After China Bengaluru Gets Its First Vertical Garden To Fight Pollution andamp Add To The Citys Beauty

In times when cities and countries are at loggerheads with each other, in the list of places with worst air quality, China created a great example last month with the Asia’s first Vertical Forest. The vertical forest is said to generate 60kg oxygen every day. Now, while the world is going gaga over this brilliant concept, back home Bengaluru too has joined the bandwagon with a vertical garden that is a masterpiece of its own.

This concept is the brainchild of SayTrees, and so far nearly 3500 saplings of more than 10 species have been planted. This vertical garden is situated in one of the pillars of Hosur Road flyover, Bengaluru with an aim to bring out the picturesque qualities of the city while fighting with pollution simultaneously.

SayTrees plans to cover every pillar of this flyover that is stretched over 9 kms, with such creative work of art. Just like every other gem of an idea, this one too needs proper maintenance for efficiency and SayTrees has kept it in mind. An automated drip irrigation system will water the saplings every day and they will regularly look after those saplings. In fact, each side of the garden comes with a unique and separate design.

Further, according to the SayTrees, these vertical gardens will help reduce urban heat island effect and smog, clean outside air of pollutants and dust, act as a sound proofing barrier, create habitat for birds and insects, and insulates and cools the building envelope, and several other benefits.

The project is being supported by the Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited. We just hope that taking cue from Bengaluru’s example, other cities too especially the metropolitans start implementing similar initiatives to curb air pollution.
