An UK College Is Offering A Hinglish Course & We Can't Help But Think How The Tables Have Turned


Right from our childhood, we are told that English is a prerequisite for anyone and everyone who wants to succeed or basically achieve anything in life. And those who don't know the language are unfortunately ridiculed.Β 

The fact that English is one of the most spoken languages in the world just goes on to establish the dominance it has.Β

But you know us Indians; we have the ability to transform everything as per our tastes and term it as a 'jugaad'. And there's no debate over the fact that the 'Hinglish' language is one of our most successful jugaads. In fact, it is so successful that it now taking over the world starting with a college in UK.Β

Portsmouth College is offering its students a course in the hybrid language of 'Hinglish'.

The course was first introduced in 2017 as a part of a pilot project. But thanks to the crazy response that the students gave, they are going to offer a longer duration course starting from September this year.

The curriculum will be designed keeping in mind the growing importance of the language not just in India but across the world in terms of economy, business operations, literature and even films.Β

According to The Tribune, 18 students attended the Hinglish sessions on a regular basis earlier and they will now be helping the faculty to develop the course further. It will then become a regular feature from the 2018-19 academic year as part of the Modern Business Language & Culture programme.

Honestly, it makes us laugh and feel proud at the same time. After years of us trying to adapt to everything that's western, seeing our native language taking over the world in this way is definitely something we didn't expect. But people's massive interest in learning about India, its culture through a language is definitely heart warming.Β
