Here Is The Evidence That Facebook Are Secretly Building Their Own Voice Assistant

It was not long ago when Facebook abandoned one of its main experiments after two artificially intelligent programs appeared to be chatting to each other. And you know what the strangest part was? They were chatting in a language that only they understood. ‘The Matrix' is for real, guys!

Facebook's one failed attempt at AI did not mean that Mark will completely withdraw from the game. Facebook and AI are trending again. It appears that Facebook is quietly building its own voice assistant to compete with Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. And why not? It is one of the biggest tech giants in the industry.

So, a code from a past version of Facebook's mobile app was recently uncovered by the developer Blake Tsuaki. He then shared his findings with Business Insider.

As per Tsuaki, the voice assistant was first spotted in a September version of Facebook's mobile app. He said, "It's non-functional right now (listens and then errors out), but I'm finding a way to get it to do a bit more."

This knowledge was first shared by The Next Web's Matt Navarra on Twitter last week. It looks like it is an unreleased voice assistant capable of making suggestions and finding basic information like the score of a sports game. You can say it  is in it's pretty nascent stage.

Although a Facebook spokesperson revealed that the voice assistant was not an active feature or user-facing test in the company's app. If you haven't noticed, Facebook often tests new features it's working on with a small percentage of users before making them more widely available.

Also a while back, Facebook Messenger chief David Marcus told Variety , "We are not working on that actively right now." It is how when company signaled earlier this year that it wasn't working on a voice assistant.

But would you mind having Facebook's own voice assistant helping you with stuff? Rumour has it that Facebook is, in fact, working on a voice assistant within Building 8. Now, this Building 8 is a mysterious consumer hardware division that was just recently formed. This assistant might be powering the company's upcoming video chat device for the home. It has been codenamed 'Aloha'.

Aloha is scheduled to make its official debut in May 2018. The product is to compete with the Amazon Echo Show, which was released in June.

Facebook has already grown by leaps and bounds since its inception and now Mark is showing signs of being a polymath entrepreneur as well. And, after Siri, Cortana, and Alexa let's hear it from Facebook. So, it looks like we're heading into the future with nothing to hold us back!

Also, if you can remember Elon Musk's recently raised a decent amount of funding for his startup, Neuralink, though, which he officially denied. At Neuralink his team is developing a brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers. It's his take on  preparing humans against the threat Artificial Intelligence (AI) may pose in the future which now can no longer be ignored. He is a futurist and we need to listen to him too and not just voice assistants alone.
