There would hardly be any kid who hasn’t been punished by teachers in school. Be it for talking in the class, eating lunch in the first period, forgetting homework or cheating in a class test, we have all been punished to learn discipline and decorum as kids.

It’s a part of school life. However, some school teachers go overboard with the punishment without realising the outcome of it and how it affects the child. Case in point, this principal of a private school in UP’s Mirzapur who manhandled a student in a punishment that could be fatal.

He dangled the kid studying in Class II from the first floor of the school building while the other kids watched. He punished the 5-year-old for being mischievous and held him upside down for 10 minutes until he begged for forgiveness.

The photo of the gruesome act went viral on social media, post which the principal was arrested.
People compared it to the action crime series Mirzapur based on UP’s Mirzapur where this unfortunate incident took place. A user wrote, “Is everyone stuck in a day job while daydreaming of becoming Kaleen Bhaia in #Mirzapur, or is this special?”. Another wrote, “Mirzapur: The name is enough,” while some said it isn’t surprising since it happened in the glorious state of Uttar Pradesh.

Another video was uploaded on Twitter which shows the principal has no regret for punishing the kid that way and claims this is what parents and guardians want to discipline the kids.
Yes, of course I hung a class 2 student upside down from the balcony. This is part of education at my schoolpic.twitter.com/Ml2egKpms3

The incident came to notice because of the photo that got viral but so many other incidents like these go unnoticed and unreported, especially in schools in small cities and towns. Some teachers are coming up with new and positive ways to punish students but it seems like the modern methods of teaching are yet to reach the rural schools.

It is terrifying to think what the five-year-old kid must have gone through the entire time he was held upside down crying and begging his teacher to let him go.
