On Tuesday, Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar made his first attempt at requesting bail in the murder case of 27-year old junior wrestler Sagar Dhankar and running away from the police.
Kumar’s advocate, Pradeep Rana accused the Delhi Police of fabricating the evidence and trying their best to portray a wrong image of his client. “In this case, twelve persons were present and none of them made a statement against me (Kumar). They make a statement after a delay of weeks and in some cases a month. This is because the police are trying to conceal something,” Rana said in a statement on behalf of the Olympian.

He further accused the Delhi Police of relying on supplementary statements of the witnesses in order to fool-proof their original statements. He also stated that the head constable who claims to have brought Dhankar’s body to the hospital after the alleged beating he took at the hands of Kumar, was not even present at the hospital.
Kumar’s lawyer also said that Dhankar’s dying declaration was “up in the air” and further questioned the reasons behind a sub-inspector’s 40-day delay in giving his statement.

Special Public Prosecutor Atul Kumar Srivastava began his rebuttal by reading out loud the opinion shared by a forensic assistant on Sushil Kumar’s behaviourism after being arrested for the murder. He read that Sushil “showed no signs of remorse or guilt” and “was extremely ego-centric and he behaved as he thought that he is above the law”.

He went on to explain the reason behind the delay in the sub-inspector’s statement by stating that the police officer was dealing with a severe medical issue. Srivastava further added that a statement must be recorded even if a person comes up with it after years of the crime taking place.
“They were behaving like wild animals on a hunt. They hunted him (Sagar) like wild pigs. He was flailing on the floor while they mercilessly beat him,” Srivastava told the court.
A #Delhi court rejected the bail plea filed by wrestler #SushilKumar who is currently lodged in a jail over a murder case.

While the court did ask Prosecutor Srivastava to stick to the facts and evidence of the cases in his rebuttal, it was also decided by the judge that Kumar’s bail plea would be denied.

Neeraj Chopra recently shared a tweet while promoting the auctioning of the javelin he had used to win the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics earlier this year.
Stand a chance to make my Olympic javelin yours, at the https://t.co/XCT5G6GNBf auction which will take place until Oct 7.

Proceeds from the auction will go towards the Namami Gange initiative. pic.twitter.com/mdWZA72VJ1
    — Neeraj Chopra (@Neeraj_chopra1) October 5, 2021
“Stand a chance to make my Olympic javelin yours, at the http://pmmementos.gov.in auction which will take place until Oct 7. Proceeds from the auction will go towards the Namami Gange initiative,” he wrote in the post on the micro-blogging website.
With the deadline to bid for the item being October 7, 2021, 5 PM IST, the highest bid is already sitting at Rs 1,00,00,500 and more and more people are offering their bids to have possession of the priceless javelin.

According to Chopra’s tweet, all the proceeds that come from the auction will go towards the Namami Gange Programme, an initiative started by the Government of India in 2014, with the “twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.” The initial budget outlay for this project was Rs 20,000 Cr according to NMCG.
However, the Olympic gold medallist’s decision to auction off his memorable javelin did not sit well with some of his fans, even though it is for a good cause. Some felt that Chopra is wrong in giving away that one true thing that not only made him a world champion but also brought him seemingly limitless fame and global recognition. Others simply do not believe in the Namami Gange initiative.
Bhai ji it's your memories for the lifetime with this javelin, please don't sell it in auction...
This money will not go in namami gange, it will go in the pockets of corrupt politicians in power now..please keep it with you bro
    Jai haryanavi jai hind

More than money, Namami Gange project requires intent.
    — Yogesh Kumar ਯੋਗੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ (@igoy_k) October 6, 2021I appreciate the spend on #NamamiGange initiative and also pro @narendramodi but the question arises that why #Ganga is not cleaned yet despite of spending billions. Where is accountability or plan or it’s adhoc. Sorry but I have to express the reality @Pvsindhu1 @mirabai_chanu https://t.co/c3UaBpgUn1
    — ManishMadbaiyaUSA (@ManishMadbaiya5) October 6, 2021However, there were also those who felt that it was a great step that Chopra had taken towards protecting the Ganges river and that auctioning his javelin for a cause as big as this will only bring his fans closer to him.
I think it's good initiative taken by d Govt of India .v known Ganga as MaaGanga,it's holy water .it's every1's responsibility dat v should keep clean rivers and surroundings 2.hope fr the best bid for NamamiGange!it's also supported by Shri.Uma Bharati. pic.twitter.com/8dMKz568Yy

    — Akshay Gupta (@GuyWithYogaMat) October 6, 2021Sir it's a great initiative by our respected pm......u r great
    — Kiran Tiwari (@KiranTiwari05) October 5, 2021The auction also features the javelin used by Sumit Antil to bag the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020, the badminton racket used by shuttler PV Sindhu to win the bronze medal, a hockey stick signed by the members of the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal. Other sports equipment such as Bhavani Devi’s fence is also up for grabs.
The last time such an auction took place was in 2019. In that auction, the government raised over Rs 15.13 crore.

The former captain of the England cricket team turned analyst, Michale Vaughan feels that the introduction of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the ‘mentor’ of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup may bring a big change in the final squad.
View this post on InstagramVaughan suggests that Dhoni, who is also the captain of the Chennai Super Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League, will tell Indian skipper Virat Kohli to pick his CSK teammate Shardul Thakur as the team’s go-to all-rounder during the tournament.
“The mentor of Indian T20 team (MS Dhoni) is behind the stumps, he's the captain of CSK and you probably think he's gonna tell Virat and Shastri 'you know come on…',” Vaughan said in a Cricbuzz video.

"Shardul has that ability to make things happen. He's got that deceptive pace. You watch him bowl, you think he's just doing it normally but he has a very good deception. The ball that got Ashwin, was just through him," said Vaughan.
“He can surprise the batter and obviously the subtle variation that batsmen seem to find it difficult to pick. He's certainly doing something with the ball that is deceiving the batters,” he added.
View this post on InstagramAlthough his name has not yet been added to Team India’s 15-man squad, the chances of it happening have increased exponentially as the mainstream all-rounder, Hardik Pandya has continued to struggle with his batting.
Still recovering from his back injury, Pandya is also yet to bowl his first delivery of the 2021 season of the IPL and on the basis of the mixed reactions coming out of the Mumbai Indians' dressing room, it is highly unlikely that he will be bowling at all this year.
View this post on InstagramThakur has shown incredible form with the ball during the second leg of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the 13 matches that he has played so far this season, he has picked up 15 wickets at an economy of 8.52, which is fairly decent when it comes to the shortest format of the game.
In the previous match against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals, Thakur had his best bowling figures of the season so far. He picked up two wickets while giving away just 13 runs in the 4 overs he had bowled, although CSK lost the match by three wickets.

Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most loved cricketers in the country and this is why when he decided to bring down the curtains on his international career last year, fans were disappointed that they didn’t get to see him in India colours one last time.
Despite ending his international career, MS Dhoni continued to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has been like his second home for over a decade.

His fans also know that Dhoni doesn’t have much cricket left in him and the speculations of him retiring from the IPL have surfaced multiple times in the last two years.

Last year, when CSK had endured their worst season in IPL history, Dhoni was asked the same thing, if it would be his last year in franchise cricket.
Back then he shut down all the speculations with his famous two-word reply: “Definitely Not”.

Dhoni had promised that they would come back strongly next year and boy he has kept his promise.

CSK, who were the first team to be knocked out of the competition last year, turned their fortunes around and became the first team to book a playoffs berth in the 14th edition.
For the first time, Dhoni opened up about why he chose August 15 to announce his retirement from international cricket. He said: “It can't be a better day than that -- 15th August.”
    © Twitter IPL
During the same interaction, Dhoni, for the first time, gave a solid hint about his future with the CSK and his farewell game.

The three-time IPL champion made it clear that the ongoing edition won’t be his last season in the Yellow jersey as he intends to play his farewell match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai next year.
“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there," Dhoni said while interacting with fans during India Cements’ Platinum Jubilee Year celebration.

Dhoni, who turned 40 in July this year, has definitely lost his touch with the bat in hand but his decision-making is still top-notch and he has proved that time and again this year already.

After this announcement, the fans of the Chennai-based franchise can breathe easy knowing that Dhoni would stick around for one more year and this time they would get a chance to bid him proper goodbye at their home venue in Chennai.

Vicky Kaushal will be seen playing the role of revolutionary leader Sardar Udham Singh in his upcoming film Sardar Udham, which will release later this month.
Ahead of its release, Vicky recently talked about his fear of becoming a typecast actor, in an interview with News18.
“For me, either there are good films or bad films. They either get connected to the audience or they don’t. I don’t think that I have so many patriotic films or romantic films. It is not my process. When I hear a story and it connects to me, even if I have attempted that genre a hundred times before, I will still jump at it as it is a story that I have got connected to. When I am doing a film, I am thinking from the perspective of the audience. I don’t fear being typecast as I am also aware all the characters that I have done or I am doing are different."
    View this post on Instagram
Sardar Udham is a film about the life of Indian revolutionary Udham Singh, the man who shot Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Vicky said, “It is not a biopic of a man. It is a biopic of his ideologies and of a freedom struggle. So, it is a much bigger and deeper biopic. There are certain archival photographs which we have used as a reference in terms of the looks and styling but beyond that, the film primarily was about what his state of mind was at that time."
    View this post on Instagram
Vicky also expressed how playing the character wasn’t easy.
“Many freedom fighters get lost in our history books as they are mentioned in just one line or a paragraph or maximum a page. Sardar Uddham Singh was one of them. It is not a character that is widely documented in our history books. If you check the books you will find different stories, identities, and sayings of one man. How do you then tap on to the core of that person? Very early on when I started discussing the film with Shoojitda, I understood that there was only one way to do this was to completely surrender to his vision and how we wanted to guide it.”
He further elaborated, “I had heard stories of Sardar Uddham Singh from my grandparents and parents, it was almost a part of folklore. So, there was always this connection to the core that I could relate to. I could also connect to his angst because the Jallianwala Baugh massacre to everyone across the globe had hit very brutally. A person who had taken an oath to avenge that bloodshed, not in India but to actually cross borders and go all the way into the heart of the British empire and do what he did, for me, it’s a story of resilience, bravery, patience, and of a very passionate person. Through this film, I wanted to explore that passion."

Earlier, Irrfan Khan was supposed to play the role but he opted out due to his deteriorating health. Vicky Kaushal expressed that he never took the pressure to replace the late actor.
He said, “Nobody can fill his shoes. For me, Irrfan Saab is one of the finest actors in the world. It has been an honour that I have been considered for the same film."
