The Last LaFerrari Aperta Gets Auctioned For Way More Than We Could Ever Afford

Ferrari keeps making the news for being auctioned off at offensive amounts and they seem to have become experts at this with the LaFerraris. Recently, a 2013 prototype LaFerrari was auctioned for a whopping $2.6 million, by RM Sotheby's, and it was sold off with written consent from the buyer that it mustn't be driven. Almost immediately after that, there was newsflash that on the occasion of their 70th anniversary, Ferrari put up the last LaFerrari Aperta 2017 for auction and it was bought for an insane $10 million. What's more, the hyper car is still in its production phase and wasn't even seen by the buyer before purchase.

This LaFerrari Aperta is now, possibly, "the most valuable 21st century automobile ever sold at auction", a title that may have been handed over to it by its predecessor, LaFerrari - an individual model of which was auctioned for $7 million at a charity in December 2016. The proceeds from this sale are to be donated to an international youth education organisation that works in parts of Africa and Asia.

Let's go over the specs one time ever-so fondly, since the model will no longer serve race tracks or roads after the last one leaves the production facility. The LaFerrari Aperta spider (convertible) is the final hypercar (hybrid) that the automakers will have produced. It's what they like to call a culmination of their 70 years of automobile design and engineering, a "masterpiece".

The roadster is powered by the same 6.3 litre V12 engine as the original LaFerrari and a 120 kW electric motor powertrain, that combine to give the vehicle a torque of 900Nm and a top speed of 350 kmph. Confused that there is no power upgrade from the original variant? The most significant performance altering difference between the original and the Aperta is the open top in the latter. The Aperta is so aerodynamically designed and efficiently engineered that it can mirror the performance of the LaFerrari, even with an open top, cutting through the wind like an aircraft. It can go from 0-100kmph in just three seconds.

The Aperta sold at auction is to receive a metallic red paint job with dual white stripes running through the centre of the vehicle, from front to back.
