The last few days have been pretty eventful for Indian cricket. So much has happened in the last one week that it’s hard to recall everything, no matter how hard we try. But that doesn’t mean we won’t try.

Less than a month after being given the T20 captaincy, opener Rohit Sharma was made the new commander of the 50-over squad on Thursday night. The most surprising part was the manner in which such a big announcement was made.

The BCCI informed about its decision while announcing the Test squad for the South Africa tour in just one line, which many missed at first glance. No press conference, no media statement, nothing.

The next day, the reports emerged suggesting that Virat Kohli was given a 48-hour ultimatum to quit ODI captaincy but he ignored it, which led to his forceful eviction in a rather unceremonious manner.

Then Rohit was ruled out of the Test series after pulling up his hamstring while Kohli opted out of the ODI series due to personal reasons, giving air to the rift rumours between them.

Hearing about the reports of rifts between two stars of Indian cricket, it’s hard to believe that this is the same team that used to harp about the positive dressing room atmosphere and the camaraderie within the unit.

If that wasn’t all, the fans of the Indian cricket team now have something new to worry about. According to a report published in Dainik Jagran, star all-rounder is mulling hanging up his boots in the longest format of the game in order to prolong his white-ball career.

The bowling all-rounder missed the second Test against New Zealand after injuring his right forearm during the Kanpur Test and was expected to be back in the squad for the all-important Test series against the Proteas.

However, while announcing the squad it revealed that the all-rounder was not available for selection as was yet to fully recover from his knee injury. The extent of his injury was not known but if reports are to be believed, it is “very serious” in nature and might even require him to go under the knife which would rule him out for anywhere between four to six months.

Quoting one of Jadeja’s teammates, the same report has claimed that the bowling all-rounder might call time on his red-ball career to extend his limited-overs career.

Jadeja is among one of the fittest cricketers in world cricket and that’s why people couldn’t believe that he was carrying such a serious injury all this while. The Indian fans who have seen plenty of drama in the last few days weren’t ready for any more setbacks.

Barring injuries and occasional rests, the Saurashtra all-rounder had been a regular feature in the Indian team across all three formats in the last couple of years people couldn’t imagine a Playing XI without him.

If this is true and Jadeja is indeed contemplating Test retirement then it would be a sad day for Indian cricket.
