  3. Whenever a new IPL season starts, all eyes are on the players who went for big big bucks in the auction. Ahead of IPL 2022, there were several players, both capped and uncapped, who caused a bidding war among franchises in the auction and made them pay exorbitant amounts to include them on their roster. Like most teams, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) had also made some exciting signings in the mega auction. That’s why when these two former champions faced each other in their opening match, their fans were obviously excited to see these new signings doing justice to their price tag. View this post on Instagram However, only some of them were able to fulfill the fans’ expectations and the majority of them belonged to the Rajasthan-based outfit which helped them start their IPL 2022 campaign with a massive 61-run win over their Southern rivals at the MCA stadium in Pune. Chasing a massive total, the SRH batting unit crumbled like a pack of cards, with two of their top four batters folding for a duck and two others managing a single-digit score. View this post on Instagram Most of the SRH batters cut a sorry figure but according to fans the biggest disappointment was the West Indies white-ball skipper vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, who got out for a nine-ball duck. Overall, it was his sixth duck in 34 IPL innings. Barring a few odd occasions, Pooran’s IPL record has been far from satisfactory but still the SRH management splashed a whopping Rs 10.75 crore on him in the auction last month. View this post on Instagram At the time, the decision had left everyone surprised but his dismissal last night provided the fans with an opportunity to go after him and the franchise and they did so in the most hilarious manner possible. In the last 14 IPL innings, Pooran has managed double-digit scores only twice and the fans turned his misery into a meme fest on the micro-blogging site. The kind of money SRH have paid for the West Indies power-hitter, his place in the squad is all but guaranteed. For the sake of the tournament’s excitement, we hope that Pooran finds his rhythm and starts playing to his potential in the upcoming matches. View the full article

  5. Legends are made of different stuff. It’s an old saying but it is so true. No matter how hard life or any individual, for that matter, tries to pull them down, these people never crumble and always find a way to turn their adversity into an opportunity. Their ability to face all the problems front on and come out on the top is what makes them special, and prepares them for greatness. View this post on Instagram The cricket fraternity around the world is currently mourning the loss of one such legend – Shane Warne, arguably the greatest spinner to have graced this game. His untimely demise left billions of fans shell-shocked and it’s been over a couple of days but people are still coming to terms with this tragic loss. RIP Shane Warne (1969-2022) pic.twitter.com/WMmknYmuGa — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) March 5, 2022 His heroics on the field earned Warney fans all over the world and all those people who admired the champion bowler are paying him tributes in their own way. The global cricketing community is poorer today with the passing away of Australian great Shane Warne. The BCCI mourns the loss of the champion cricketer who enriched the game with his craft. pic.twitter.com/ZXiRUTr5eJ — BCCI (@BCCI) March 4, 2022 On Tuesday, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin posted a video on his YouTube channel and shared an interesting anecdote about the leg-spinner that not many people know about. Even Ashwin came to know of it after he passed away, while having a discussion with head coach Rahul Dravid. The Chennai-born, who recently became India’s second most successful bowler in Test cricket going past legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev, revealed how Warne turned a disaster into an opportunity. One of the greatest. RIP Shane Warne pic.twitter.com/5FkXp5PlpD — SPORTbible (@sportbible) March 4, 2022 The finger spinner said that Warne used to play a Rugby-like sport named ‘Aussies Rules Football’, despite not having the right physique to participate in the close-contact sport. Since Warne wasn’t that strong physically, the “tall and well-built” opponents used to bully him and he ended up with broken legs once. “I was talking to Rahul Dravid who was extremely sad. For a spinner, your shoulder and upper half of the body has to be extremely strong because you have to use many rotations to spin the ball. Because for a spinner to master your craft, you should keep bowling in the nets. More so, if you are a leg-spinner. He had strong shoulders and that was his massive advantage,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. “It seems Rahul Bhai asked him, 'How do you have such strong shoulders? What do you do?' It is such a unique story. There is a sport called 'Aussies Rules Football'. It is a sport like Rugby. It seems he wanted to play the sport but was not built for it since people who play it are tall and well-built blokes,” he added. © Reuters Ashwin further shared that his condition was so miserable that he couldn’t walk for three-four weeks but instead of getting disheartened he went about his business using his hands. And that is how he developed his strong muscles which gave him an advantage over his counterparts. “For 3-4 weeks he walked or rather floated using his bare hands and those made his shoulders strong and there was no looking back. That's what he has told Rahul Bhai. We all face obstacles in life, but look how Warne converted it as his success formula,” Ashwin added. Legbreaks. Flippers. Batters bamboozled. Fans awestruck. World Cup, Ashes, IPL wins. The wizard not only revived legspin, he became legspin. A bowling action imitated by the world over. Thanks for all the memories. The cricket world will miss you terribly, Shane Warne pic.twitter.com/LZcQGLgYx2 — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) March 4, 2022 This interesting incident tells us Warne was a different breed. He never got bogged down by difficulties and always found a way to excel. View the full article
  6. Speaking out of experience, social media has infinite potential and power to be tapped into. Anyone (and everyone at this point) is potentially just a click away from fame, and that has been made possible solely with the impact and kind of reach that social media has offered to the ‘common man’. Once reserved simply for stars and celebrities, stardom is now more attainable than ever. And proof of it is not just Instagram influencers who started with an idea, but also raw talent that people find scrolling on their feed in the wee hours of the night. View this post on Instagram The latest example of such fame is a Kerala girl who made her livelihood selling balloons, but caught the eye of a wedding photographer and had her life turned around, thanks to social media. Arjun Krishnan, who is a wedding photographer, was attending the Andalur Kavu festival in Kerala when he came across a girl selling balloons. Fascinated, he clicked a few pictures of the girl and happened to show it to her and her mother, both of whom looked pretty happy with his work. View this post on Instagram Soon after, Arjun shared those pictures on his social media and was surprised to receive an overwhelming response from people. Kisbu (the young girl) was not just lauded, she was suddenly everywhere. View this post on Instagram That’s when she was approached for a makeover and was styled by makeup artist Remya Prajul who started working on a complete makeover for the teenager. The process started at 4 am with a manicure, pedicure and a facial. View this post on Instagram It was followed by an entire low-down to Kisbu about how the shoot was going to proceed, and much to her surprise, it turned out extremely well. Dressed in a traditional kasavu saree with gold jewellery, pictures from the shoot speak for themselves. With thousands of likes and hundreds of comments, Kisbu is going viral on social media, and just like that, might have a shot at being more than a balloon-seller. View this post on Instagram This is also not the first time that something like this has transpired. Months ago, a girl became an overnight sensation after a video of her making rotis in a village, dressed in a suit, went viral. View the full article

  8. There are a lot of Bollywood actors who, with time, decide to switch gears and turn filmmakers. This has been happening in Hindi cinema since the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s when actors like Sunil Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Feroz Khan, Manoj Kumar and Dev Anand turned from being successful movie stars to hit filmmakers. However, not every great and acclaimed actor is lucky enough to taste success when they turn directors. While some decide to stay away from the Director's chair after delivering their first dud, others don’t give up and, eventually, taste success. Here’s a list of 5 acclaimed Bollywood actors who turned directors and delivered duds: 1. Sunny Deol © Vijayta Films Two times National Film Award-winning actor Sunny Deol was already a major star when he decided to take the reins of his troubled production Dillagi into his own hands. The title was changed from London to Dillagi, the lead actress was changed from Karisma Kapoor to Urmila Matondkar and the director was changed from Gurinder Chaddha to Sunny Deol. Dillagi was Sunny Deol’s debut as a director but unfortunately, the film failed to make a mark at the box office and was panned by the critics. According to Box Office India, made on a budget of Rs 14 crore, Dillagi could only collect Rs 10.50 crore. Sunny Deol went on to helm two more films - Ghayal Once Again (2016) and Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019) but is yet to find success as a director. 2. Anupam Kher © Pooja Entertainment National Film Award-winning actor Anupam Kher made his directorial debut with the 2002 film Om Jai Jagadish. Starring Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahima Chaudhary, Urmila Matondkar, Tara Sharma and Waheeda Rehman, Om Jai Jagadish was a remake of Rajesh Khanna’s 1969 hit Do Raaste. Made on a budget of Rs 13 crore, the film could make only Rs 6.15 crore and turned out to be a disaster, according to Box Office India. It was also panned by the film critics. Anupam Kher hasn’t directed a film since. 3. Naseeruddin Shah © CAT Films Based against the backdrop of 9/11, Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota marked three times National Film Award winner Naseeruddin Shah’s debut as a director. The film starred Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Jimmy Sheirgill, Paresh Rawal, Ratna Pathak Shah, Ayesha Takia and Suhasini Mulay. According to Box Office India, the film was a huge disaster as it could only collect Rs 1.23 crore on a budget of Rs 6.25 crore. Shah hasn’t directed a film since. 4. 9. Everyone’s favourite shark for various reasons, Ashneer Grover surprised us all after he resigned as founder and MD of BharatPe today. "I write this with a heavy heart as today I am being forced to bid adieu to a company of which I am a founder. I say with my head held high that today this company stands as a leader in the fintech world. Since the beginning of 2022, unfortunately, I’ve been embroiled in baseless and targeted attacks on me and my family by a few individuals who are ready not only to harm me and my reputation but also harm the reputation of the company, which ostensibly they are trying to protect,” his resignation letter reads. View this post on Instagram BharatPe has been a strong competition in the UPI space for portals like PayTM, PhonePe and GooglePay. The resignation comes in days after his wife Madhuri Jain Grover accused senior management of unprofessional behaviour and was let gone as head of controls herself.
