Bollywood may fail terribly at making horror movies most times but it sure compensates with its spine-chilling thriller movies. You know you can count on Indian directors for a gripping storyline, startling revelations and twist endings with a side of jump scares all in one.Β
However, am I the only one who thinks movies from the 90s were way scarier and nail-biting than most movies today?

It could be because we were just a bunch of 8-10-year-olds when these movies came out and were too gullible to understand anything (also, easily surprised) or maybe, it’s because everything was better in the 90s, including the acting, stories and suspense.Β

There are some Bollywood thrillers of the 90s that we still can’t get over. We might have some really cool mystery thrillers and psychological thrillers today but they don’t even come close to the serial killer films of the 90s that kept us awake for numerous nights as kids.Β

Here are some 90s movies that definitely had better plot twists than most thrillers today that we can still rewatch with the same wide-eyed face:

    1. Mohra (1994) Β© Trimurti Films Pvt. Ltd.
Not just one, this movie is full of interesting twists and turns that will keep you hooked till the end.Β

This is one of those intelligent thriller movies that you can watch again and again without getting bored for even a second.Β
Naseeruddin Shah plays a blind businessman who gets Suniel Shetty out of jail and helps him. Later, a secret about Shah is revealed that we could never see coming (pun intended).
    2. Kaun? (1999) Β© Kshitij Production Combines
If you are a fan of movies that revolve around a serial killer and enjoy speculating β€˜Whodunit’, you cannot get anything better than Ram Gopal Varma’s Kaun.Β

All fingers point to the creepy Manoj Bajpai who could be killing people and barging into Urmila Matondkar’s house at nights, but turns out, he is innocent. The plot twist will blow your mind.Β  Β
    3. Khiladi (1992) Β© Trimurti Films
The lives of four friends take a deadly turn as they stage the kidnapping of one of them, but little did they know someone was two steps ahead and killed the girl who was pretending to be kidnapped.Β

The girl is dead now, which wasn’t in the plan and the prank has gotten terribly wrong. But who killed her and why? Try guessing as more twists are thrown at you.Β
    4. Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) Β© Venus Records & Tapes
There’s a love triangle, a murderer on the loose and the hero is convicted for killing his stepfather, which apparently he didn’t do.Β

If you thought things cannot get any more complicated than this, there’s a lot more going on in this movie that would keep you on the edge of your seat and in the end, you won’t be disappointed.Β  Β
    5. Sarfarosh (1999) Β© Cinematt Pictures
A film oscillating between nationalism, patriotism and love, Sarfarosh is a simple cop movie that has a better revelation and twist ending than any other recent thrillers.Β

Aamir Khan becomes a police officer to wipe out terrorists after he loses a close family member. The no-nonsense thriller ends with a shocking revelation of the antagonist and a nail-biting climax.Β

Having won the ODI series against Sri Lanka, head coach Rahul DravidΒ decided to make six changes in India’s Playing XI for the third and the final match against Sri Lanka.Β Β
Out of these six changes, five players were handed their ODI debut which became a huge talking point among fans and experts alike.Β
Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Krishnappa Gowtham, Rahul Chahar and Chetan Sakariya earned their ODI debut, while Navdeep Saini was the sixth change.Β

Reacting to the management’s decision, Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar said things have changed from back when they used to play.Β Β
He said that back in the day getting an India cap was not this easy as players were told they would get into the side only if they deserve the opportunity.Β

Β β€œSee, this is perhaps the new method. There was a time when players were told that you’ll get the India cap only if you deserve that. This perhaps is the new age and modern thinking where teams feel we have won the series already and why not give a chance to those who have warmed the bench so far,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak YouTube channel.Β
Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose eighth-wicket stand had guided India to a memorable win a few days back, were benched while all-rounder Hardik Pandya who has been a huge disappointment thus far was given yet another opportunity.
    Β© Twitter/BCCI
β€œThe management is of the opinion that there is only one player who has the capability. In the last two-three years, other players didn’t get the amount of chances they deserved. That’s why now we are looking towards only one player and talking about his form. Give Deepak Chahar a chance, he could be the answer,” he said, explaining why India have struggled to find another fast-bowling all-rounder.

Ayan Mukherji and Ranbir Kapoor are two best friends who managed to impress the entire world with their beautifully made movie Wake Up Sid. In 2014, Ayan decided to take a bigger risk and announced a sci-fi magnum opus called Brahmastra which was supposed to star his BFF Ranbir, Alia Bhatt and the legendary Big B in lead roles. It has been over 7 years and like a β€˜tareekh pe tareekh’ joke, the makers have been postponing the release of the film and looks like the post production is taking forever to complete.

    Β© Twitter
An old tweet from 2016 by trade analyst Taran Adarsh has gone viral with people demanding a Brahmastra update. Fans are mocking the delay and the memes around the same are hilarious.

Okay, so we've been hearing about #Brahmastra for 7 years now.
And guess what, we still DON'T know the exact release date. We don't even know whether film is complete or not. I just hope all the hardwork & wait pay off. #RanbirKapoor #AliaBhatt https://t.co/rm9qXTQTgs

β€” VΜΎ (@RKs_Tilllast) July 22, 2021The movie was finally supposed to release on Christmas 2019 but the makers pushed the date for the umpteenth time due to the Pandemic. The last schedule is yet to be shot in Budapest. Ranbir and Alia started dating while filming for this movie and looking at the pace of its non existent release date, seems like the couple will even tie the knot before we actually get to see them together on the big screen.Β

Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda’s latest offering 14 Phere explores the story of two lovers who are finding it hard to convince their parents for an inter-caste marriage. Sanjay (played by Vikrant) and Aditi (played by Kriti) meet during college, fall in love, and start living together.
As both their parents are completely against their union for their own reasons, they decided to come with a very different alternative. They decide to have two weddings with fake parents standing in for the real deal.

The film is already streaming on Zee5 platform and it seems like the movie couldn’t live up to people'sexpectations. People aren’t pleased with the movie as they felt the script is highly outdated. One of the users also had an issue with how the movie is mocking Hindu parents as it’s showing them as some kind of monsters who are against love marriages
    Here’s how they reacted:

Well, it’s open to perception and it’s better that people see the movie on their own to have a better perspective.
Before the release, Vikrant had said, β€œI fell in love with the script immediately and can’t wait for everyone to watch it.” Kriti also echoed similar emotions and said, β€œHalfway through reading the script I felt a range of emotions. I was so invested in Aditi and Sanjay and couldn’t wait to know what could happen next. The intrigue I felt, reassured me that it was a kickass script and would make for a super entertaining movie! It’s not just another wedding film, that’s for sure and I can’t wait for the audiences to witness the magic that is 14 Phere.”
Director Devanshu Singh said in a statement, β€œThis is a close-knit fun family film where you will see that bonding and emotional values are very important. The film celebrates the institution of family and marriage but questions a few basic flaws in a reasonable way. We are not trying to make fun of traditions and customs; in fact, you can watch this film with your entire family, and I am sure you will have a good time.”
Are you planning to watch it over the weekend?

A few years ago, I joined a new workplace. I was driven by excitement, passion and ambition in equal parts, however, over time, I was unable to muster up the energy to do my day to day duties.Β
It stemmed from the fact that I had been overworked for months at stretch, even working on weekends, without any rest. We were 24x7 at the disposal of the company and our clients. Saying yes to every project that came our way.Β
So, it wasn’t too long before my perennial exhaustion gave way to cynicism and I found myself demotivated to perform my tasks.
I realized this familiar feeling was something all my colleagues had been going through as well. Our once joyful faces had been replaced by persistently stressed expressions.Β
That’s when I stumbled upon the concept of burnout.Β
What Is BurnoutΒ Β When you’re stuck in a job that chronically overwhelms you to the point that you’re always exhausted, and you start detaching from your responsibilities as a way of dealing with this unaddressed stress, chances are you’re probably on your way to a burnout.Β
Here are 5 signs that show you might be experiencing burnout:Β
    1.Β  Always Exhausted Β© iStock
One of the first observable signs of burnout is perennial exhaustion.Β

While it’s normal to feel exhausted from time to time, if it becomes a constant state for you, chances are you’re not addressing certain issues causing you to feel this way.Β
    2. DemotivatedΒ  Β© iStock
Are there things that you once enjoyed doing but just can’t get yourself to do them anymore? A strong sense of demotivation usually accompanies burnout.Β

3.Β Bad Lifestyle Habits Β© iStock
Sometimes, when stress at work gets to us, we resort to various coping mechanisms like binging on junk foods, coffee, alcohol, and even narcotic substances.Β

Naturally, our sleep pattern gets impacted as well. The influence of stress on poor lifestyle habits is grave and should be carefully considered.
    4. IsolationΒ  Β© iStock
You find yourself to be more comfortable when alone, after all, you feel like no one else can really relate to you anymore. Or you just want to avoid all social contact.Β

This can often lead to you being angry and irritated when someone tries to communicate with you. This happens because socialising now makes you anxious.Β
    5. Pessimism & Self Doubt Β© iStock
Do you have constantly negative self-talk going on when it comes to your work?Β

Looking forward to the weekend is normal, but if somehow, you feel the only time you can escape these negative thoughts, that are pessimistic in nature, are on the weekends, then there are chances that your work might be causing you to be burnt out.Β
If your work isn’t fulfilling, and you feel the only parts of it that you associate with are related to low productivity and poor performance, then it’s time to consider having a conversation with yourself about your long term goals and the benefits of staying at your current job.Β
We often put in long hours and keep ourselves chronically busy to fill a hole in our lives. Don’t fall into that trap.
