'Asked Driver To Stop Bus And...': Ex-RR Player Recalls How Warne 'Punished' Jadeja & Yusuf

Shane Warne passed away earlier this month (March 4) due to a suspected heart attack while on vacation in Thailand. The former Australian spinner broke many records on the field in international cricket and he is the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 708 wickets. The spin wizard is only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan who has 800 Test wickets next to his name.

While Warne was a match-winner in international cricket, he tasted success in his first stint as captain of a franchise. In 2008, Warne led Rajasthan Royals to glory in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Warne did not have any big names like other franchises in his first stint with Rajasthan Royals but he turned youngsters like Ravindra Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan into match winners.

Recently, former members of RR's IPL-winning squad paid their tributes to the legendary bowler and shared some interesting anecdotes.

Recalling an incident, Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal revealed how captain Warne 'punished' tardy Ravindra Jadeja and Yusuf Pathan for arriving late at the team bus.

"Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja arrived a bit late for the team bus. He (Warne) didn't say anything (at that time). Even I was a bit late, he didn't say anything to me because I joined the team a little late," the Pakistan keeper said on 'Tribute to Shane Warne IPL Documentary'.

Akmal further added that after the practice, Warne asked the driver to stop the bus and asked both players to walk back to the team hotel.

"So, we were done with practice and we left the stadium. When we were returning, he asked the driver to stop the bus. Then he turned towards the two and said 'come on foot'," Akmal added.

Whenever Ravindra Jadeja's skill sets were questioned he upped his game, be it proving he does not need turners to win matches to showing he can bat against the best in seaming conditions.#RavindraJadeja

Warne lived his life king size off the field but whenever he stepped foot on the field, he went about his business professionally and his records speaks volumes about his professionalism and passion towards the game.

It was Warne who first spotted the potential in Jadeja and labelled him as 'rockstar'. The all-rounder repaid Warne's faith as he is currently the number one all-rounder in Test cricket.
