Apple Plans To Work On Noise Cancelling AirPods And It May Just Be The Upgrade It Needs

The next generation of AirPods is currently under development at Cupertino and it may feature an upgrade that is common in high-end wireless earbuds. A recent report by analysts from Barclays claims that Apple is looking to include noise-cancelling capabilities and water resistance to the wireless earbuds.

It was previously reported by Bloomberg that a new version of the AirPods will also feature hands-free Siri integration as users will be able to launch the voice assistant by simply calling out “Hey Siri”. Apple's AirPods uses a custom chip on Apple's devices for faster and better Bluetooth connectivity.

The original AirPods were announced in 2016 alongside the iPhone 7 and has been deemed successful in terms of sales. The wireless earbuds were launched in lieu of Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack to make room for other components. Analysts estimate that at least 85 percent of the global wireless headphones market sales is accounted for AirPods and the numbers are expected to grow in the coming future.

Apple announced a new charging case for the AirPods during the launch of iPhone X and is capable of charging the wireless earbuds wirelessly. More information should be available once Apple officially launched its own wireless charging solution i.e. AirPower. Apple is also rumoured to be working on a premium wireless earbuds which would have over-the-ear design and would have high-grade audio drivers for better audio quality. It would be interesting to see how Apple would perform in the premium earphone space and we expect to know more about it later this year.
