'Time For Litmus Test' Ex-India Player Says KL Rahul 'Can't Hide Behind Excuses' At LSG

KL Rahul shifted base from Punjab Kings to Lucknow Super Giants for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The 29-year-old led the Punjab-based franchise for two years and even won the Orange Cap in one season but failed to take his side to the title.

During his time with the Punjab-based franchise, KL Rahul scored over 600 runs in both seasons but the pace at which he got those runs became a huge talking point.

So proud of the way the boys played tonight Happy to see the Orange Cap & the purple cap in the @lionsdenkxip Congrats @klrahul11 4 leading from the front & for the unbeaten 132. I’m leaving Dubai with the biggest smile on my face #Shammi #KXIPvsRCB #PzIpldiaries pic.twitter.com/7YeDEvKeOP

The former Punjab Kings captain was criticised for playing slow knocks and getting the team in trouble even during easy run chases.

Rahul was named captain of Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the upcoming season and he will go out in the middle with a point to prove.

KL Rahul has to be the most fraud orange cap holder in IPL history. Actually lost Punjab almost half of their games bc of his super slow batting.

The 29-year-old batter got a chance to lead the Indian team in a Test match and three ODIs but the team lost all four matches. Former India opening batter Aakash Chopra feels KL Rahul should prove to the world what he can do as a captain.

Chopra also added that while playing for Punjab Kings, the team required him to bat in a particular manner and that is why he did not score freely but now in a new season, there will be no excuses left for him to hide behind if he fails to up his strike-rate.

"Rahul has a clean slate like Hardik Pandya. But Rahul's big challenge will be that he was playing slow for Punjab Kings because the team was like that. Now the team would have been picked after asking you. Tell how good a captain you are because you don't have an excuse now, there is no story now," Aakash Chorpa said in his YouTube channel.

Chopra further mentioned that the presence of two great cricketing minds in Andy Flower and Gautam Gambhir will help him improve his game plan.

"Now play freely. This is now or never, do or die. This is what matters, Gautam Gambhir and Andy Flower will be there, two good brains. You are a good captain, you are a phenomenal player, get the best out of yourself," Chopra concluded.
