In a historic feat for Indian as well as Tamil Cinema, actor Suriya's Tamil film Jai Bhim, which was recently released on OTT giant Amazon Prime Video, became the highest-rated movie on IMDb. Unbelievable, right? Well, believe it, friend.

The movie received a combined IMDb rating of 9.6/10 on its way to going atop the list that included The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, and The Dark Knight.

As a result, The Shawshank Redemption, considered to be one of the finest films to ever be made, dropped to the second spot with a worldwide rating of 9.3/10. In third place was The Godfather, the cinematic masterpiece based on the best-selling Mario Puzo novel by the same name, with a score of 9.2/10.

It was followed by Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, which secured fourth place with a score of 9.0/10.

Jai Bhim, which is directed by TJ Gnanavel is based on a true event that showcases caste discrimination as well as an honest portrayal of police brutality. The legal drama film, which sees Suriya play the role of a lawyer, is based on the 1993 Cuddalore Incident where Rajakannu, a member of the Kurumbar tribal community was falsely accused of theft, to be later imprisoned, and then tortured by the Police officials.

Rajakannu then succumbed to his injuries following which the police covered up the incident. With Rajakannu's wife still fighting for justice, Chandru, who was a lawyer at the time, fought and won her case in a landmark judgment, something that is remembered by many.

The movie about the same incident has been garnering rave reviews with Suriya's performances also being lauded by critics and viewers. Originally shot in the Tamil language, the movie has been dubbed in multiple languages so that there is certainly no language barrier in terms of people watching the film.
