The third film in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has gone through a lot of ups and downs in the last couple of years or so.
Back in 2018, James Gunn was fired by Disney from the franchise over years-old tweets that were termed offensive by many.
A year later in 2019, Gunn was reinstated by the studio. However, by then he was already hired by rival Warner Bros to helm their band of misfits in The Suicide Squad.
After completing and releasing the two DC projects, The Suicide Squad, last year and its spin-off Peacemaker, which is streaming currently, James Gunn has returned to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

In a recent interview, he also gave an update about the hugely anticipated film saying it will mark the end of the team that people have showered with love over the years.
He told Deadline, “This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.”
He further teased, “It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark and different from what people might be expecting it to be. I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
He also pointed out that he is aware how the third film in a trilogy is often bad but he is cautious and that won’t be the case with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, “I’m aware that the third film in most trilogies sucks; not always.”

Since he mentioned “this team of Guardians”, it could mean the franchise will carry on with new Guardians joining the mix. There have been rumours that fans may have to bid adieu to Rocket or Drax among the current Guardians.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will mark the return of the band of misfits consisting of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).
The new major entrant in the franchise will be Adam Warlock played by Will Poulter of We’re the Millers, Midsommer and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader fame.
