International Players too . Make calendar such way that each player plays atleast two to three matches in a season
    — Satya4U (@satya4_u) January 28, 2022BCCI is selecting players on the basis of IPL in test squad,I mean white ball and red ball are very different format, thats why Ranji Trophy should be prioritised ahead of SMAT and VHT
    — Believer (@Kevin_2803k) January 28, 2022 pic.twitter.com/Tmi9pD2My2
    — ` (@FourOverthrows) January 28, 2022The general notion among the Indian cricket fans is that Ganguly and the rest of the BCCI officials are giving a lot of special attention to the IPL since it makes them the most money and as a result, are willing to sacrifice the quality of the Ranji tournament in the process.
While the IPL looks glamorous and players from all over the world are desperate to play in the league and take home their big cheques, the loss of time and experience for young Indian players being caused due to the disruptions in the Ranji season can be extremely harmful to the future of Indian cricket.

Pushpa actress Rashmika Mandanna is currently riding high on the success of her role as Srivalli and with her Bollywood debut coming up soon, the ‘national crush of India’ is all set to rule the roost. Before she found crazy success with Dear Comrade and Geetha Govindam, Rashmika dealt with her fair share of personal lows. Her old fans are aware that she was engaged to Kannada actor Rakshit Shetty and the two love birds were even engaged for a while.

    © Instagram
The former couple met on the sets of Kirik Party in 2016 and their fans were pleasantly left surprised and shocked when the actress called off their engagement abruptly.

As per reports, she was getting some good offers in Tollywood and she wanted to concentrate on her career ardently. “Rashmika made the decision after consulting with her parents, family elders and friends. It was a tough decision to make, but she is showing a lot of character in overcoming this personal and emotional setback. She has been receiving some exciting offers in Telugu and Kannada, and she wants to cement her place in both the industries," a source claimed.

Kirik Party was her debut movie and was written by Rakshit only. The two never made any official statements around this incident. However, Rashmika will soon be seen in her Bollywood debut with Sidharth Malhotra.

Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who were once considered to be an integral part of the Indian Test team, have done more harm to their credentials than good in the last one year.
Both the veterans of Indian cricket are currently going through a similar lean patch where runs are hard to come by. Their struggle in the middle-order has left the batting unit exposed and the team hasn’t been able to cope with that.
    © Reuters
Despite their extended lean patch, the team management persisted with them for quite a long time and gave them a long rope, ignoring the outside voices. Watching Team India struggle the way it did in South Africa and suffer a disappointing series loss, the fans and experts have started demanding for a change yet again.

Pujara and Rahane both have been abysmal of late but some people still feel that it's the former vice-captain whose place in the side is more under danger than his compatriot.
    © Reuters
Sanjay Manjrekar is among those who believe that the Mumbai batter’s time in the Indian team has been long over and he has already played his last game for the country. And if it were to him, Rahane’s career would’ve ended two years ago.

“If I am saying that it is Rahane’s last match (3rd Test vs South Africa in Cape Town), people should not wonder why I am saying that. I am sure you say the same thing privately, and the others,” Manjrekar told News 18.
    © Reuters
Comparing Rahane with former skipper Virat Kohli, the cricketer-turned-commentator said that the Delhi-batter is also going through a rough patch but the difference is he is still scoring gritty half-centuries every now and then which is not the case with the Mumbai lad. And that’s why he believes Rahane’s shelf-life is over and the selectors should look past him.

“It’s not about runs but also how someone looks in the field. It’s from 2017 that Ajinkya Rahane somewhere has shown that he is a little unsure. You can see it in the way h e bats, the way he gets out. That’s another thing that gives an indication about a player’s game.
    © Reuters
“For example, Virat Kohli is not getting a hundred but he is still putting out the 70s and there is great value in having Virat Kohli before he discovers form. So Rahane for me is clearly somebody that has a shelf life that is over,” he explained.

Explaining why he doesn’t feel Rahane and Pujara are in the same boat, he said: “Pujara is interesting, he’s coming close to 100 Test matches. It will need a very unemotional selector to leave him out. And I personally have more time for Pujara than Rahane. This is from observing the way they bat. No other reason. I feel there is something left in Pujara, but Rahane, if I would have been the selector, would have been out of my plans two years back.”
    © Reuters
Manjrekar has been often accused of being biased towards players who hail from Mumbai and many were surprised that he had used such strong words against a Mumbaikar. Reacting to Manjrekar’s remarks, some fans said that his comments only go on to show how terrible the situation is for the 33-year-old batter.

So what Rahane belongs to Mumbai lobby we must back him
    — SWARUP (@SwarupP00264925) January 14, 2022Oh no , no mumbaikar support by Sanjay shameful
    — Nitish Srivastava (@NitishSr29) January 14, 2022Even the Mumbai Lobby has spoken. Please drop him ffs @chetans1987 @imVkohli
    — Slayyer (@dominusToBe) January 14, 2022 A half-century followed by a series of low scores, that’s what Rahane’s career has been in a nutshell in the last couple of years. It happened in Australia, then England, and then in South Africa, and fans are totally fed up with this kind of consistency.
Like Manjrekar said, what’s worrying is the manner in which Rahane has been getting out is quite similar to one another and it clearly exposes the deficiency in his technique.
    © Reuters
Pujara might not be scoring runs but he has the ability to hold fort at one end and there’s no one like him who can take his place at the moment whereas there are several prospects who are rearing to take Rahane’s place in the starting XI.

The third film in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has gone through a lot of ups and downs in the last couple of years or so.
Back in 2018, James Gunn was fired by Disney from the franchise over years-old tweets that were termed offensive by many.
A year later in 2019, Gunn was reinstated by the studio. However, by then he was already hired by rival Warner Bros to helm their band of misfits in The Suicide Squad.
After completing and releasing the two DC projects, The Suicide Squad, last year and its spin-off Peacemaker, which is streaming currently, James Gunn has returned to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
    © Marvel Studios
In a recent interview, he also gave an update about the hugely anticipated film saying it will mark the end of the team that people have showered with love over the years.

He told Deadline, “This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.”
He further teased, “It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark and different from what people might be expecting it to be. I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
He also pointed out that he is aware how the third film in a trilogy is often bad but he is cautious and that won’t be the case with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, “I’m aware that the third film in most trilogies sucks; not always.”
    © Marvel Studios
Since he mentioned “this team of Guardians”, it could mean the franchise will carry on with new Guardians joining the mix. There have been rumours that fans may have to bid adieu to Rocket or Drax among the current Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will mark the return of the band of misfits consisting of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).
The new major entrant in the franchise will be Adam Warlock played by Will Poulter of We’re the Millers, Midsommer and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader fame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 releases on May 5, 2023.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur got into some humorous banter with KL Rahul, the newly-announced captain of the Lucknow Super Giants with regards to his budget for the club. His fellow Man in Blue, Yuzvendra Chahal responded to Thakur's question with a hilarious jab of his own.
In the video which has been shared all over the internet ever since first being published online, Shardul can be heard asking the Indian vice-captain KL Rahul about the kind of budget he would have set for him. The deputy in-command cheekily responded by saying “base price” suggesting that they would not pay them more than they had to.
    View this post on Instagram
This is where the notorious Yuzvendra Chala made his entry with a rib-tickling comment of his own. “Bhagwan ke lie budget nahi hota (You do not have a budget for God)," says the spinner while referring to the long-running joke of Thakur being called “Lord” by his fans and teammates.
The Lucknow franchise is one of two new teams joining the Indian Premier League ahead of its 15th season, alongside the still-unnamed Ahmedabad franchise. The RPSG group's Super Giants have already announced that they will have KL Rahul leading the squad this season after acquiring him for INR 17 crore and making him the most expensive IPL buy so far. They also got onboard Marcus Stoinis, the mighty Australian all-rounder for INR 9.2 crore and the young Ravi Bishnoi for INR 4 crore.
    View this post on Instagram
Shardul formerly played for the Rising Pune Supergiants, a team owned by the RSPG organisation that is now out of the league. Following a two-year spell with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Thakur made his way to the Pune franchise for the 2017 season before joining forces with Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings in 2018. He was also instrumental in the franchise's fourth championship success in 2021.
“Lord” Shardul's all-around prowess across all formats of the game will put him on the radar for every club, given the increasing desire for a bowling all-rounder in the T20 format, after he was released by CSK ahead of the super auction.

The Indian cricket team got off to a terrible start in 2022, as they are yet to win their first match of the year. The team has played two Tests and three One-Day Internationals thus far, in which they have failed to live up to their reputation and have lost all three games.
And while the fans of the Men in Blue were still struggling to recover from the series of losses, Indian legendary batter Virat Kohli explicitly announced that he will be stepping down from the role of the Indian Test captain following a 2-1 series defeat to South Africa on foreign soil.
    View this post on Instagram
The reason that Kohli gave for taking such a drastic step was that he wanted to focus on becoming a better batsman and that getting away from all the added responsibilities will definitely help him become more valuable to his squad and prolong with a career as a successful and one of the greatest cricketer of all time.
While the Delhi-born is well on his way to being called the most prominent champion of Indian cricket in the current era, some of the biggest legends of the game feel that the 34-year old still has a lot to give to his team and the rival teams have a lot to fear about when Kohli lets himself loose.
    View this post on Instagram
One of South Africa’s all-time icons, Jonty Rhodes expressed that he would be “nervous” facing a Virat Kohli who would not have any kind of extra duties to adhere to and to have the sole objective o scoring as many runs as he can.
“I'd be a little bit nervous of a Kohli who doesn't have the responsibility of leadership. Not that it cost him anything. I think he scored incredible runs for India. But he is such a passionate guy that he would want go out there and score heavily just to show that he is still relevant to India in any capacity,” said Rhodes while addressing a virtual media meet organised by Sony Sports Network.
    View this post on Instagram
While it is unfortunate that Kohli never managed to win an ICC tournament during his time as the skipper, he is considered to be one of the most successful captains this team has had the honour of being led by. Kohli is also by far, the most successful red-ball captain with 40 wins off 68 matches under his belt while being in the role.
With the next Test series due in March, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to announce Virat Kohli’s replacement as the next Test captain of the country. As of now, the white-ball captain of the squad, Rohit Sharma seems to be the leading candidate.
    View this post on Instagram
However, names like Ravi Shastri believe that while the ‘Hitman’ is more than capable of leading the Indian side, the Indian cricket board must also start developing a younger player to replace Sharma when he decides to call it quits.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is set to take place in a few weeks. With the inclusion of two new teams, all the 10 franchises will look to build a strong team that can help them to lift the trophy.
With the auction set to be held on February 12 and 13, teams have already started to make strategies and mark out players they want to target at the auction table.
The Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took to Twitter to share a picture of their skipper MS Dhoni who arrived in Chennai to help the team with their auction strategy.

Ahead of the IPL mega auction, the Chennai-based franchise retained their skipper Dhoni, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and England international Moeen Ali. The franchise also showed faith in youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad as he was also retained by the management ahead of the auction.
While most of the franchises who retained their skipper, paid the most amount to their captains, Dhoni showed his selfless nature as he conveyed to the team that he does not want to be their first pick of retention.

There is finally some good news for the makers of 83 in terms of box office numbers.
Despite receiving rave reviews and extremely positive response from all those who watched it, 83 is considered a huge flop due to its sky-high budget.
The film has barely crawled past Rs 100 crore at the box office in India. However, there is a different picture altogether in the overseas markets of the film.
The Kabir Khan directorial starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role has turned out to be the highest-grossing Indian film overseas in the last two years.

83 has beaten the likes of Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan’s biggest blockbuster Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior that released in 2020 and also 2021 releases like Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Allu Arjun’s nationwide phenomenon Pushpa: The Rise.

According to the official figures, 83 has grossed Rs 62.54 crore in its 31-day run overseas.

Sharing his excitement on this achievement, Kabir Khan said, “The kind of love and appreciation that the movie has received from the people across the globe is truly heart-warming and flattering. Wherever there are no Covid-19 related restrictions and theatres functioning properly with full seating capacity, the film has performed brilliantly in those markets. And that’s a sheer indication of the fact that the film has been hugely appreciated by the audience, worldwide.”

The official Twitter account of the film also shared the news with the caption that read, “83 becomes the highest-grossing Indian film overseas in 2020 and 2021. #ThisIs83”.

Earlier, Kabir had defended the poor collections of 83 in India by slamming the trade analysts and calling the reporting of the numbers “unprofessional”.
Reportedly, the film based on the Indian Cricket Team’s 1983 World Cup win is the biggest disaster of all time in terms of losses beating Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
