Rahul Gandhi has been campaigning like a maniac in Karnataka and believe it or not, he seems to have a better understanding of the crowds attending his rallies than Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah, who has been caught in the Hindi-Kannada translation conundrum. This new found zeal to make a positive impact in an election that is bound to affect how the opposition performs in the general elections in 2019, is a refreshing outlook of Indian politics. This is good news for our democracy too and here we take a look at five improvements Rahul Gandhi made to one-up the BJP clout on social media and make an impact.
1. Speaking Freely And Communicating Better© BCCL
Public speaking has always been Rahul Gandhi's kryptonite. He's been grilled by the opposition for referring to notes while speaking in his rallies and drifting off point time and again. However, lately, he's been making pointed attacks at the government's inefficiency and taking up the issues of the common man ranging from the rise in fuel prices to the false claims by the government on electrification of rural India. This kind of communication really makes a difference and people tend to connect with politicians who raise their concerns to people sitting at the big table.
2. Making Use Of Social Media© BCCL
While the Congress party is still lagging behind BJP in terms of acing the social media game, Rahul Gandhi's personal twitter page is making headways by engaging with party workers and his twitter followers. Just a simple look at this twitter page goes on to show how much the Congress leader has opened up on social media and the positive impact of it all is now showing on how he is generally perceived in the mainstream media.
3. Connecting With The Workers And The Youth© BCCL
During the recent campaign in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi was seen cycling with people on ground and that is something which helps create a connection with the general public. This has been the trademark of his campaign this season and in the long-run, it will help the party when it comes to the general elections in 2019.
4. Not Bucking Down With Criticism And Counter-Attacking Effectively© BCCL
The Rahul Gandhi of 12 months back would have never pointed fingers at Narendra Modi directly but a lot has changed in the past one-year. For every 'dynasty party' attack on him and his family, Rahul now responds with equally venomous counter-attacks on Modi led BJP which promised a corruption-free bureaucracy. That the BJP is supporting the corruption accused Reddy brothers in Karnataka has really set up a great platform for Rahul to launch his counterattacks.
5. Accepting His Legacy© BCCL
Rahul is no longer bogged down with the 'Shehzada' rants. He has thoroughly accepted his fate and his legacy and is now seen embracing the Congress culture and morality that many believed was dying a slow death. It is because of this that he's more vocal about his roots and that is something which will serve him with great results especially in rural India where people still respect and remember Indira and Rajiv Gandhi.
