Hate him as much as you like but there is a reason why Badshah is one of the most popular music directors and singers in India. He truly has helped in establishing the careers of a great many numbers of singers that we hear today. The fact that most of their music makes a lot of people want to pour boiling oil down their ears, is a different matter altogether.

Basically, say what you will, whether good or bad, but Badshah has had an indelible mark on India’s mainstream music scene. One thing that even his haters will have to agree with is that the man knows the business of music inside out.

Here are a few ways he has impacted India’s music scene. Do keep in mind that although some of them have been for the good, most of them...Well, not so much.

The Good1. Reviving Old Folk Music

The best thing that Badshah has done with his music is popularising old, forgotten folk songs, and we genuinely wish he continues to with this. Remember that song with Jacqueline Fernandes that he shot, Genda Phool, well the hook of the song, or the refrain, was a line from an old Bengali folk song.

Then again, the refrain from his latest single, Baawla, is from another popular Haryanvi folk song that is predominantly sung around Jhajjar. At least he’s reviving these old folk songs at a time when other music directors seem to have forgotten about them.
    2. Making Music More Reels Friendly

Hate it as much as you want, but one of the biggest ways that music is being consumed today is through reels & dub smash-like videos. Because his songs are extremely catchy, and their hooks are earworms, they make for good music for reels or dub-smash content for people who’re into those sort of things.

    3. Reinventing Party Anthems
Although one cannot credit just Badshah for this, party anthems back in the day used to suck. It would generally be an obscure DJ, mixing up the most popular songs of the year. Musicians like Honey Singh, Badshah & Raftaar at least gave us proper Party Anthems. In the mid 2010s, which then kicked of a trend, or rather a genre of sorts.
The Bad1. Not Crediting Original Singers/Crediting After Getting Called Out

One thing that Badshah is often accused of, is not crediting the people who have ‘inspired his music.’ Basically, the people whose work he has copied, or appropriated, allegedly of course. Only when he is called out on social media by aware and active users, does he share the credit. The credit also often just buried deep into the YouTube description of the music videos. This happened both times, with ‘Genda Phool,’ as well as ‘Baawla.’

    2. Remixing The Crap Out Of Old, Folksy Songs

While we are at it, can we just say how much autotune and sound mixing do folk songs really need if they need it at all? There is no other way of saying this, but folk songs lose their essence whenever they are remixed. Don’t get us wrong, folk songs can be remixed. Look at what Coke Studio does regularly, or for that matter, The Dewarists. That’s the way to go.

    3. His Lyrics

We have been over this a gazillion times - Badshah has a long and checkered history with lyrics. Sometimes, they are problematic, and sometimes they are downright creepy. But by and large, they hardly make a coherent sense. His lyrics tend to be a cringefest. Just take a look at his lines around cricket and wicket in Genda Phool. Or for that matter, pick any other of his more recent songs.

    4. The Music, Beats Et All

The tune of the song or the music is the easiest thing to remember about a song. You may forget the name of a song, but you hardly forget the music or the tune of the song. Heck, we’re pretty sure, like all normal people, you’ve wished you could hum a song to Google and find out its name.

Badshah’s music isn’t like that. All of them sound the same and are identical to the brain. You seriously cannot distinguish between the music of the songs, they all appear to be the same. This is mainly because when you take the hook or the refrain of the song out, most of them are monotonous, and often have the same sound signature.
    5. The Way The Videos Are Shot
    © Instagram/badboyshah
This may be subjective to a lot of people, but most of these music videos that hit 125 million views or 300 million views are shot in a very drab and predictable manner. There will be an expensive car, a private jet, a beautiful face dancing to the song, a heck lot of women dancing to the song in the background, and tons of bling. Badshah may not have started this trend, but he sure has been an equal opportunity offender when it comes to this.

There are several underground rappers and ‘undiscovered’ musicians who make far more interesting and visually stimulating music videos, that too on an overall budget that might be less than the money spent on one of these big-ticket music videos.
    6. Making Music A Game Of Numbers
Again, this is not something that is exclusive to Badshah, but he for sure has been the biggest culprit. Badshah has often claimed that his music videos have broken single-day viewership records. And how is this feat achieved? By playing the songs as ads, sometimes unskippable ads across a wide gamut of audiences. Also, do we need to remind people of the time when Badshah had to record a statement with the police for his involvement in a case of having fake social media followers?

It is funny when you find out that some of the best and the biggest hits are written with a different star cast in mind. Something similar has happened in the case of stalwart and Greek God Hrithik Roshan , who apparently rejected a lot of movies which went on to become big hits. Now obviously he had his own reasons and we aren’t discounting the fact the actors who eventually took that role did a fantastic job, but one can't help if he ever wondered later why he said no. here are 5 hits which were originally offered to him but were rejected by him:

    1. SwadesEven though the handsome actor joined hands with director Ashutosh Gowariker for Jodhaa Akbar, Hrithik has turned down Swades before SRK took it up. In an interview with TOI , he exclaimed , “I had read Ashutosh’s script for Swades. I couldn’t see it from the director’s perspective, and therefore didn’t think I was equipped to perform the part. I wasn’t the best person to translate Ashutosh’s vision. And this was right after Lagaan so when Ashutosh came to me I felt on top of the world. Swades is one of my favourite films. And Ashutosh is definitely one of my favourite filmmakers.” Well, we love his honesty TBH.

    2. Rang De BasantiRakeysh Om Prakash Mehra recently revealed that Aamir  had gone to visit Hrithik and convince him to take up this wonderful project. Hrithik was offered the role of Karan, which was later played by South star Siddharth.

    3. Main Hoon NaRumour has it that Hrithik turned down the role of Lakshman, which was later played by Zayed Khan because he found the character lacking depth and perhaps there wasn’t much to do for him. Well, Main Hoon Na would have been SO different if after K3G, we could witness the chemistry between him and SRK again.

    4. Dil Chahta HaiFarhan has been very open about how he faced a lot of casting issues with DCH because so many people had said no. while this movie was ahead of its time and continues to stay one of the best movies out there, Farhan revealed that Hrithik was offered the role of Sameer, which was eventually essayed by Saif Ali Khan. The duo eventually paired up for ZNMD as co-stars.

    5. Bunty Aur BabliNow you might think that the casting of this movie was perfect and we can't fathom anyone doing what Rani and Abhishek  did. However, according to IMDB, Hrithik had wrapped up Mujhse Dosti Karoge with YRF, which was a commercial dud. While the talks to rope him for Bunty Aur Babli were on, he apparently opted out of it. Abhishek later went on to be nominated for the ‘best actor’ role as well.
