Nayak released in the year 2001 and the storyline revolved around a corrupt CM who wasn’t helping the state grow.

The film was released 20 years ago and was a commercial failure back then. However, the film went on to acquire cult status over the years.
Anil KapoorΒ took to Instagram and wrote as the film completed two decades, β€œ20 years ago I was the Reel life CM for a day and the rest is history! A lot of people had their views about me doing #Nayak but I knew I had to do this film & believed in its message! And now here we are celebrating #20yearsofNayak!!”

Anil KapoorΒ plays the role of Shivaji Rao, an honest journalist who gets the opportunity to interview the CM and ask him scandalous questions.Β
The CM is shown to be corrupt and is unable to handle the reality check given by the journalist.Β
CM Balraj Chauhan then asks Shivaji Rao to become CM for one day in order to understand how difficult his job is. While Chauhan thinks his day will go to waste, Rao ends up making many changes and delivers a comparatively clean and hopeful system.Β
Nayak was directed by filmmaker S. Shankar. It was a remake of his own Tamil directorial Mudhalvan.Β

Anil said in an interview, β€œHonestly, all we knew while making the film was that it would be something special. Something for the ages. We had no clue it would gain the kind of traction that it did.”

He added, β€œI think it’s the subject matter that is just so relevant and relatable. The people, the government, and the tensions therein will always remain a topic of great interest and personal relevance.”
He also said, β€œI remember the fight scenes, each of which felt like a film in its own. Back then we did not have the technology that we have now so it was all raw hard work and choreography.”

With Thalaivii, Kangana Ranaut will be bringing to life the journey of the legendary actor-politician J Jayalalithaa from films to politics. And when you are playing a real-life personality who has been very influential, it obviously has massive risks involved. There’s pressure to deliver it just right because the person you are portraying on the screen is someone with whom people connect on an emotional level.
Considering Jayalalithaa’s popularity down south, fans have been eagerly waiting for the movie to release and are expecting it to do justice to her journey. Kangana initially thought she was not suited for the role as she hails from Himachal. Kangana told Film Companion South, β€œI thought I was the worst casting for Thalaivii. The worst there can be. Vijendra sir came to me, and I saw Jaya maa's videos, and I was like β€˜what!’”

She continued, β€œHe kept saying, β€˜You have to do it, you have to do it’. And the sheer obstacles of me, in my 30s, to gain 20-25 kgs of weight. And who knows how I'll look after gaining… I would go mad, I would stress about it, and at this stage of my career, I have so much to lose. So I was filled with doubts when it came to Thalaivii… Few people gave me a lot of confidence. Vijendra sir comes from the Telugu industry, but it's Vijay sir who actually… He said, β€˜You will do it, you are the perfect casting’. And I thought he will be bashed in Tamil Nadu and he has so much to lose; people are going to be offended. But he's a big director, there must be some merit in it. He also has everything to lose. You know how people are.”

She also added that people will burn theatres if she isn’t able to convince them. β€œJaya maa has temples. They will burn theatres if someone doesn't live up to (the expectations). That kind of passion people have for her.”
Starring Arvind Swami as MG Ramachandran, Prakash Raj as M Karunanidhi, Jisshu Sengupta as Sobhan Babu, and Bhagyashree as Jayalalithaa’s mother Sandhya, the multi-lingual film is produced by Vishnu Vardhan and Shailesh R Singh. The film is slated for a theatrical release on September 10.Β Β
