If you ever wanted to get an iPhone or already own one that isn’t from the iPhone 12 Series lineup, you will want to upgrade to the iPhone 13. The flagship iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are quite expensive which means I would only recommend getting those smartphones if you are a photography buff and have the extra cash to splurge. However, if you still want a taste of the best with a slightly lower price tag, the iPhone 13 or the iPhone 13 Mini might be perfect for you.
I switched from the 13 Pro to the base model offerings from Apple and have been using it for the past week and a half to determine if it’s worth your money. Here’s what I think about the iPhone 13 and 13 mini after switching from the flagships:
Design and Display The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini don’t look much different from their predecessors. The phones have the same flat edges, same size and material that you can also find on the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini.

While the iPhone 13 Pro exudes luxury by having stainless-steel trims, the 13 and 13 Mini have a matte glass back instead. It’s a very subtle way to distinguish between the two, however the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini still feel more premium than any other smartphone from 2020/2021. Since the phone has aluminium bands instead, it is fairly lighter than the Pro Models. This makes it easier to wield the phone than the pro models which might be something you might like if you’re not a fan of heavy smartphones.

Both models are available in five colours i.e. pink, blue, midnight (black), starlight (white) and (Product)Red. I got to test the pinkish iPhone 13 Mini and the blue iPhone 13. While the colours do look great on both phones, I preferred the colour palette of the iPhone 12 instead. Pastel colours take a while to get used to, however I tend to prefer the more muted colours. Having said that, there is a good chance you might use your brand new iPhone with a case/cover, so it doesn’t really matter what I feel anyway. Colour preference is a subjective decision and I suggest you go with your gut feeling over which colour you prefer.

At the back, you will find the new camera module that houses sensors diagonally. This is the only visual cue that differentiates the iPhone 13 from the iPhone 12 series. However, the camera bump is now larger and the phone is also slightly thicker which is why you are forced to purchase a different protective case for the iPhone 13. Apart from the subtle changes, the staple design features make a return as well. Both the iPhone 13 and 13 mini are IP68 rated, lack a headphone jack and support wireless charging.

When it comes to the display, the iPhone 13 uses a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2532x1170. The iPhone 13 Mini uses a 5.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2340x1080. Virtually the display sizes remain the same from last year, however both phones do have reduced the size of the notch.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
Both phone’s displays support features such as P3 wide colour gamut, True Tone, Dolby Vision and HDR 10 content. The display can reach a peak brightness level of 1,200 nits, especially when watching HDR content. The display’s overall brightness has also been increased, making it easier to use the phone under direct sunlight.

The quality of the display is again amongst the best I’ve seen on a smartphone. I do have to give a shout-out to the display calibration team for making the colours feel very vivid. The display is as good, if not better than the iPhone 12 Pro and if you like to watch a lot of content on your smartphone, you can’t go wrong with this one.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
The screen offers rich colours and deep blacks that make watching content on Apple TV+ a dream. I highly recommend watching content that supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound formats to get the best experience with the iPhone 13 and 13 mini. Having said that, viewing video content may not be as much fun on the iPhone 13 mini due to its smaller size.

With all being said, the lack of a 120Hz refresh rate for the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini is a little disappointing. Having experienced the smoother animations and gaming on the iPhone 13 Pro, it’s a feature that should have also made its way to the iPhone 13.
Cameras The iPhone 13 and 13 mini come with a dual-camera setup at the rear which consists of 12MP wide and ultra-wide sensors. Both cameras have seen considerable improvements from their predecessors as both sensors now let in more light. This results in clearer images with sharper details and realistic colours.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
However, much like the iPhone 13 Pro, you can now choose photographic styles that suit your liking. You can use the default profile or switch to another style such as rich contrast, warm, cool and vibrant. I prefer using the Vibrant setting as I did on the iPhone 13 Pro models as well.

Low-light camera performance has also improved drastically, thanks to the new sensor-shift image stabilisation feature. This enables the iPhone 13 to capture images with lower shutter speeds and not sacrifice the details when your hand moves around.
For normal daylight photography, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini handle highlights well and have better control over the exposure. Due to this very reason, most images don’t look like oversaturated versions of the subject.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
If you like to capture a lot of videos, it doesn’t get better than the iPhone 13 series. Thanks to the new sensor-shift stabilisation, the overall video performance is fantastic on the iPhone 13 series. 4K videos look crisp and do not have foreseeable camera shake either. The audio captured in videos is also amongst the best and is even better than high-grade action or vlog cameras.

The iPhone 13 also supports the latest cinematic mode where the phone’s video capturing capabilities are closer to professional video cameras. In this mode, the camera can automatically change focus from subject to subject either in the foreground or the background. If you’re not happy with Apple’s solution, you can even manually shift focus between subjects from the gallery.
To get a better idea of the iPhone 13 and 13 mini’s camera, have a look at the camera samples below:

Performance and Battery Life The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are both powered by Apple’s latest A15 Bionic chipset. It is the same chipset you can find on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, however the only difference here is the lesser RAM. The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini are outfitted with 4GB of RAM which is more than enough to handle iOS 15 and a slew of apps. The A15 chipset is currently the most powerful, fastest, and most efficient chipset in the market.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
In benchmark tests, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini scored an average of 1,655 (single-core) and 4,460 (multi-core). The iPhone 13 could handle everything I threw at it with ease, even when using heavy-duty apps like iMovie. In terms of gaming, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini gives more or less the same performance as the iPhone 13 Pro. It handled games like Pokemon Unite, Dead Cells and Genshin Impact with flying colours. I didn’t notice any frame-rate drops, stuttering or app crashes because the A15 couldn’t handle it. However, I do have to point out that these heavy tasks drain the battery on the iPhone 13 mini faster.

    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
Speaking of battery life, the iPhone 13 can last long — like really long. The iPhone 13 can last for 19 hours of video playback with a 60% brightness level. When streaming content, the battery life drops down to about 15 hours. On the iPhone 13 Mini, the battery life is far shorter as the size of the battery isn’t as large. Having said that, considering the size of the iPhone 13 mini, it can last an entire day with moderate use as it definitely lasts longer than the iPhone 12 mini.

The Final SayThe iPhone 13 and 13 mini might look almost identical to their predecessors but it doesn’t mean these phones aren’t amongst the best right now. Powered by the most efficient and powerful chipset right now and coupled with highly capable cameras, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini even beats the best of flagship Android smartphones. If you’ve been wanting to upgrade or start using an iPhone for the first time, the 13 or the 13 mini should be the only options you consider right now.

Apple is often criticised for not using a USB-C port on the iPhone even though the Cupertino giant uses it for its laptops and tablets. Even the EU Commission is thinking of forcing Apple to make the switch as it leads to electronic waste and does not support the idea of a universal charger. However, a robotics engineering student has managed to do something Apple refuses to do.
Ken Pillonel has managed to install a USB-C port on an iPhone X where it is able to charge the iPhone and even transfer data over the cable. This shows that someone with limited resources such as Pillonel can make it work, and it begs the question why can’t Apple?
    © Youtube_Kenny Pi
According to Apple Insider, Pillonel spent months on the project in his spare time and opened many USB-C and Lightning cables to make this project work. His first iteration was able to charge the phone over USB-C but was rather large and did not fit inside the iPhone. He then removed all the wires and managed to squeeze it inside the body of the iPhone X.

Pillonel reverse-engineered Apple’s custom C94 connector and created his own custom PCB design that could fit inside the shell of iPhone X’s body. Thanks to the custom PCB, the USB-C port can be used for charging as well as transferring data which was teased by the student in a video this week. Pillonel is expected to release a full video later this week that will explain exactly how the student managed to reverse-engineer the C94 connector and fit his custom PCB inside the phone.

The video comes at a perfect time as the European Commission is deliberating whether Apple should be forced to switch to the USB-C port. Apple might be forced to launch an iPhone using a USB-C port in the next couple of years or even a port-less iPhone that only supports wireless charging.
We will know more about Pillonel’s process once he releases the full video, however as of now, it is not certain when it will be released. This is not the first time Pillonel has managed to modify a piece of consumer technology. He modified a Xiaomi Mi Wireless Car Charger that works with the Galaxy Fold. He 3D-printed the mod for the Galaxy Fold that works as if it was made for the Galaxy Fold by Samsung.

Amitabh Bachchan recently terminated his contract with a pan masala brand saying that he didn’t know that it ‘falls under surrogate advertising’.

This came after he was requested by a national anti-tobacco organization to withdraw himself from the advertising campaign.
The ad campaign promoted pan masala and the national anti-tobacco organization advised him that withdrawing himself from the brand would stop youngsters from getting addicted to tobacco.
Earlier, his fans had also criticized the move.
    View this post on Instagram
An official statement was released, saying, “Kamala Pasand … a few days after the commercial was aired, Mr Bachchan contacted the brand and stepped out of it last week. Upon checking why this sudden move – it was revealed that when Mr Bachchan became associated with the brand, he wasn’t aware that it falls under surrogate advertising Mr Bachchan has terminated the contract with the Brand, has written to them his termination and has returned the money received for the promotion.”

    View this post on Instagram
Earlier, a letter had been addressed to Amitabh Bachchan and Shekhar Salkar, President National Organization for Tobacco Eradication, stating pan masala ads should be stopped immediately.

The letter read, “As an oncologist and member of an NGO working in the field of tobacco cessation, I am aggrieved and provoked to wage war against the dubious measures, such embellishment done by various influential and famous Bollywood actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Hrithik Roshan, leading to increased tobacco use among students.”
Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan had responded to a fan who asked him why he chose to endorse the brand.
He said, “If some people are getting benefits from an industry, we should not think as to ‘why am I getting associated with it?’ If it is an industry, then we too should think of it as our industry. Now, you may think that I should not be doing it, but I get paid for it.”

Days after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja expressed worries about their country's overreliance on the International Cricket Council (ICC) funding, their Prime Minister Imran Khan has echoed the same concern and said that world cricket is 'controlled by India' and that no team wants to go against them.
Pakistan recently suffered a twin blow when New Zealand and England both cancelled their limited-overs tours to the South Asian nation citing various reasons.
    © Twitter Blackcaps
The Black Caps packed their bags and returned back home from Pakistan after receiving solid security threat intel from their government, while the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) called off their tour citing the mental well-being of its players.

The former all-rounder, who guided Pakistan to their one and only ODI World Cup title, said that the reason why most countries do as they are told by India is that they don’t want to spoil their relationship with the Indian cricket board.
    © Reuters
Accepting India’s influence in world cricket, Khan said that the situation is such that none of the cricket boards would dare to stand against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) because of its enormous wealth.

“Money is a big player now. For the players, as well as for the cricket boards. The money lies in India, so basically, India controls world cricket now. I mean, they do, whatever they say goes. No one would dare do that to India because they know that the sums involved, India can sort of produce much more money” Khan said in an interview with Middle East Eye.
Reacting to the news of England cancelling its tour of Pakistan, Khan said that the ECB still feels that they are doing some kind of favour to Pakistan by sending their team there, hence they didn’t think twice before withdrawing from the tour.
    © Reuters
“I think England let itself down. I think that there is still this feeling in England that they do a great favour to play countries like Pakistan. One of the reasons is that, obviously, the money,” he added.

Earlier this month, the newly appointed PCB chief had expressed concerns over the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can reduce Pakistan cricket to ashes, if he wants.
    © Reuters
Raja voiced his concerns while addressing the Senate Standing Committee meeting earlier this month.

When asked how PM Narendra Modi could pull the trigger and destroy their cricket, Raja said that the PCB relies heavily on the 50 per cent funding from the world governing body, which generates 90 per cent of its revenue through business houses out of India. So, in a way, Indian business houses are running cricket in their country.
PCB chairman Ramiz Raja told Pakistan’s Senate Standing Committee that Indian business houses in a way run Pakistan cricket and Indian PM Modi has power to ensure collapse of PCB#PakistanCricket #RamizRaja pic.twitter.com/fbpUk2g5Fx
    — Zee News English (@ZeeNewsEnglish) October 8, 2021
“PCB is funded 50% by the ICC that is funded 90% by the BCCI or in a way, the Indian business houses are running Pakistan cricket. If tomorrow Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi feels that we won’t provide any funding to Pakistan, then this cricket board can collapse,” he said.
“Our cricket is relying on ICC’s funding right now and when I see the books, I get very scared because the contribution of local entrepreneurs is minimal,” the PCB chief had said.
Despite being fully aware of the sorry state of cricket in their country, the PCB chief is busy blaming the BCCI for corrupting the DNA of foreign players by handing them hefty IPL contracts. One of their ministers even accused India as the main perpetrator behind the cancellation of the New Zealand tour.
    © Reuters
It’s not the BCCI's fault that it's the richest cricket board in the world. It only speaks volumes of the efficiency with which cricket is run in the country, without any political interference. Teams have refused to tour Pakistan not because India paid them but because they were worried about the safety of their players.

Rather than accepting that they failed to provide top-notch security, the PCB chief and now their PM Imran Khan want to hide their inefficiency by blaming India and portraying them as the real villain.

An entire family of 11 was found dead in one single night. It was no ordinary sight to see the family members hanging by their necks in the open space in their own house. The lone survivor was a dog who was left tied in the scorching heat on the terrace. Three generations of people, all of whom seem to have committed suicide. No foul play was suspected in the Burari deaths case that shook the entire nation.
Netflix has come up with a documentary based on these deaths titled House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths and people are spooked by the theories shown in the documentary. If you have seen the documentary, you would agree with us that it left all of us unsettled. Filmmaker Leena Yadav has done an incredible job of diving into all the theories that were floating around on the internet about their deaths.

If you are wondering what happened to the house after this incident, news is that it has been attracting people as a ‘haunted home’. As per a report in ScoopWhoop, the family's home in Burari, North Delhi, is a 1,070-square-foot property. The three-storey house is being occupied by two families - Kashyaps stay on the ground floor of the house and also run Dhruv diagnostic center on the premises. The Ali's family has been taking care of the first and second floors of the house.

As per the report, the neighbours have claimed that they have felt a spooky presence outside the house but the current owners have quashed these rumours. The apartment’s rent is inexpensive because of the horror stories that are floating around.

    © Netflix
All the 11 members of the house died but two members who weren’t living with the family survived. The two siblings still haven’t been able to process what happened with their relatives. The eldest son of the family Dinesh Singh Chundawat stays in Rajasthan and is a contractor. He had earlier told The Hindu, “Our entire family was in Rajasthan, in and around Sawa village. We did not want to cut ties. Also, I liked open spaces, something which Delhi did not have. Bhavnesh (the second sibling) and his wife came along and we thought we would set up a business together.” The sister Sujata Nagpal has been staying in Panipat.

Talking about the documentary, the filmmaker Leena told The Hindu, “This particular case really got my attention. I wanted to know the why and how of it, and I was not satisfied with the information around me. So when Netflix asked if I had a subject for a documentary in mind, this was on the top of my list. I wanted to investigate it myself as this case has so many layers and we haven’t learnt about a single one yet.”

She added, “I have tried to evolve my own style of a documentary telling in House of Secrets. The subject defines the style, and I find that when the visual language, the edit, and the structure serve the telling of the story, it elevates the experience.”
Elaborating on the challenges she faced during the shoot, she said, “We [Indian society] are not very aware of documentaries, and as we genuinely live by the rule ghar ki baat ghar mein hee rehni chahiye [private matters should remain within the four walls of the house], getting people to open up was a bit difficult. But the fact is that people also want to talk about it. Additionally, it was a very emotional subject at various levels. It was painful — especially interviewing the friends and family — but the lessons learnt were many.”

As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to make it past the Eliminator for the second consecutive season, this time losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets, was the end of an era for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
Their talisman Virat Kohli had already announced at the start of the second leg that he would not be leading the franchise beyond this season. It was not the end that he wanted but under his leadership, the franchise became one of the teams to beat year after year.
    What a journey this has been! #VIVOIPL | #RCBvKKR | #Eliminator pic.twitter.com/jYU3eydci2

For the past nine seasons, Kohli had led the franchise with great aplomb, shattering all kinds of personal milestones along the way.
After the match, Kohli became very emotional as he addressed his teammates for one last time as the leader of the group.
His close friend AB de Villiers, who was standing next to him, couldn’t control his tears as well.
It's really Shatters ur heart to see this moment....No matter whichever team u support but a true Crick fan will always knw that these 2 legends gave @RCBTweets more than what it deserved over the years....#RCBvsKKR #Rcb #viratkholi #ABDevilliers pic.twitter.com/iaPf7rFtqz

The video that has gone viral shows Kohli standing surrounded by his teammates in a team huddle and wiping his tears and taking deep breaths to control his emotion.
De Villiers, who has been an important part of the franchise for so many years, stood still as tears flew down his cheek.

Just can't take it. Looks like he was in tears as well. This hurts. Aahh. An IPL trophy which isn't meant to be.. #RCBvsKKR #IPL2021.
    — Anurag Mallick (@anuragmallick51) October 11, 2021 Reflecting on his journey as the leader of RCB, Kohli said that he tried to create a culture where youngsters could come in and express themselves without any fear.
He also emphasised that he always gave his 120% as a player and as a skipper.

“I have tried my best to create a culture here where youngsters could come in and play expressive cricket, play with belief. It is something I have done with India as well. I have given my best. I don't know how the response has been, but I have given 120% to this franchise every year leading the team, which is something I will now do as a player. It is a great time to regroup and restructure for the next three years with people who will take this ahead,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
    © Twitter/IPL
He also made it clear that for him, loyalty is above everything and he doesn’t see himself playing for any franchise other than RCB and wished to remain a one-club man till his retirement.

“Yes, definitely, I don't see myself playing anywhere else. Loyalty matters more to me than worldly pleasures. I would be in the RCB till the last day I play in the IPL,” said the outgoing skipper.
Watching their skipper get emotional like that brought tears to the eyes of every RCB supporter. The fans had hoped to see Kohli go all the way and end his tenure with a trophy but it wasn’t meant to be.
Not just RCB fans, the visuals of Kohli and ABD in tears turned even the die-hard KKR supporters emotional.
    Dear Virat Kohli,
Hands shivering, tears in eyes, but still here to tell you something.
When you announced that you're leaving RCB's captaincy, being an RCB fan my heart came out.

    — Pragya Roy (@pragyaroyy) October 11, 2021Really sad to see Kohli and ABD in tears. Wish they had gone all the way and won the trophy this time. More than the loss it's painful to see such negativity in social media, inhumane! #RCB
    — Kumar (@KumaReloaded) October 11, 2021Am I the only one seeing Virat Kohli holding back tears/about to have a terrible breakdown when in private?

I support KKR but it breaks my heart to see him like this, knowing all that he has gone through.

Kohli might not have any trophies to show for his efforts at RCB but his passion and commitment for the franchise was unparalleled.

Every year he entered the competition with the sole aim of winning the elusive IPL trophy but not every journey is meant to have a happy ending and so was Kohli's stint as the leader of RCB.
Instead of looking at it as a disappointing end, let’s hope now that he has relinquished captaincy, Kohli bats with even greater freedom and dominates bowlers for many more years to come in the IPL.

Taapsee Pannu is one of those actors who leave no stone unturned to fit in the role they are required to essay on the screen.
She has two sports films releasing soon, and she has moulded herself into the character of an athlete emotionally and physically, and it shows.
    © Instagram/Taapsee Pannu
For her role as Rashmi Rocket, where she is playing a track and field athlete, she transformed her body into a muscular, athletic physique for which she was mercilessly trolled too for having a “manly body”.

However, she took it as a compliment and said she worked really hard for the ‘mard ki body’.
    © Instagram/Taapsee Pannu
She had shared in an interview that she made it clear to her team that she will not take any kinds of steroids, even if that means she falls short of the targets they have set for her in terms of fitting into the body of an athlete for Rashmi Rocket.

Taapsee admits she always had and wanted a more muscular body than a slender and petite one and shared how to achieve both by understanding the difference between the two.
    © Instagram/Taapsee Pannu
In a recent interview with an entertainment portal, she opened up about how both types of bodies require different types of workouts, approaches and diets.

“There's a big difference. To get a bikini body, you have to follow a streamlined approach, and that is to simply shed weight. Nothing between your skin and bones. That's what you have to achieve if you look at the kind of bikini body that people expect to see; slim and slender,” she said.
    © Instagram/Taapsee Pannu
She further said, “Now, I don't have a body type that can complement that kind of look. I am an athletically built person, so even if I get down to skin and bones, you won't see that petite frame that you see with a lot of other actors,” adding that “I was always inclined to have a slightly muscular body which looks like I've put in the hard work.”

    © Instagram/Taapsee Pannu
Taapsee, who has managed to achieve both a slender bikini body and an athletic one, said the latter takes a ‘very scientific approach’ with different exercises, diets and machines that are made to work on the muscle. “It's a different ball game altogether,” she said.

Rashmi Rocket is set to release next week on Zee5, while her other film in line is the biopic of Indian cricketer and the Test and ODI captain of women's national cricket team, Mithali Raj.
