‘Male Version Of Kangana, Kuch Sharam Karo’: Vir Das Bashed For ‘Two Indias’ Monologue

Comedian Vir Das has landed in trouble after he delivered a monologue as part of his recent performance at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC., with many on social media calling him out for "insulting India". He uploaded a video on Instagram, titled ‘I Come From Two Indias’.

In the nearly seven-minute-long video, Vir Das is heard talking about the duality of the country. He mentions topical issues India is grappling with including the battle against COVID-19. Vir talks about how Bollywood divides the nation on Twitter and ironically unites the audience in the theatres. He mentions how women are worshipped in the day and gang-raped at night. Vir is heard talking about the crackdown against comedians, lack of information about the PM CARES fund and does not forget to mention the farmers' protests. He also mentions that some might find it a gigantic joke but it’s not.

He also shared a clarification note but that also didn’t go down well with people. He wrote, “The video is a satire about the duality of two very separate India's that do different things. Like any nation has light and dark, good and evil within it. None of this is a secret. The video appeals for us to never forget that we are great. To never stop focusing on what makes us great.

"It ends in a gigantic patriotic round of applause for a country we all love, believe in and are proud of. That there is more to our country than the headlines, a deep beauty. That's the point of the video and the reason for the applause," his statement read.

Ironically, Vir's statement on how there are two sections of people in India was reflected in how people reacted to his video too. Obviously, there were people who attacked him and brutally trolled him. People called him a traitor and that he had no right to insult the country. Some even called him a male version of Kangana Ranaut.

And then, there were people who supported his ideology and saluted him for speaking the harsh truth.
