SS Rajamouli's RRR, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles, was all set to hit the theaters on January 7. However, the makers have postponed the film's release due to the rise in Omicron cases. This news came as a shock for fans who were looking forward to seeing the period action drama on the big screen. While the makers are yet to announce a new date, the movie has now landed in legal trouble. 

According to reports, a Public Interest Petition (PIL) has been filed against RRR by a student in the Telangana High Court seeking to restrain the producer from releasing the film and to not issue a Censor Certificate.

While Rajamouli and the team have always maintained that it is a fictional story of two freedom fighters named Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan), the PIL reportedly alleges that the makers have intentionally distorted history related to the legendary freedom fighters to hurt the sentiments of their followers. 

According to a Mirchi9 report, the PIL filed against RRR came before the bench of Justice Venkateswara Reddy and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan. Since it is a PIL, Bhuyan shared that the CJ bench would hear the case.

However, the makers of the much-hyped film are yet to react to the controversy.
