Let's face it. We might not agree on a lot of things but there is one thing that we can't deny. Heath Ledger's performance as Joker in The Dark Knight was truly iconic and still stays with us despite the movie releasing almost 13 years back.
Β© WB
Β© Twitter
In fact, since then, Jared Leto has sort of played the same character in Suicide Squad, with then Joaquin Phoenix putting in a terrific performance in the standalone Joker film. But regardless, Ledger's performance as Batman's arch-enemyΒ stays unparalleled. Not only was he great as the Joker, it really was an acting masterclass in every way.
Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was his last as he passed away six months before the movie was released, after which he went on to receive posthumous awards including a Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Now, if you have seen the Joker in The Dark Knight, you'd remember that Heath Ledger's psychopath of a character would constantly lick his lips, something that almost became a mannerism of sorts. Well, a TikToker going by the name of Film.Funfacts has now debunked the real reason why Heath did that.
Β© WB
I mean, I for one, didn't know that there really was a reason behind it, as most of you as well. In what is a 30-second video that has garnered over 3.5 million views and nearly 400,000 likes, the voice-over of the video can be heard saying, "Did you know that in The Dark Knight, Jokerβs famous lip-licking was actually an effort to keep Heath Ledgerβs scar prosthetics from falling off? The scar makeup on his cheeks would go loose when he talked, so he kept licking his lips to keep it on."
I mean, wth! That really is crazy! Imagine that for an improvisation technique. This is purely why Heath Ledger remains the finest actor to have graced the big screen despite his early demise.
The video also includes the word of Heath's dialect coach, who reveals that Heath resented spending extra minutes trying to get the prosthetics back in place, and so the 'licking lips' move became second nature to him.
"Well, the last thing Heath wanted to do was to go back and spend another twenty minutes or a half an hour trying to get the lips glued back again. So, he licked his lips a lot, and then slowly that became part of the character," he said.

Ravichandran Ashwin has struggled to get playing time in the last few months and his struggles were quite evident when he stepped onto the field as Delhi Capitals faced SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)Β in Match 33 of Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) () in Dubai on Wednesday.
Playing his first competitive game in months, Ashwin bowled fairly wellΒ but failed to provide any breakthroughs for his side in the middle overs -- a job that everyone expects him to do whenever he is playing.
Β© Reuters
Ashwin is one of the best spinners of the modern generation but still effects of lack of game time were clearly visible in his bowling.Β
While SRH batters struggled against most DC bowlers, they didnβt face any major difficulty in dealing with Ashwinβs bowling. He didnβt trouble the batters enough and scoring runs against him was comparatively easier on the night.
Former Indian opener Virender SehwagΒ felt Ashwin didnβt bowl his stock off-spinning deliveries that much because he was afraid of being taken away for boundaries. Sehwag said that when Ashwin used to play under MS DhoniΒ he never allowed him to experiment with his bowling too much.
Β© Reuters
Instead of bowling too many variations, Dhoni always encouraged the off-spinner to rely more on his stock delivery, even if that meant conceding a few boundaries. Sehwag feels that it was this confidence shown by his skipper that worked wonders for Ashwin and he picked tons of wickets in both the IPL as well as international cricket, with Dhoni dictating proceedings from behind the stumps.
βRavichandran Ashwin has a mindset that if he bowls off-spin, anyone will hit him for a four or a six. Because of this fear, he resorts to experimentation. When MS Dhoni used to be behind the wickets, he never allowed Ashwin to experiment,β Sehwag said on Cricbuzz Live.
Β© Twitter
βSometimes, you need to make a bowler realize that no doubt a batsman may hit you for a six but it also gives you a chance to get him out. The way he was bowling, it gives him the least chance to dismiss a batsman. If he resorts to off-spin, then LBW, bowled comes into the equation. Yes, he was economical but as a senior bowler, he should give breakthroughs in the middle overs," the former India opener explained.
On the face of it, his advice might seem too conservative in nature but it worked wonders for Ashwin and helped him pick loads of wickets in the early part of his career.
Β© Reuters
Too much of anything can be disastrous and Ashwin relying on other variations more than his stock delivery can bring his limited-overs career to an end and he certainly wouldnβt want that, especially because he has made a comeback to Indiaβs T20I side after a long gap of four years.
He needs to put his best foot forward for Delhi Capitals to warrant a place in Indiaβs Playing XI for the upcoming T20 World CupΒ because there are many other quality spinners like Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, among others who are all fighting for the same spot.
Β© Reuters
If by keeping things simple, Ashwin can bring back those glory days of his white-ball dominance, he should definitely give it a try.

On Wednesday, the Marylebone Cricket Club confirmed to have changed terms like βbatsmanβ and βbatsmenβ to more gender-neutral terms like βbatterβ and βbattersβ in the βLaws of Cricketβ in order to show their support towards making the game more universal and inclusive at its very base.
Jamie Cox, Assistant Secretary (Cricket and Operations) at MCC said: βMCC believes in cricket being a game for all and this move recognises the changing landscape of the game in modern times."
MCC to use gender-neutral terms like "batter" instead of "batsman" pic.twitter.com/VK4GtgN2lD
β cricketwebs (@cricketwebs_com) September 23, 2021
βUse of the term βbatterβ is a natural evolution in our shared cricketing language and the terminology has already been adopted by many of those involved in the sport. It is the right time for this adjustment to be recognised formally and we are delighted, as the Guardians of the Laws, to announce these changes today.β
In the last five years, womenβs cricket has seen an incredible rise in popularity all over the world. From the T20 World Cup in 2017 between India and England at the Lordβs cricket ground to the 2020 T20 World Cup in Melbourne between India and Australia, all the big matches took place in front of capacity crowds.Β
86,174 - On this day in 2020 the Women's T20 World Cup Final at the @MCG set the record for the largest crowd ever at a women's sporting event in Australia with 86,174 spectators as @AusWomenCricket ran out to an 85 run victory over India on the day. Hers. pic.twitter.com/masuk74sTC
β OptaJason (@OptaJason) March 7, 2021
Additionally, earlier this year, the opening match of The Hundred tournament in England also saw a new record for viewings for a domestic womenβs cricket match in the country as over 17,116 people tuned in to watch the game.
With more and more media houses, publications and commentators beginning to use gender-neutral terms while talking cricket, it was about time that the official copy of cricket laws changed their view on the issue as well.
Having said that, not a lot of people are sure about the magnitude of impact such a change will make on the cricketing scenario at an international level.

β Anna (@mabelisadog) September 22, 2021Having said that, there are some other words that are used in day-to-day cricketing language such as βthird manβ and βnightwatchmanβ. Many asked about whether these will also be changed to gender-neutral terms like βthird personβ or βnightwatchpersonβ. To which, MCC responded with another tweet:
The fielding position βthird manβ, along with other cricketing terms like βnightwatchmanβ and β12th Manβ are not included in the Laws, and so any changes to such terms are outside of MCCβs control as Guardians of the Laws.

A high-end Delhi restaurant has found itself in the middle of a controversyΒ after a woman bashed them on social media for not letting her enter the property because she was wearing a saree. To be honest, it's extremely disappointing but not really surprising because such incidents have occurred in the past too. Itβs sad how despite being a part of a country that believes in diversity, we come across such cases.
In a Facebook post, Anita Choudaary alleged she was not allowed to enter the Aquila restaurant because she was wearing a saree. "In one of the restaurants in Delhi, a saree is not considered to be a smart outfit. The restaurant's name is Aquila. We argued over saree, and a lot of excuses were made, but I was not allowed to enter the restaurant, because the Indian attire β saree is not a smart outfit. I have never been insulted like this. I also feel hurt," she wrote.
Hereβs her post:
The hotel management has a different narrative, however, and has completely denied that they barred her from entering the premises because of her attire. They claimed to be a native company that values Indian culture and has always welcomed customers dressed in ethnic wear or western wear.Β
The restaurant further added, "A guest visited the restaurant and was politely requested to wait at the gate as there was no reservation under her name. However, while we discussed internally where we could seat them, the guest entered the restaurant and began to fight and abuse our staff. What unfolded after was beyond our imagination, with the guest slapping our manager."Β
βWe believe in utmost transparency and are hence attaching snippets of people who have visited our restaurant in a traditional dress code previously,β the restaurant management said in the statement. In one of their videos, they have shared how other women in saree have entered the restaurant.Β
Hereβs the full statement:Β
View this post on Instagram
After the statement went viral, men and women took to social media to protest against the restaurant in their own ways.Β
Women started posting photos wearing sarees and highlighted how saree is probably one of the best smart attires as it can be used for both formal and informal occasions. They also went on to say that itβs a part of Indian culture.Β

After warming the bench throughout the Test series in England, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin finally returned to action, taking the field for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals who locked horns with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their first match since the restart.
Β© Twitter IPL
The veteran off-spinnerβs omission from Indiaβs Playing XI in England had raised several eyebrows as people couldnβt understand the reason behind dropping the worldβs best off-spinner.
Hence, when Ashwin found a place in the DCβs Playing XI on Wednesday night in Dubai, the fans were delighted. However, there was one person who didnβt like the idea of having Ashwin in the starting XI ahead of leg-spinner Amit Mishra.
143 Days Later, DC's superstars take the field again
Thoughts on our Playing XI to face #SRH? #YehHaiNayiDilli #DCvSRH #IPL2021 @aplapollo_tubes pic.twitter.com/sGNRkTDPZh
β Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) September 22, 2021
No points in guessing, it was indeed Sanjay Manjrekar who had a problem with Ashwin's selection because he felt Mishra was the more capable bowler than the former CSK star, especially in this format.
βAs always I have a problem with one selection, Amit Mishra missing out, maybe because of the profile that he carries, I am comparing Mishra as a bowler with Ravichandran Ashwin. If you take everything away from the success of Ashwin in Test cricket and just look at the contribution or potential value he adds to the team as a pure spinner, I think Mishra wins that contest for me,β Manjrekar said in an ESPNCricinfo show.
βI always like to be clinical about such things, Amit Mishra is a bit unlucky to miss out,β he added.
Thereβs no doubting Mishraβs credentials. He has been a proven match-winner for whichever franchise he has played for in the IPL over the years. He is the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL history.
Β© Twitter IPL
Ashwin wasnβt too far behind in terms of wickets but he boasted a much better economy than Mishra and you donβt need to be an expert to understand that in T20 cricket stopping runs is equally important as picking wickets.
To say that Ashwin was less effective than Mishra was like an insult to the off-spinner and all his achievements and this was not the first time Manjrekar had courted controversy by passing an unnecessary judgement about Ashwin.
Β© Twitter Sanjay Manjrekar
Earlier this year, Manjrekar had raised objections over people calling Ashwin an all-time great because according to him his overseas performance was just not good enough to warrant a place in the all-time greats list.
βRavichandran Ashwin, with due respect to him, I think he's a great guy at what he does, but when people start talking about him as one of the all-time greats, I have a few problems with that,β Manjrekar had said in an ESPNcricinfo video.Β
βOne basic problem that I have with Ashwin is that when you look at SENA, the countries for batsmen and bowlers, places where Indians find themselves outside their comfort zone - it's amazing that he doesn't have a single five-wicket haul. Not one five-wicket haul in all these countries,β he explained.
Β© Twitter IPL
Like most of us, Manjrekar is free to have his opinion about any player. There is no problem with having a personal preference but that doesnβt mean he has the license to belittle the achievements of a world-class spinner just because he doesnβt like him personally.
Ashwin is not the only player he has targeted again and again, as his equation with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is no secret.Β
When he starts comparing two players of completely different styles, then it highlights a serious flaw in his rationality as a cricket expert. Rather than logic, his opinions are dictated by his personal preferences more often than not and thatβs totally unacceptable.

It hasnβt been a good time for the Pakistan Cricket Board lately. Their New Zealand counterpart withdrew from the scheduled tour of Pakistan at the last moment, citing security concerns. This obviously left the organizers red-faced.Β
Soon after, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also abandoned their tournaments on course to be organized for October. Both the menβs and womenβs teams backed out from the series due to a government alert that predicted a potential attack outside the Rawalpindi Stadium.Β Β
Β© PCB
Pakistan has been unable to host cricket tournaments ever since the 2002 terror attack on the touring Sri Lankan Cricket team. International cricket was barely conducted in Pakistan ever since. Dubai and Abu Dhabi became the temporary home grounds for the Pak cricket team due to a lack of viable alternatives. It was only after 2019 that the country managed to play international test cricket due to an improved security situation.Β
As per initial plans, the Kiwis were supposed to participate in three ODIs and five T20 Internationals in the country. In fact, theyβd even landed in Pakistan to play these games. This was supposed to be the Black Capsβ first tournament on Pakistani soil since 2004. However, the schedule went for a toss as the New Zealand cricket team got orders to return home immediately.Β
Β© NZC
The NZC said in a statement, βThe side was to play Pakistan this evening in the first of three ODIs in Rawalpindi, before moving to Lahore for a five-match T20 series. However, following an escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisors on the ground, it has been decided the BLACKCAPS will not continue with the tour,βΒ
The cancellation of both tournaments will affect the Pakistan Cricket Boardβs finances adversely. It wouldnβt be conjecture to say that they had high hopes from this tournament. The PCB had gone out of their way to prepare for the New Zealand Cricket Teamβs visit. The significance of these games was not lost on them.Β
According to the latest reports, the PCB might want to hold on to their wallets dearly as theyβve been served a gargantuan bill that they definitely wouldnβt have seen coming.Β
Β© ORF Online
The Pakistani Cricket Board invested heavily in the security of the visiting team. Reports in Anandabazar Patrika state state that five SPs, over 500 SSPs (Police Officers), and the Pakistani Army in Islamabad and Rawalpindi had been recruited to ensure the safety of the New Zealand Cricket Team.Β
Β© iStock
Such elaborate security arrangements naturally need to be kept well-fed. And boy, were they fed well. Exacerbating Pakistan Cricket Boardβs financial woes, each security personnel consumed biriyani twice a day, racking up the total cost to an unbelievable Rs 27 lakh.
The PCB must have surely learned their lessons from this experience. Perhaps next time theyβd look for humbler dietary alternatives to cut down on their overall costs.

Rohit Sharma is clearly the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League. It is under his leadership that the franchise has won all of its five championship titles. As an individual player as well, Sharma has the record of winning the most number of championships in the league at the moment (6).
As a batsman as well, Sharma remains in very rare and elite company as he is just one of six players to have scored over 5,000 runs in the league. With 40 half-centuries and a hundred, Sharma remains the fourth-highest scorer in the league's history behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina.

One would expect that all these achievements and success would have gone to Sharmaβs head by now and that he would have started behaving very differently now that he has clearly established his dominance as a batsman and a captain in the IPL.
However, the MI skipper recently shared his thoughts on how he perceives every single match without caring about whatever he has achieved in the past:
"I honestly don't believe in past records because T20 is a game of on that particular day what happens, it's a game of that. You have to be best on that day,β Sharma said in a video recently shared by the Mumbai Indians' website.
In the past, MI has won 22 out of the 28 times they have played against KKR. Clearly, it is a formidable record and shows exactly how good Rohit Sharmaβs team is against their Kolkata rivals. Still, that doesnβt change his approach towards the competition even a bit.
βI know that weβve had a very handy record against them but itβs important that we turn up really well on that particular day and do the job.β
It is because of Sharmaβs humility that he continues to be one of the most loved and respected members of the Indian cricket fraternity and why critics find it extremely difficult to dislike him.

On the first day of the second leg of the Indian Premier League 2021, Virat Kohli had announced that he will be stepping down as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after the season was over.Β
However, a former Indian cricketer has shared that elite batsmanβs tenure as the franchise leader may end sooner than he had first wanted it to be, especially because of the way he made his team operate against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first match of the second leg of IPL 2021.
View this post on Instagram
βLook at the way he was playing against Kolkata Knight Riders. Just clueless! It seems he is struggling big time right now. There are chances that he could be removed mid-way through the season,β the former Indian cricketer told IANs on the basis of anonymity.
In just the last couple of weeks, Kohli has announced some drastic measures, including giving up his T20I captaincy once the T20 World Cup 2021 concludes. He had said that he wanted to give more time to his performance as a top-tier batter and reduce his workload as well.
View this post on Instagram
Considering the fact that RCB not only got dismissed for 92 runs - the lowest team total in IPL 2021) - but also allowed KKR to win against them in just 10 overs, shows the lack of ability on the skipperβs part to make the best out of the worst.
βIt has happened earlier also with other teams β like with Dinesh Karthik in KKR and David Warner in Sunrisers Hyderabad, among others. They were either removed or they stepped down mid-way. So it can happen in RCB as wellβ¦ I have this feeling after watching yesterdayβs match. One more bad game and you can see a change in RCB captaincy right away," added the former cricketer.

While Dinesh Karthik had announced stepping aside from captaincy and had got replaced by Eoin Morgan as KKR skipper back in IPL 2020, things turned out to be even more brutal for David Warner. Within a dayβs time, the Australian not only lost his captaincy but was also removed from the Playing XIΒ of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The iPhone 13 series has been launched in a number of regions including India. However, as we know the iPhone is priced very differently in each region due to local laws concerning imports and duties. In some countries, the iPhone 13 can cost almost $3,000 or Rs 2,21,272.50. Now, a new report by Money SuperMarketΒ shows how many hours people need to work to buy the brand new iPhone 13 in their country.Β
The research shows how long someone needs to work to be able to afford an iPhone 13 (128GB version) based on minimum wage and how much the phone costs in the country. In some countries, the iPhone 13 costs less than say in India and those countries even have a higher minimum wage as well. This disparity makes it harder for people to buy the iPhone in countries where it costs a lot more than other regions.Β
Β© Money SuperMarke
In India, people have to work 724.2 hours (30 working days) in order to afford the base variant of the iPhone 13. The research assumes that all calculations has taken a typical 8-hour workday into account. It also took the average tax by state, province and country to define the price as well. To put things into perspective, in Hong Kong, people can afford an iPhone 13 128GB priced at $874 in just 7 days of work. Thatβs because the local minimum wage is higher and the phone also costs less. In Switzerland, people need to work less than 7 days to buy an iPhone 13 with the local minimum wage.
Β© YouTube/mKBHD
It is also worth pointing out that the price of the iPhone depends on varying local taxes, currency fluctuations against the dollar and other laws. Since the iPhone 13 series will be fully imported to India at the moment, it will attract higher import duties than the rest of the models that are assembled in the country.Β
The iPhone 13 series will be officially available in India from September 24th and has already gone on pre-order. The phoneβs pre-order numbers are already outpacingΒ the iPhone 12 Series. In India., the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini will retail starting at Rs 69,900 (mini) and Rs 79,900 for the iPhone 13. The iPhone 13 Pro will retail starting at Rs 119,900 while the 13 Pro Max will retail for Rs 129,900.Β

Salman Khan, whose personal life has always been a bit of a mystery to his fans, has delivered many successful movies in the industry, namely Tere Naam, Dabangg, Tiger and many more, and most of them have been a huge success at the box office.Β
Apart from that, he has often been in the news for the women he has dated. While he is happily single now, the actor did date a few women in the past.Β
We are certainly aware of Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being a part of Salman's life. However, Salman also dated Sangeeta Bijlani for over a decade. They were madly in love and were about to get married. But, Sangeeta then ended up getting married to cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin. Sangeeta also quit Bollywood after her marriage. However, her relations with Salman remain cordial.

In an interview with a leading daily, she spoke about connections and said, "Connections donβt break."

When asked about her friendship with Salman, she said, "Connections never go away. The love between your partners, school friends never go away. People will come and go. Nobody will be permanent in life. That does not mean you feel bitter or angry. At one point you evolve. There was a point in time of my life where I was childish and stupid, but I am a grown-up now. Life is full of experiences.β
In fact, when Salman was once seen in Koffee With Karan, he had openly spoken about getting married to Sangeeta. He said, "There was a time that I really wanted to get married and then it just didnβt work out. I have always come so close.
