Filmmaker Aashiq Abu is returning to filmmaking after three years with Naradan starring Tovino Thomas and Anna Ben.
Recently, while promoting the political thriller, which also criticises the kind of yellow journalism in today’s day and age, Aashiq and Tovino were asked by Bollywood Hungama to comment on how media covered the Aryan Khan’s drugs case and now that it has been reported that NCB’s SIT didn’t find anything on Shah Rukh Khan’s son and there is no proof that he was involved.
Aashiq replied, “It was staged, it was planned.”
Tovino then added, “I think that was the purpose and intention (to tarnish Shah Rukh Khan’s image). From whatever we know now it was to harm Shah Rukh Khan’s reputation, his son’s reputation. I mean it looks like that. I am not stating it but it looks like that.”
Aashiq added, “That was the political intention, I believe.”
The filmmaker continued, “See, it’s Aryan Khan so we know that. But back in Kerala also there are a lot of cases like this. They (media) don’t even care about giving a correction or saying they are sorry.”
Anna Ben then chipped in saying, “The worst part is that even if something is proven that it didn’t happen, that is not sensationalised. Nobody talks about that.”
“And people believe that there was some kind of manipulation that’s why he is cleared now. People tend to think that. They like to think that way,” added Thomas.
When pointed out by the journalist that oftentimes it is the media that sets such narratives. Aashiq added, “It is very dangerous.”
