The state of Indian media houses isn’t exactly pristine. Often referred to as Godi Media or Lutyens Media, depending on whom you’re speaking to, there is a clear lack of objectivity, nuance, common sense, and sometimes, even basic decency.

Remember the entire fiasco over the coverage of a Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide?

Well, it turns out, that wasn’t the lowest point for some media outlets.

Anand Bazar Patrika’s television news outlet, or ABP news as it is popularly called, recently aired a special graphics package that they had prepared to cover the results of the Bengal State Elections.

    Insensitivity at it’s peak @ABPNews pic.twitter.com/Vbdt4J4jbZ
    — Saloni Gaur (@salonayyy) May 2, 2021
As per the narrative that ABP News’ anchor, was trying to create, the seats in Bengal would be equivalent to “Oxygen.” They even referred to it as “Seaton Ki Oxygen.” If that wasn’t tasteless enough, given the current situation across India, wherein we are facing one of the worst medical crises ever, the graphics package pushed things over the edge.
As per the package, the “oxygen” or seats were being delivered using a C-17 Globemaster aircraft, from which descended a tanker truck, transporting the oxygen.
The reason why this comes across as insensitive and tasteless is manifold, but more than anything else, it is a mockery of the situation that thousands, if not millions of families in India, are going through, right now. It is also an insensitive mockery of the aids that we are being given by other countries.
And trust us, we aren’t alone in saying this. Several people on Twitter agree.
People don't care about your Globemaster and oxygen tanks. You should deregister as a news channel and reregister as a comedy channel for this atrocity @TRAI please take legal action against @ABPNews for hijacking a national tragedy for entertainment purposes.
    — AskHemu (@AskHemu) May 2, 2021@LiveLawIndia @Lawctopus @UN @WHO @milindrunning @SonuSood @KumariRukshmani @pbhushan1 @BDUTT supreme of india must take suo moto action on this anchor and @ABPNews for making fun of the deaths in the country and playing with the sentiments of people on this sensitive issue.
    — Shivpreet Warring (@shivpreet81) May 2, 2021Can we just call it tasteless?
Unbelievable ! Sorry @ABPNews, this is not creative. This is highly insensitive.

    महामारी के दर्द की कोई उपयोगिता नहीं हो सकती. ये तो बिल्कुल नहीं कि उससे जुड़े डरावने शब्द और उपमाएं राजनीतिक रिपोर्टिंग के काम आएं.
    — Kuldeep Mishra (@kuldeepmishra) May 2, 2021
    Seriously, what were they thinking?
I wonder what kind of people are getting paid to create this stupid content
    Fire them.
    Hire better people.
    — The Night King (@Apocalyptosis) May 2, 2021The most reprehensible news channel. Please fire the producer, director and the newscaster for their insensitive coverage. While the country is battling to breathe, they trivialise this issue in this manner. #epicfail #FacePalm
    — Ryan Alan Marshall (@sportkrzyprdude) May 2, 2021When you learn from the best PR agency which is ruling this country now, these things are normal. They'd do anything to use for their TRPs
    — Broombastic (@broombastiq) May 2, 2021True...
A brain full of filth, blinded by the greed for TRP
    — Andrabi Syed Midhat #maskupplz (@AndrabiMidhat) May 2, 2021
This is actually a good plan...
Instead of just liking or retweeting your tweet can't we in large numbers report these third-class journalism to a relevant authority? @PressCouncil_IN - as a citizen of India I would like to raise my complaint against this insensitive and inhuman journalism
    — Ashish (@wasp_asd) May 2, 2021
What do you guys think, did this graphics package cross a certain line that shouldn’t have been crossed? Can you think of other instances where Media Outlets went too far? Let us know in the comments below.

No matter how stringently the government and local police forces impose a curfew of lockdown to get the pandemic under control, some people just can’t stay at home. They just have to step out, for some reason or the other.

    © BCCL
Well, on the occasion of World Laughter Day, the Mumbai Police put up some of the excuses that they have had to listen to when dealing with people who broke the curfew. And boy oh boy, are they hilarious.

The first excuse reads as follows: -
    © Instagram/mumbaipolice
We just have one question. What sort of an “emergency” needs just one band-aid. More to that, what medical emergency needs band-aids?

    © Instagram/mumbaipolice
Well, this guy needed remotes for a match featuring Mumbai.

    © Instagram/mumbaipolice
    This one seems legit, right?

And this man has got his priorities on point.
    © Instagram/mumbaipolice
I mean, nothing, and we mean absolutely nothing compared to a good ol’ paan, right? And how can one even think of putting on a mask, while chewing a pan?

And finally, what better excuse than food. That too a delish vada pav.
    © Instagram/mumbaipolice
The funniest bit, though, was how the post revealed that these are in fact what people have actually said. The caption for the post reads -

“All the characters and events depicted are real. Any resemblance to a person living or dead is purely intentional.”
Seriously, the people in charge of the Mumbai Police’s Social Media handles deserve recognition, and if possible, a solid raise. Just recently, on 20th April (read it ‘4:20’), they put up a rather dope post.
People had some hilarious reactions to this post as well.
    Always bang on @MumbaiPolice
    Thanks for making me smile

Why can't we keep such people in police custody for at least 24 hours? Merely penalising with fine is not going to blow some sense in the mind of such people.

Well, this one turned the other way rather quickly...

In all seriousness though, do stay at home if you're healthy, and only step outside only if it is absolutely necessary.

It has been eight years since the iconic show, “The Office” aired its final episode, but so far people still cannot seem to get enough of it. Fans of the mockumentary sitcom still watch the episodes repeatedly to relive hilarious moments from the show, especially surrounding the goofy, hard not-to-like boss at the Scranton-based Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Michael Scott.

While the overly dramatic, the attention-loving boss made us laugh with and at him over the years, there are reasons to believe that he was actually a true desi parent in disguise.

    © Amazon Prime
    1. MICHAEL LOVES DIWALIDesi parents are big on Diwali! And they are not, I repeat, not afraid to show it to the world. This obviously includes their kids who must follow the protocol of being dressed in a traditional kurta-pajama, while also abiding by the religious ceremonies.
    © Amazon Prime
Well, Michael Scott was no different. In the Diwali episode of the series, not only does the boss invoke his inner “Hindu spirit” by encouraging his entire office staff to take part in the festivities for their Indian colleague Kelly Kapoor, but he also ends up dancing to the groove of Bollywood music, and munching on a Samosa, the most popular desi snack EVER.

If that was not all, he also ends up discussing marriage with Kelly’s actual desi parents. Isn’t that what all desi parents do? Have a Diwali party only to end up talking about marriage while gulping down Samosas. Well, Michael, you are a true desi parent.
    2. LIKE YOUR DESI PARENTS, MICHAEL CHOOSES TO BE “A LITTLE STITIOUS”Ever seen a black cat cross your path, a diya go off, or a glass bowl shattering on hitting the floor while you are doing something and your parents go like, Abort Mission! Abort Mission!!
Well, guess what? The spirit animal of a desi parent found a new home in Pennsylvania’s most adored boss, Michael Scott.
As if we did not have enough hilarious Michael Scott quotes to lead our lives by, the Dunder Mifflin Regional Manager came up with an absolute banger during the fourth season of the Fun Run episode, when he said:
    https://68.media.tumblr.com/602d0a45c2d67b358b196f50092104e8/tumblr_on3pitShzX1um2igbo2_r1_540.gif

A computer crash, the death of Angela’s cat ‘Sprinkles’, and a car hitting Meredith (driven by Michael himself. Ouch!) was all it took for Michael to believe that his entire office was cursed. Well, checking from the symptoms, Michael, we believe you have been diagnosed with being an ideal desi parent.
    3. MICHAEL HATES LIKE A TRUE DESI PARENT:Neighbors are an important element of our Indian society. Apart from occasionally asking for “ek chammach cheeni or ek cup doodh”, they are Desi parents’ partners in crime for everything, be it gossiping, evening walks, or whatnot.

However, if a neighbor gets on the wrong side of a Desi parent, there’s no turning back. Unfortunately for Toby Flenderson, the divorced HR representative of Dunder Mifflin, he is that one neighbor that Michael loves to hate. And he has a reason for it.

    https://relatablefriends.tk/post/139377772055/michael-vs-toby
Seems like Michael really “hates him like he loves him” (Delhi Belly, anyone? No? urgh, fine).
    4. MICHAEL BELIEVES IN INTERNET SCAMS, JUST LIKE YOUR MUM:Ever had your mummy or papa come up to you in the morning, saying that you are finally rich because they received an email or Whatsapp forward stating that they’ve won a lottery?
To be fair to desi parents all over, you are not alone as Michael Scott too is a huge believer in internet scams, so much so, that he ended up losing out a ton of money in a scam. However, he did have a hilarious badass reply to it.

    5. LIKE DESI PARENTS, HE REFUSES TO UNDERSTAND:Remember the good times when you would have a heated argument with your parents and they would agree to understand your point? Yeah, neither do we.
One of the most common reasons why your average Indian friend has had to cancel his or her Goa ka plan is because parents ‘nahi maan rahe’. Well, is there a logical reason for it? No.
It is just because after a certain point, your desi parents choose to channelize their inner Michael Scott by saying,

OTT platforms became a huge hit in the last couple of years but weren't as popular. Thanks to the lockdown in 2020 and then again in 2021, these OTT platforms have now become a saviour.
While these platforms have been a boon for the new talents, some of the senior actors too carved a niche for themselves through digital means. These actors probably didn't have a good run in Bollywood but OTT platforms did give a boost to their careers.
Let's take a look at the Indian actors who shoneQ on OTT platforms.
    1. Pankaj Tripathi © Instagram/Pankaj Tripathi
Pankaj Tripathi indubitably tops the list. The actor ventured into Bollywood with the movie Run but his talent was recognised only after the release of Mirzapur and then again in Sacred Games. With his immaculate acting skills in these series, he was highly accoladed for working with OTT platforms than in Bollywood.

    2. Nawazuddin Siddiqui © Netflix
Sacred Games changed Nawazuddin Siddiqui's career completely. His role as Mumbai's don called Ganesh Gaitonde became a massive hit and people started recognising him after he delivered a masterpiece. After Sacred Games, Nawazuddin continued to stun the audience with more projects including Raat Akeli Hai and Serious Men.

    3. Sobhita Dhulipala © Amazon Prime Video
After several rejections and doing small roles, Sobhita Dhulipala landed on a huge project that changed her career 360 degrees. After her stint in Zoya Akhtar's Made In Heaven, Sobhita truly became an overnight sensation. While season 1 was a huge hit, the audience is now waiting for the release of its 2nd season.

    4. Jaideep Ahlawat © Amazon Prime Video
Jaideep Ahlawat gave several performances but didn't receive enough credit for his acting skills. But, Anushka Sharma Production company made Paatal Lok was a huge career shift for Jaideep. After this web series, he proved his acting prowess recently in Ajeeb Dastans.

    5. Manoj Bajpayee © Amazon Prime Video
Manoj Bajpayee is one of the finest actors but his talent was recognised more on OTT platforms than in Bollywood. His role in The Family Man, as an intelligence officer, showed that Manoj is truly a deserving actor. The second season of the series is slated to release in 2021.

    6. Radhika Apte © Netflix
Radhika Apte may have started her career being a part of several Marathi, Hindi or English movies. But, she is now called the queen of OTT. Several series on digital platforms made Radhika a part of their script and the actress hit each role out of the park with her impeccable acting skills. Think Lust Stories, Sacred Games, Raat Akeli Hai, all of which showed that she is a self-made actress.

    7. Divyendu Sharma © Amazon Prime Video
We all remember him as Liquid from Pyaar Ka Punchnama but it still wasn't a huge hit for the actor. He then had Toilet: Ek Prem Katha as well. But, when he played the role of Munna Bhaiya in Mirzapur, he allured the audience with his dark yet loveable character. Viewers couldn't help but praise him for his performance.
