If you haven’t noticed it yet, Twitter in India is always filled with hate trends, rumours are laced with trolls, and then comes a cry for boycotting a certain actor or a Bollywood movie. It has been a pattern that we have been noticing for a while now. A while ago, Kareena Kapoor KhanΒ was trolled for hiking her fee for playing Sita and these were just mere reports as nothing was officially confirmed.
It was being reported that she has been roped in to play the role of Sita in an upcoming mythological period saga film which will be helmed by Alaukik Desai. People started trolling her brutally as they felt she wouldn’t be able to do justice to the role of Sita and also targeted her for asking Rs 12 crore for the role.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, β€œBebo who usually asks in the Rs 6-8 crores range for her films has quoted a sum of Rs 12 crores which have put the producers in a tizzy. In fact, right now, they are reconsidering their decision and also taking the film to a younger actress, as well. But talks are on and Bebo remains the first choice.”
According to the source, "Sita will need at least 8-10 months of prep, shoot, and production. So she will be completely consumed by one film at that point but Bebo also realizes that this will be her biggest magnum opus till date, as it's a retelling of Ramayana from Sita's point of view.”
KareenaΒ has now reacted to all the trolling and has chosen to give it back to haters with dignity. In her conversation with The Guardian, she spoke about equal pay in the industry in light of the controversy for the first time.
β€œJust a few years ago, no one would talk about a man or woman actually getting equal pay in a movie. Now there are a lot of us being very vocal about it," she told the Guardian. She went on to add, β€œI make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given. It’s not about being demanding, it’s about being respectful towards women. And I think things are kind of changing.”

A lot of industry colleagues spoke in favour of her like Taapsee Pannu. She told Bollywood Bubble, β€œYou'll always read about this problem issue of hiked salary with women. But why not? She is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country. If she commands a certain salary for her time, it's her job. Do you think any other mythological characters that are played by men, do you think they do it for free? I don't think so."
Before we jump to any further conclusion, it’s already stated that Kareena won’t be a part of this movie as the makers are planning to rope in Kangana Ranaut for the part.

Recently, in Thalaivii, Kangana Ranaut'sΒ onscreen portrayal of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa has led to comparisons between their actual lives. Kangana has always been extremely vocal about various socio-political events and often taken as a process of her building her image as a future politician.Β

At a press event in Delhi on Thursday, Kangana said, β€œI am a nationalist and I talk about issues related to the country, so people think I talk about political issues. Maybe it’s the same thing, but not for me, because I am not a politician. I talk as a responsible citizen and a person who has been elevated to celebrity status by the people. So I talk about the rights of the people and the country.”

She added, β€œWhether I can become a politician or not, that’s not in my hands. You cannot even have a panchayat election without the support of the people. If have to join politics, it will have to be because the people want me to, or if I have that caliber. For now, I think I am good as an actress, and I’m happy with that. But in the future, if people choose me, elect me, I would definitely love to.”

KanganaΒ also said that playing a politician on-screen has made her even more aware of the struggles of winning people’s hearts. She said, β€œWe have certain preconceived notions about politicians, we usually don’t know what they have been through to reach where they have. We think they are so powerful, but we aren’t aware of the work they have done at the ground level and delivered results. Similarly, I had an image in my head about Jaya amma. When I used to look at her photos, I used to think it must be so great to be in power.”

Kangana further explained, β€œAfter doing this film, I realized it’s a lot of hard work and there’s so much competition. Politics is like playing chess. Your friends become your enemy, there are threats to your life. Without understanding all this, we judge politicians more harshly than we would judge a successful doctor or an actor. We forget that they have put their lives at stake to reach a certain position.”
