The beauty of belonging to such a big country is that India has managed to produce some experts in every field that exists in the world. Be it actors, sports players, mathematicians, scientists, you name a field and you will find an Indian on that list.
Since Bollywood is one of the biggest industries in the world, it is natural that the lure to try your hand in the field is strong. Besides the usual list of actors we spot, we have, time and again, seen a singer or a sports personality dabble in acting and just try their luck or show their talent.
While some personalities like Dara Singh have proved that one can excel at playing sports and a character, some of our sports heroes have unfortunately not been able to mirror that professional success in Bollywood. Here are 5 sportsmen who tried acting but failed:
1. Vijender SinghOur star boxer and an Olympics bronze medal winner became a big hit as a youth icon after he not only inspired an entire generation, but also became a poster boy of success. Naturally when it was announced that he was making a debut with Fugly, fans had hope. The thriller couldnβt add thrills to his acting and hence he moved back to being in the ring.
2. Leander PaesOne of the biggest names in World Tennis, Leander surprised fans when he starred in socio-political thriller Rajdhani Express, which was a total dud. It was a complete miss and a commercial disaster for a man who was an established Tennis icon.
3. Sandeep PatilOne of the shining stars of the 83β squad and former Kenya national team coach once decided to take a break from the sports world and tried his luck with Kabhie Ajnabi The. The movie released in 1985 and was a box-office dud.
4. Ajay JadejaBack in the 90s and early 2000s , cricketer Ajay Jadeja managed to stay in the news for numerous reasons. He was known for his game, then the rumoured love story between him and Madhuri DixitΒ did the rounds for a while, and post the unfortunate match-fixing disaster, he tried his skills at acting with Khel, which starred Celina Jaitley and Sunny Deol as well. The movie was a flop show.
5. Vinod KambliAnother star player whose stars didnβt align for him at all when his performance was under-appreciated in the box-office disaster Annarth.
