One of the most controversial cricket analysts of India, Sanjay Manjrekar has finally shared his thoughts on one of the biggest problems that the Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri overlooked while preparing the roster for the World Test Championship final which led to the sudden downfall of the team at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl cricket ground.
According to Manjrekar, the addition of Ravindra Jadeja in the Playing XI for the final against New Zealand was an incorrect decision. The all-rounder picked a solitary wicket while scoring 15 and 16 runs in the first and second innings respectively, as the Men in Blue struggled to build a decent team total and ended up losing the match and the WTC Mace by 8 wickets.

"If you have to look at how India went about before the game started, picking two spinners was always a debatable selection especially when the conditions were overcast and the toss was delayed by a day. They picked one player for his batting, which was Jadeja, and his left-arm spin wasn't the reason he was picked. He was picked for his batting and that is something that I am always against," Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.
"You have got to pick specialist players in the team and if they felt that the pitch was dry and turning, they would have picked Jadeja for his left-arm spin, along with Ashwin, that would have made sense. But they picked him for his batting and I think that backfired as mostly it does."

A look back at the past three years of Ravindra Jadeja’s batting career would show why Kohli’s decision to pick him primarily as a batsman made sense on the paper. The south-paw has averaged over 50 with the bat while working to make his bowling more effective too.
But thanks to the wind, cloud overcast, and humility, which made the situation a lot more pace and swing friendly, having Jadeja’s talents as a spinner left Manjrekar a little bitter in the mouth.

"But I hope India don't do what England have historically done, pick somebody because there is another strength that they have and that strength might just come to good use, but very rarely it does when it's a pressure game."

The rules were simple, clearly laid out and very different for my brother and I all the while we were growing up. While my brother was expected to be strong, independent, blunt, less vain and career driven, I was expected to be polite, amicable, obedient and nurturing. It took me a while to realise that the only reason driving such bias was not based on how much or less my parents loved me. But on the simple fact that I was born a girl and he, a boy.
And even though I spent most of my childhood reaching to fill the gap and bickering about all that my parents would allow my brother to do in a split second, be it taking trips, staying out till late at night, having a drink or two at home, but never me. I have come to realise that despite being able to do so much that I couldn’t, there was a lot more that he wasn’t allowed to do.
These were the things that actually mattered, the ones he truly yearned for but was never shown approval towards. These were the things that would call him feminie. But the real question is, why do feminine traits have to take away from one’s manhood rather than adding to it?
Here are 5 such qualities that men are often shamed for, but need to be normalised.

‘Men don’t cry’, ‘Don’t be such a *****’, ‘Quit acting like a girl’, seemingly casual yet pretty damaging comments that are often hurled at men for simply being human. Thanks to society and its belief about men having to be strong at all times, it has nearly made it impossible for men to show their emotional quotient without the fear of being shamed for it.

For the longest time, beauty and cosmetics have been associated with just women. Any man who even dared to fall out of line and showed interest in beauty was often deemed either ‘gay’ or a disgrace to men and the likes of them. Yet again taking away from men the right to practice and experience beauty.

Being Interested In Fashion © iStock
One of the most believed and circulated stereotypes in the fashion industry is that the men part of it are lady-like. Not only is fashion in general associated with the female gender, but men who even take a slight interest in the field are shamed for possessing ladylike qualities and interests.

Owing to the social image of a man that society has created in our heads, an ideal man must be strong and together at every point in his life. So much so that even a slight detour from acting unassailable, to show compassion or empathy to someone ends up in them being called ‘soft’ and ‘girly’.

A quality that essentially should be mandatory to possess, is infact often used to diss men for being less manly. Instead of being looked at as someone who is secure, full of integrity and has the courage to stand up for a cause, being feminist comes at the cost of being called feminine by men.

A couple of days after the Indian cricket team lost the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 20-day break for the Men in Blue, ahead of the five-Test series versus Joe Root’s English side.
According to a BCCI official in a PTI report, the Indian team has decided to go on a 20-day break with some stars looking to attend the Wimbledon, while others hoping to get tickets to the Euro Cup.

"Some of them are tennis fans and if Wimbledon allows spectators, you might see them going for some of the show court matches. A few might be checking out if tickets for the Euro games at Wembley are available," the source said.
However, not everyone was completely at peace with the Indian cricket board’s decision to allow some personal time to the athletes and their family members, especially after the rather eye-opening defeat they incurred at the hands of Kane Williamson’s Black Caps at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl cricket ground.
Aish karo masti maaro. No remorse nothing. Why can't they practice for the England series, play some County cricket.

Have fun with your wives around United Kingdom
    — Bigg Bogus 🤪 (@dhruvzz_dhruva) June 24, 2021Wtf they need a break so as they secured a great victory....they didn't even play competitive except some of the players...anyway atleast we must win england series
    — csk fan (@JusticeListen) June 24, 2021Not my team. Shame on You BCCI
    — Virat Fan (@Kohli_One8) June 24, 2021Shameless people and then will perform terribly in England series.
    — Rock (@Rock22386287) June 24, 2021The WTC final was clearly one-sided and the Kiwis were clearly the better team during the six days on which the match was played and there is no denying that fact. Considering the rainy conditions on Day 1 and 3 of the one-off Test cricket, it was rather unfortunate that someone like Bhuvneshwar Kumar wasn’t present in the Indian locker room, who could have used the wind to swing the ball however he wanted.
On the other hand, a total collapse of the middle order in both first and second innings didn’t help their case while attempting to make a decent total to protect. Unfortunately, a shocking final day debacle by the Indian batters led to an unexpected loss for the Men in Blue and New Zealand became the inaugural winners of the World Test Championship.

Thankfully, there were some other sympathetic fans who agreed that the Indian cricketers deserved this break considering the kind of loss they just had to face and some time away from the game might help them recover mentally and get back to the ground with a refreshed mind.
You say you aren't a human ,if you had a bad day at office you try to relax and get back to work fresh ,not work continuously even when it is a bad day
    — Kandregula Pranav Sashank (@pranav_sashank) June 24, 2021India will be in a long bio bubble, for 2 months. They are humans too and need a mental break, after the heartbreaking WTC loss. The 1st test will be after 40 days.
    — sohom (@AwaaraHoon) June 24, 2021People will want them to go in depression after Final Lose. No doubt they lost but I m sure players will understand and know what's better for them.
    — Awarapan 🇮🇳 (@KingSlayer_Rule) June 24, 2021Hmm, let them enjoy.
Those abusing, get a life. These guys stay away from homes literally whole year...
    — ៚⃟།།᭄𓆩ƳƲƘƬƖ𓆪།᭄⃟៚ (@XxItzUrHarIeyxX) June 24, 2021At the end of the break, the entire cricketing squad will reunite in London on July 14, before traveling to Nottingham to start their preparations for the England series.
