While the demonetisation drive is driving the country up the wall and we are still struggling to find solace with the decision, here is a piece of news that is receiving major flak from all Indians. As you are reading this, our government is investing a whopping 3600 crore into the construction of a Shivaji statue in Mumbai, the foundation stone of which is being laid by our own PM, Narendra Modi.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a torchbearer of courage, bravery & good governance. #ShivSmarak is a fitting tribute to him & his greatness.
— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) December 24, 2016I am honoured to be getting the opportunity to perform the Bhoomipujan of #ShivSmarak.

The statue will stand tall at 192 feet, and will be twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty and will be built on 16 hectares of land right in the Arabian Sea. However, the issue is not the fact that it is a memorial for the great Maratha ruler. He deserves every ounce of respect from the nation.

Let me throw light on exactly what is happening here. Environmentalists have pointed out the fact that the construction will adversely affect marine life and the ecology in and around the area. Secondly, you need to remember the fact that this crazy sum is the taxpayer’s money! How about spending it on infrastructure, education, uplifting our rural sector above all, helping the ones who are dying post the demonetisation drive? The government is earning major backlash because of the divided opinions of the public.
What can you build instead of a giant Shivaji statue?
Better healthcare facilities at stations.
Toilets for the city.
Safer roads.
I'm a big Shivaji Maharaj fan, studied his rule in-depth! A 3600 Cr. statue is a crime in the name of a true people's king! #StopTheStatue

Most romantic = Eiffel Tower
Symbol of Freedom = Statue of Liberty
But
Statue of Shivaji- waste of money.
Do you think the benevolent king would have liked a statue of himself in the sea, or would he have been happier with his people living a better and safer life?
