Unpopular opinion: long-distance relationships do work.
Yes, it is tough to maintain healthy communication, trust your partner all the time and keep the spark alive when you two are away most days, but that doesn’t mean that your relationship is doomed or you need to be together 24/7 to make it work.
    © Rochak Kohli
You can still do stuff together and make sure you're in each other’s lives even if you are miles apart.

This isn’t 1950 and you can be there for your bae digitally and make them feel special and loved. Plus, you can plan fun virtual date nights and show them you care with sweet gestures to keep the relationship interesting.

Here are a few things you can do together while you are away to keep your LDR as fun as it gets:

    1. Binge-Watch Together © iStock
Rewatch your favourite rom-com together or the one you watched on your movie date and laugh about all the things that happened that night.

You can also start a new series that has been on both of your watchlists and discuss the characters, plot twists and your fantasies related to the scenes you like.
    2. Play A Drinking Game © iStock
The beauty of playing a drinking game with your partner is that you don’t necessarily have to be together and still, the fun isn’t compromised.

This could be a really interesting virtual date night idea where you two could play games like ‘Never Have I Ever’ to know more about each other or a kinky game to spice up your relationship. The only rules are there are no rules.
    3. Write A Love Note © iStock
It doesn’t have to be an old school love letter written by hand and sent by mail.

You can pen down your feelings, best memories together and how much you admire and miss them, in your phone and send them while you are on a Skype call, so you can see them smile and melt at your words as they read it.
    4. Send Them A Care Package  © iStock
Nothing says ‘I care for you’ better than a care package with all the things your SO loves.

It could be snacks, stationery, cute knick-knacks, skincare or anything that your partner is into.
You can order their favourite things and write something flirty or romantic with it so they get your love with the care package.
    5. Make A Bucket List  © iStock
Make a list of things you will do together when you do get to meet each other after being apart for so long.

You can plan a vacation or make a whole itinerary of how you will spend your time together the day you two have an actual date.
Or better yet, skip that and pay them a spontaneous visit. They will absolutely love it.

The thing about our country is that it is knee-deep in a pool of stereotypes, orthodox traditions and customs most of which pull it decades back when it comes to being progressive.
Which is why, on the rare occasion that someone tries to break past them and normalize what the society may have termed taboo, we are more than happy to cheer them on.
    © Emaar Films International
And even though the film at hand here, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, promised to help educate as well normalize the society towards surrogacy, it ended up doing something else entirely. Which was to misinform and reduce women to baby-making machines.

    © Emaar Films International
You see, back in 2001, the concept of using a surrogate mother in cases where the woman can’t conceive, would neither be understood nor entertained. But after the movie was released, nothing changed apart from the fact that people hated surrogacy more.

    Why, you ask? Read on...
    © Emaar Films International
The movie starts with a basic introduction to Raj and Priya’s characters played by Salman Khan and Rani Mukherjee, respectively. The two are happily married and living in a joint family, one which inhabits a grandson-obsessed grandfather who can’t stop pestering Priya for a kid.

    © Emaar Films International
Being the ideal daughter in-law she is, she complies, gets pregnant, only to have a miscarriage and find out she cannot conceive.

    © Emaar Films International
The doctor advises the couple to opt for surrogacy and not tell the family about Priya not being able to conceive. Why? Because apparently an infertile woman = bad wife = bad daughter in law = shame on the family.

    © Emaar Films International
Now at this point, you’d assume that the couple would go through a procedure of sorts to opt for surrogacy.

But nope, not even caring to get their facts right about what it actually means - an assisted birth where the intended parents work with another woman who agrees to carry their child in her womb through means of artificial insemination, Raj and Priya assume it requires forming sexual relations instead and shake on it. How, or why? It’s beyond us...
    © Emaar Films International
After Raj inappropriately asks every other woman he meets to become the surrogate, the desperate couple settles on a prostitute to become their surrogate because this movie is all about feeding into existing stereotypes anyway.

Madhu aka Priety Zinta agrees to do it in exchange for money and is flown to Switzerland with the couple to be “groomed” which is code for being impregnated by Raj.
    © Emaar Films International
After several failed attempts, Priya finally manages to isolate both Madhu and Raj in a room, drugs her own husband and leads him to have *** with Madhu in order to get her pregnant.

Now, while the movie may call this surrogacy, we can only it a very weird fetish of wanting your husband to have *** with a woman of your choosing.
    © Emaar Films International
Madhu gets pregnant, Raj and Priya lie to their family to say Priya has gotten pregnant again and everything is going according to plan.

At one point, Raj’s perverted friend nearly molests Madhu because he knows she was a prostitute and assumes that *** workers are DTF any second of any day, consent be damned. Of course Raj steps in, beats the friend, saves Madhu and in turn, Madhu falls in love with Raj.
    © Emaar Films International
Raj and Priya’s family, in the meantime, surprise them by coming to Switzerland and also finding a very pregnant Madhu living with them, who is introduced as their friend. The family decides to take care of Madhu as well as Priya, since both are pregnant and even decides to throw a baby shower for Priya back in India.

    © Emaar Films International
Things hit the fan when Priya decides to send Madhu to the baby shower as herself by covering her face with a ghoonghat.

The entire experience, hospitality, love, care and attention makes Madhu emotional, as she realises she can’t give up her baby anymore for she’s grown attached to it. The only emotion that ACTUALLY does occur during a lot of surrogacies and was shown right in the film.
    © Emaar Films International
Madhu flees from the house, dumping all of the money offered to her on the bed, only to be confronted by a very frantic Priya at a train station, where the climax takes place.

As the women argue where Priya begs for the baby and Madhu refuses to give it up, Priya slaps Madhu as soon as she admits to having fallen in love with Raj. Because apparently, that was inappropriate and not forcing your husband to sleep with a hooker.
    © Emaar Films International
By the time Raj arrives for damage control, Madhu has gone into labour and taken to the hospital where the doctor says only one out of the two can be saved - either the child or the mother. Priya chooses to save Madhu.

But because it is a Bollywood film where happy endings are as important as having an item number, both the mother and the baby survive.
    © Emaar Films International
Madhu is touched by Priya’s kindness and gives up her child to the couple, while the extended family is lied to again as they’re told Madhu’s child was stillborn.

Madhu promises to not go back to prostitution and bids a happy goodbye to Raj, who sensed that she loved him.
    © Emaar Films International
All in all, people would call this movie an emotional roller-coaster and a crash course in surrogacy. But only in the way that it actually crashed and burned on the concept, because whatever the f**k it was, it wasn’t surrogacy. If anything, it was a rather weird and unusual case of throupling.

    © Emaar Films International
Not to forget the entire plot that furthered the problematic stereotype of deeming women good and ideal ONLY if they’re able to give the family a child.

    The End.

Long before cinema became experimental and various genres erupted, the scope of movie making in the 90s was restricted to makers directing movies which catered to a particular family crowd mostly. Even though today we have an insane variety on OTT, there are some cult movies which defined the way we perceived Bollywood while growing up. Here are 7 movies which are basically an emotion for us:

    1. Hum Saath Saath HainEven today, if this movie is played on TV, chances are you will stop and watch it, with every scene rolling in your mind. For anyone who grew up in a big joint family, this movie signified the love, the fun and the memories attached to playing around with so many cousins, attending so many weddings and having many uncles and aunts who never left a chance to pamper us.

    2. Andaz Apna ApnaComedy in the 90’s had a benchmark of this movie, which was simple and humorous. One can watch this repeatedly and yet never get bored.

    3. RangeelaThis was a movie which was ahead of its times. A beautiful Urmila who changed how fashion was perceived for the modern Indian girl and the hook step to the title track was something we all tried to learn.

    4. Dil Toh Pagal HaiBefore KKHH explained to us that ‘pyar dosti hai’, this movie had already established that love can exist in many forms and friendship is one pure version of it. Also, how can you forget the iconic dance duet between Karisma and Madhuri which lit the screens on fire.

    5. Jo Jeeta Wohi SikandarA super sexy Pooja Bedi straight out of Marilyn Monroe dreams, a clichéd character of Aamir Khan representing how class difference influences a student’s personality and oh, Pehla Nasha, the song which continues to jog our memories when we think of a song about our first junior school crush.

    6. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge“Jaa Simran Ja, jee le apni zindagi”, DDLJ gave us hope that true love will happen when we grow up. It lit up dreams of European vacations, eating ice cream in the snow, catching a train by holding a good looking stranger’s hand, and that mandoline will play every time we fall in love.

    7. BorderYou were probably only 6 or 7 years old when this movie ended up lighting a fire of patriotism in you and you caught yourself dreaming of joining the Army. This movie and its soundtrack continues to give us goosebumps.

Not just a prolific director in Bollywood, but Karan Johar is known to be a gamechanger in the fashion landscape as well.
He's a style maven and owns the room with his outstanding fashion sense. For KJo, there's no word like minimalism, as he always dabbles in over the top silhouettes.
Karan has plausibly done it all, from wearing sneakers made of metallic pieces to making a statement with expensive, giant sneakers.
    © Viral Bhayani
    © Dolce & Gabbana
Karan is seen carrying a Dolce & Gabbana backpack. This denim patchwork backpack is a statement piece and is inspired by Italian architecture.

It has tonal blue shades with leather trims for durability. The shoulder straps are adjustable, and the zipped pockets add to the practicality.
    © Gucci
Coming to the other details of his look, even the shirt is from Dolce & Gabbana and costs Rs 1,36,447. He has paired it with Gucci Joggers and Balenciaga Metallic sneakers.

Overall, the cost of these two items sums to Rs 1,56,000.
We are easily looking at an ensemble worth almost Rs 4 Lakhs, guys. Looks like we're about to cry our eyes out after seeing this cost and matching our bank balance with it!

Cricket is a gentleman’s game -- this is the most common definition we all hear many experts and fans use while describing the sport to someone who is new to it. In present-day and age, this definition holds no relevance as cricket is no more a 'gentleman’s game'.
There have been numerous instances when players’ on-field behaviour has made us wonder if we can continue to use this popular definition or not.
Not just during international matches, this has been the case at almost all levels -- be it local club cricket or local gully cricket, players losing their temper has become a common occurrence.

Something similar happened during a charity match that was a part of a tournament organised at Mote Park Cricket Club in Maidstone to raise funds for those in need of medical treatment in Pakistan.

The irony was that the shocking incident happened at an event that was meant to raise funds for the medical treatment of people in Pakistan.
The players who came together for a wonderful cause made a mockery of human lives by attacking each other with bats and stumps.

The match was apparently played between Pakistani and Afghan nationals and tempers ran through the roof and players showed no regard for each other and the match had to be abandoned after the violent conduct of the players.
Sharing the video of the shocking incident on the micro-blogging site, a Pakistani journalist tweeted: “Disgraceful scenes during a charity match which had to be abandoned after a fight between the two teams. — CricTroll (@CricTroll1) July 20, 2021Watching the clash get intense, several women, perhaps the family members who had come to watch the match, rushed to the ground but even they couldn’t stop the fight.
The incident left several players injured but that didn’t stop people on social media from laughing at their expense.
Pointing out the irony, some joked they had come to raise money for medical treatment but who knew they would have to spend it on their own treatments, while others said the only good thing to come out of this was that they wouldn't be having any shortage of funds.

She is a charmer and doesn’t need words to show her emotions on the screens because her expressions do the magic. She is beautiful, speaks from her heart, and has given us roles that made us look up to her. We are talking about the one and only Vidya Balan who has the power to lift your spirits up with a simple conversation.
Vidya’s short film Natkhat is among the Indian films that are in the race for Oscars 2021 in the Best Short Film (Live Action) category. She hasn’t only played the lead character in the movie but is also one of the producers of the movie. Well, I was lucky enough to watch the movie before it releases on VOOT as part of a film festival on the OTT platform with many more short films releasing in the near future.
    View this post on Instagram
The short movie might have a run time of just 33 minutes but is so powerful that it leaves you unsettled because the director Shaan Vyas and Vidya Balan have explored so many talking points mainstream cinema steers clear of. From domestic violence to child abuse, the movie shows a mother teaching a lesson to her son about the rigid patriarchal notions that he doesn’t have to follow and how to treat a woman right.
I got a chance to talk to Vidya Balan where we talked about her character in Natkhat, how patriarchal mindset and misogyny are normalized in an Indian household, and much more.
Here are excerpts from my interaction with her:
I just saw the film Natkhat and I had goosebumps while watching it. Did you also have goosebumps while you were reading the script as on paper it might have been a bit different?
It was extremely powerful and I was amazed that Shaan Vyas had chosen to tell this as a short film because it’s like a punch on your gut. Today after watching the movie, I am glad that he presented it as a short film because it may have been too much to take as a full feature-length movie. He has managed to tell the story within those 33 minutes without compromising any elements which is truly commendable.
    View this post on Instagram
While watching the movie, I also realized how toxicity has been naturalized in Indian households. In one of the sequences, your character is seen serving chapatis to men, hidden behind the ‘ghoonghat’. What’s your take on that?
It’s normalized to such an extent that we don’t even realize there could be any other possibility. We don’t even realize how deep-rooted this patriarchal mindset and misogyny is. That shot at the dining table is one of my favorite shots because you only see men chomping on their food and their moustaches. It’s staged perfectly.
There’s this one thing that hit me real hard watching the movie that how a child is taking the wrong inspiration from the men and is implementing it in his real life. What do you have to say about it?
It’s high time that we realize that children learn by example and not by instruction. You can tell the child to do the right thing but if you aren’t doing it by yourself, he or she will not do it because children mimic the behaviour of the elders. What also makes you uncomfortable while watching the movie is this innocent child saying, ‘ladki agar tang kare toh usko uthwado’ and it’s a big thing but he is not realising the gravity of it. He has heard adults talk like that.
    View this post on Instagram
One more thing I really liked was how the director has beautifully weaved the story of King Rudra and Urmi into the narrative so that you can make the child understand the point. It somewhere sets the example for new moms on how to teach their sons to respect women.
I think storytelling is so powerful and you do get impacted by stories. This is why we narrate stories to our children and if you can make your child think differently through a story, isn’t that amazing? She (Vidya’s character Surekha) is talking to the child through a story so that he can understand because he likes to listen to stories every night. She chooses to tell this particular story because that would change his outlook and his attitude does change. I feel she feels powerless to change her own situation so she wants to make sure that her son doesn’t turn out like the men in her life.
As you said she is powerless but in the end, you see her removing all the scars from her face. How do you see your character’s journey?
She is trying to very subtly tell her child that if you hurt another woman, ‘I get hurt’. Therefore, when she realizes that he has understood the moral of the story and he is a changed child, she chooses to remove all her scars. Well, the scars are still there beneath her makeup as you can see little white makeup patches where she had bruises. He thinks his mother isn’t getting hurt for the child as he is on the right path. Hopefully, the child will someday give her the strength to fight the domestic abuse at her home. Her context is different from me and you, but what’s empowering is that she had the strength to change her child's attitude.

We have been talking about the child in the movie and I want to say that your camaraderie with the child artist is simply beautiful. It made me wonder that if you have a son, he is going to learn a lot from you.
Thank you (laughs). Do you know that Sonu (child artist) has been played by a girl called Sanika? She is adorable and I also forgot that she is a girl on the set because we kept calling her Sonu. What an actor!

Vidya, you did so well with Sherni but people found it slow and didn’t understand the undertones in the movie that had a powerful message. How do you handle this negativity and criticism?

Firstly, I am grateful for all the love that has come my way. If there’s an audience of 100, not all 100 are going to like it and you can only hope that 80 will like it. That’s exactly what happened with Sherni. This is the way that the director chose to tell the story. It’s his conviction and he was true to it.
When you were doing Kahaani, we met and I remember we were discussing the fact that we need to have more women-centric narratives and the change had just begun. Now, there’s a clear shift as there are more and more movies on women characters. What do you want to say about this gradual but certain shift that has happened over the years?
It’s only getting better and I am so thrilled. There is a wide variety of female roles that are being written and then made into films. You are seeing various aspects of women being captured on celluloid. It’s not a unidimensional woman that’s being portrayed on the screen. I think we are finally being treated as human beings and are being accepted for our flaws. We are awesome women, with our flaws.
    View this post on Instagram
You have done many characters in your cinematic career. Which is the character that you felt was the most powerful and you took back the shades of that character home?
Honestly, I would feel that I am being unfair if I did that. But, I think every character does leave you with something. It leaves an impact on you and sometimes even changes your outlook. It’s like when you spend time with a person, the interaction that you had with him or her does leave an impact.
Before I go, I want to know what you are taking back from Natkhat.
For me, the most beautiful part of the movie was when Surekha tells Sonu that we all are the children of the same God. I have been brought up with this belief but this film reminded me of that.

We wish Vidya all the best for her upcoming release and really wish that she keeps inspiring us with her characters in the future.

It’s pegged as one of the most profound and exhilarating experiences, something that people say ends up making them feel out of this world.
And while it may be all that and more for most people out there, there are also some who don’t feel as excited thinking about ***, as they feel scared.
Now, this isn’t the ‘how will it feel’ or ‘I am nervous’ kind of a scare, but a fear that almost stops you in your tracks to go further. We are talking about sexual phobias which are known to be a genuine phenomenon, making *** look not just intimidating but also frightening.
Just like how certain people fear the dark, there are a select few who fear what is usually done in the dark, if you know what I mean...
    © iStock
And since you can’t really explain the fear or where it’s stemming from, only people who experience it can relate to the feeling.

Here are some of the most uncanny sexual phobias that people may have:
    1. Genophobia © iStock
This is the fear of having sexual intercourse.

People having this phobia might feel comfortable in getting intimate, even making out, but as soon as things would escalate towards a home run, they’d rather run back home. Indulging in penetrative *** is what scares them.
    2. Gymnophobia © iStock
People having gymnophobia have a fear of shedding their clothes in front of anyone, because nudity makes them deeply uncomfortable.

Whether it’s them taking their clothes off or their partner, the act of being naked scares them.
    3. Erotophobia © iStock
This is a broader phobia on the list, one which has people fearing the entire topic and act of having ***.

For them, even the thought, people and conversation of doing it creates fear in their head, leading them to abstain from it altogether.
    4. Chiraptophobia © iStock
People who experience Chiraptophobia have a fear of being touched. And that doesn’t just mean sexually or intimately, but sometimes even a casual brush, or a pat on the back will make them scared and anxious.

    5. Phallophobia © iStock
As the name suggests, this means having a phobia of a *****. And before you wonder, yes men and women both can experience it.

Women would feel scared touching or even seeing a ***** while men may fear getting an erection because an erect ***** might irk them.
    6. Eurotophobia © iStock
This one means having a fear of the vagina, and just like phallophobia, this also is common with both men and women.

Women and men having this phobia would be afraid to touch or indulge in anything sexual related to the vagina.
    7. Philemaphobia © iStock
Even though all phobias are described as being irrational, and they are too, this one is still pretty understandable.

Philemaphobia means having a phobia of kissing for the fear of transferring/contracting germs. Although the fear only restricts them from the act of kissing and not indulging in ***.
    8. Medomalacuphobia © iStock
This means having a fear of losing an erection, a phobia that many men suffering from erectile dysfunction also have.

In this case, men tend to experience very high anxiety and performance pressure that leads them to start fearing losing an erection during ***.
    9. Agoraphobia © iStock
This phobia is a kind of an anxiety disorder under which a person may fear getting into a situation that will make them feel entrapped, threatened, helpless or embarrassed.

A phobia that often develops in sexual abuse victims too, people suffering from this tend to avoid any situation or places that will make them feel compromised.
    10. ParthenophobiaA rather unusual and less heard kind of a phobia, this one is when people have a fear of young girls, especially if they are virgins.
Living up to the irrationality bit of it, this phobia makes it hard for people to even go outside without anxiety of coming near young girls.
