South star Dhanush, who was most recently seen in Aanand L Rai's Atrangi Re opposite Sara Ali Khan, has shocked fans by announcing separation from wife Aishwaryaa on Monday. The actor exchanged wedding vows with Aishwaryaa, Rajinikanth's eldest daughter, in 2004. After 18 years of togetherness, the duo has now decided to part ways.

Taking to social media, the estranged couple issued an identical statement and shared the shocking news with fans without revealing the reason behind their split. In the statement, both Dhanush and Aishwaryaa, who are parents to two sons, shared that they want to 'take time to understand' themselves as individuals. 

The statement posted by Dhanush on Twitter reads, "18 years of togetherness as friends, couple as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better".

He added, "Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this. Om Namashivaaya!"

Aishwaryaa too shared a similar statement on Instagram. In the caption, she wrote, "No caption needed…only your understanding n your love necessary!"

This announcement has left fans heartbroken who are extending support to the duo as well as Rajinikanth. On Dhanush's post, a user wrote, "This hurts me more than my breakup". Another wrote, "That's unexpected and shocking! The reasons behind the breakup are none of our business. Just wishing you and Aishwarya all the best for the future! Be strong Thalaivaa @rajinikanth".

Well, the news has shocked everyone as Aishwaryaa had dedicated a post to Dhanush just a few months ago on Instagram after the prestigious National Awards ceremony was held in Delhi. Post the ceremony, she posted a picture of her father Rajinikanth and Dhanush posing together with their medals. In the caption, she had written, "They are mine". For the unversed, Thalaivar got the Dadasaheb Phalke Award while Dhanush got the Best Actor award for Asuran.

After getting married in 2004, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa became parents after their son Yatra's birth in 2006. Later, in 2010, they welcomed their second son Linga.
