Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had an interaction with the members of civil society in Mumbai.
The meetup was also attended by celebs like Swara Bhasker, Mahesh Bhatt, Richa Chadha, Kubbra Sait and Munawar Faruqui among others.
A clip from the event has been making the rounds of social media where Swara Bhasker is speaking her mind about the current situation in the country.
In the clip, Swara can be seen introducing Munawar Faruqui, Richa Chadha, Agrima Joshua, Kubbra Sait, Aditi Mittal and says how a lot of these artists “today are facing a lot of resistance to telling stories. There are many who have risked their livelihood and careers to keep the resistance alive.”
She added, “People ask, ‘Why there is no Meryl Streep in India?’, ‘There is no Meryl Streep in India because Meryl Streep could stand in front of the President-elect of a country and critique him in the harshest way and not a hair on her head was harmed.’ We are all unemployable today.”
She also talked about UAPA and the sedition law and accused the government of India of using it indiscriminately.
Responding to Swara Bhasker’s argument, Mamata Banerjee later asked her, “Why don’t you join politics? You’re a tough and strong lady.”

.@ReallySwara shared some really interesting insights about the present situation of our country. As a nation, we must stay united in our fight against all fascist forces!

The actress later told Print that it was “gracious of her (Mamata) to compliment me. My question to her was about the misuse of draconian laws, especially the UAPA, and I was glad to hear her assure everyone that she will not stand for the misuse of that law.”
Soon enough, people came at her for the accusation against the government:
Someone should educate Swara on how many people have been booked in WB on flimsy charges by same person @MamataOfficial , who she thinks is statue of Liberty. How many BJP workers were killed . How many women were raped by her goons.

— Indian Patriot (@sanjayshah4345) December 2, 2021Twitter, it seems, is divided over Swara’s speech. While a few have been applauding her, there are others who are trolling the actress.
One user wrote, “Thank you @ReallySwara for always taking stand & raising your voice for people. More and more power to you!”
Mocking her comment about being unemployable, another tweeted, “Swara Bhaskar says she's unemployable today and blames Modi for it. Has she considered her remarkable lack of talent to be the cause of her situation?”
